‘Just Wow’: Watch What Happens to TheBlaze’s Will Cain When He Tries to Explain Romney’s ‘Gift’ Comments on CNN

The Blaze’s Will Cain appeared on CNN with Don Lemon Sunday night, and was barely allowed to get a word in after saying that Mitt Romney was technically right in his post-election “gift” comments.

For those who haven’t been following, Romney has suggested that Barack Obama won the election by appealing to various constituencies with “gifts,” while his campaign focused on helping the country as a whole.

After Lemon played video of various Republicans denouncing Romney, Cain admitted that the remarks weren’t very β€œsportsmanlike,” but said they weren’t actually β€œinaccurate.”

“It wasn’t politically advantageous,” he explained, “but the Democratic Party has been crafting policies that have been tail—”

At that point, Cain was interrupted by a “chorus” of “wait, wait, wait…” and “what?” from host Don Lemon and CNN contributor LZ Granderson.

“Did you just say it wasn’t inaccurate Will?” Granderson asked.Β  “It wasn’t inaccurate, what are you talking about?” Lemon added with surprise.

After waiting for Lemon and Granderson to finish, moving only his eyes to indicate what he thought of the lengthy interruption, Cain continued: “First of all, I think your guys’ two reaction is outstanding, I mean it’s just amazing.Β  I was saying that I think his statement–”

“I think your lack of reaction’s amazing,” Granderson interjected.

Still smiling, Cain said “alright” before continuing:

“Yes his statement is accurate.Β  The Democratic Party has been crafting policies that are tailor-made for various constituencies, whether that breaks you up by gender, age, ethnicity… Absolutely those policies have been crafted to win over votes and win over every demographic–”

At that point, Lemon asked whether that isn’t the “point” of an election, before Cain noted that while it may be a winning political strategy, it certainly isn’t the best way to govern.

(Photo: Twitter/@willcain)

Lemon then seemed to contradict himself in back-to-back sentences.

“Governing means governing all of the people, no matter what demographic it is…” he lectured Cain.Β  “If someone is tailoring their message for one group or another, that’s what they should be doing.Β  That’s what a leader of the free world should be doing.”

Cain noted the contradiction, asking: “If you’re governing for everyone, then why would you craft policies that only apply to some people?”

Lemon and Granderson struggled to respond, Lemon saying that someone was “talking” in his ear, before Granderson tried to lay down the law.

“Will…Here’s the deal.Β  President Obama was not handing out gifts, alright.Β  He’s being a president.”

After discussing Romney’s previous “47%” remarks, Lemon said he “loves” Cain but can’t “believe” he would make such claims.

I can.Β  He’s cut from the same cloth, man!” Granderson contributed.

Cain said that, since they “know” him, they should consider listening to his explanation of the logic behind his assertion.Β  However, he had little more than a few seconds before Granderson and Lemon interrupted once again, saying things like “It makes sense to you,” and “Is this like the numbers and the polls [that] all made sense if you’re doing some fuzzy math?”

“It doesn’t make sense and it’s insulting.Β  Tough love,” Lemon concluded, allowing Granderson the last word before remarking, “Thank you guys.Β  Bye bye.”

Two out of three of these men are not intellectually capable of carrying on a civil conversation, if they don’t agree with the oppositiion.

There is only one reason for not letting your adversary speak while debating him. It’s is because you do not have the ability to argue your point intelligently.

Man, how ridiculous was that? It was two against one. And I thought the comments and logic on YouTube was where the real stupid, non-thinking, illogical fools were, but I guess they are also on CNN. Don Lemon is too stupid and racist to even realize what an ignorant statement he made. And he thinks Cain’s statement was biased?

Wow, I think a collective hypnosis has happened to the democrat, liberal tools that helped Obama get elected. Nothing has to make sense at all anymore to them. They can just be as dumb as they want and say anything they want and conservatives are supped to take their lack of logic and believe it.

My god man, of course democrats have pandered to special interests for decades. They’ve built a network of dependents that will vote for them no matter what and Don Lemon and his rasta buddy are too blind by their racism and love for Daddy Obama to even have a coherent thought. Sad, pretty frickin sad.

you cannot argue with the left. they simply refuse to see an alternate view. they don’t use logic or reason, they react to their “feelings”. an alternate view negates their feelings so its automatically invalid. this is the reason for the furvor of obama voters. he makes them “feel” empowered. he validates their feelings that things are not “fair”. whereas we, have taught our children that the world is not fair and you should accept this and learn to live with it. the left are locked into childhood and refuse to face reality. its to hard. hence, the almost total denial of the facts.

I once tried having an argument over friends about why anyone would vote for Obama, lets just say I barely got a word in before they all spouted the same rehashed excuses and ended the argument before I could get 2 replies out. I don’t like that it’s so obvious CNN doesn’t want to entertain Cain’s ideas, and would rather dogpile and nitpick. Thing is, they were actually a little bit right to call Cain (and Romney) on this. It’s a stupid formulation, and Cain’s talking past them because they’re so stuck on the insult part (implying that Obama’s not an honest person, and has to bribe people to vote for him) that they can’t see he’s talking on a more structural plane.
Talking about gifts to special interest groups only makes sense to people who already understand. It’s much more powerful to explain that there are two separate visions, one of which will offer pleasing promises to take care of your group immediately, but will take away liberty while doing so; the other will give you the liberty to solve the problems on your own over time. The latter position is Romney’s and Cain’s. It’s not about pandering at all, but about freedom. And Conservatives simply have a harder and harder case to make the more people depend on govt for their support.
Putting it that way doesn’t insult the President, or his voters. It also doesn’t come off as sore loserism.

@Thomas – my buddy in crime

Romney was giving us better gifts than Obama:

      1) Tax breaks for companies outsourcing jobs
      2) Farm subsidy and corporate welfare
      3) Loopholes for corporations – pay zilch in taxes!!
      4) Tax β€œGifts” for Romney and his other PE/Hedge fund friends – effective tax rate less than 10%
      5) Private Equity Earnings taxed as β€œCarried Interest”.
      6) Tax breaks for Oil and Gas companies.
      7) Bailouts for Wall-Street
      … (many more)

Stupid Asians & Jews voted (70+%) for Obama when Romney was offering all these gifts to them.

Lemon and Granderson are good examples of group think. When challenged, they revert to silly rhetoric which is tailor made for the very lowest common denominator demographic they are talking about.

To be fair, Fox does this as well. At least the opinion guys, Hannity, Bill O etc. Although, they certainly don’t take rides out into left field very often like Lemon and Co. does.

A little secret that Hannity, Limbaugh, and others figured out long ago…liberals make up the largest share of their audiences. They love to yell at the TV. Basic psychology.

I am not envious but want them to play their “fair” share. In some sense they are a bit responsible for this huge deficit we have. Paying zilch in corporate taxes, PE/Hedge funds paying 10% tax rate by using tax loopholes, creating tax havens in Switzerland and Cayman Islands have hurt our revenue. We have the lowest percentage revenue to GDP since 1950s. With they paying their “fair” share and Obama cutting (3 times more) in spending we will finally be able to take care of of our deficits.

Somebody should tell that to Bill O’Reilly, who has a bad habit of simply speaking over anyone who disagrees with him. It’s the same rate (39%) before this temporary tax rate cut was enacted. BTW the real effective rate paid (after all the deductions) is normally much lower. Election have consequences. This President and all past president along with congress had this authority to enact and sign tax laws.

We had a 23 million jobs created in the previous Democratic government when the top tax rate was 39%. This rate increase plus 3 times more in spending cuts will bring the deficit down.

VanceUppercut, I’ve watched Bill off and on for about 5 years. I can confidently tell you why he HAS to speak over people.

What people in power do, who feel they are in the hot seat, is run out the clock. You are only allotted 8-9 minutes of air time per session to discuss, and if the politician or reporter uses that time to drone on and on, run out the clock or use the opportunity to grandstand his insane views, then of COURSE the moderator (Bill) must step in and get him back on track, i.e. towards the heart of the matter, the truth.

But if the guest still persists in using the show as his bully pulpit rather than answering to “the folks” (you and I, as Bill often metaphorizes) he can seem curt as he cuts them off, but I see it as necessary. The folks, you and I Vance, deserve to hear the truth.

As per Bill’s cagy style, keep in mind he is a New Yorker. You have to be quick on the draw. (“No soup for you!”) or else people will move on from talking to you. It’s a busy city.

Romney’s statement proved he was a candidate for those within his tax bracket and no one else. The defense proves that Beckerbots takes oaths of loyalty to Beck, to defend the insanity of Beck’s views and regardless of how racist those views are. Sure they may pay into ssi, (they get that back) and local sales tax but they don’t pay into what they are drawing out of, and that is government subsidies. They don’t pay for the military, the fed court system, Fed agencies. fed highways and roads, Subsidize railroads, welfare, food stamps, extended unemployment …..the list is endless.
I hope your children and grandchildren enjoy paying higher costs in life because you voted to help people live above their lazy, not willing to educate and assimilate means while allowing the Government to over regulate business so that they can not flourish and grow. The only person I saw talking about race the whole time was the two that couldn’t make a better counter argument. The white people in Maine didn’t even vote for Romney. While Obama broke his policies down by group. We’re all Americans, not white Americas, Black Americans, Latino Americans and so on. That is the point will was trying to make, for Obama to say that if your ‘group’ or ‘race’ votes for me you will get this, was a divide and conquer strategy. Also was racism at its purest from.

I am a low-income individual but am working on things to move up a station or two. But, I see what happens to economies and freedoms when centralized governments grow to this extent. What Romney said was absolutely true, you make want to plug your ears and sing, but left has made a profession out buying votes with ice-cream. The attack on Romney as an out of touch rich guy is a stellar example of this. The sickness of repeating to Americans over and over again this class-warfare tripe is a tragedy. Not so much that it was done, but that so many were conditioned to fall for it.

The problem though is that the people who are getting these phones don’t know that Reagan created the program. They call them Obama-Phones! Get it? The believe they’re a direct gift from Obama to them and the administration is fine with that because they know they’ve got those votes wrapped up.

This administration and the democrat party doesn’t care about anyone or anything except or unless it gets them votes. If they did actually care we wouldn’t have the debt we have, nor the number of people on welfare. The War on Poverty was and is just a ruse to keep people voting for democrats.

Liberals on display — all about emotion. Logically analyzing a comment for accuracy is not allowed — you MUST have an emotional reaction, and in fact the one that the status quo dictates that you must have, or else you are the enemy.

For no reason at all. It just is, like racism or the like — it’s the emotional peer pressure that drives it.

It ends when we the people stand up for what’s right, for truth and logic, and stop buying into it. :) The same way the brave people who stood up to racism and the like did what they did.

It may also help to point out the hypocrisy of how the slightest clumsy wording from Obama is treated as sacred and if you dare to even consider a poor interpretation of his intent that’s offensive to them, yet Republicans’ meanings are to be taken implicitly as having the worst of intent, or bad enough. I find that pointing out this blatant inconsistency forces their brains to switch on at least a little and unbalances their arrogant stance. Even the most blindly loyal to peer pressure do have a conscience it’s possible to at least appeal to.

And we can always throw in the ol’ predictable lamentation, “How did we let this happen?”
The problem with promising stuff is you gotta (and here’s the part we seem to be having a problem with) PAY FOR IT. No amount of smugness, gloating, dismissiveness or happy dancing is going to change the fact that we, too, are subject to natural consequences.
I suppose it’s more important (and comforting) to win and continue with the status quo than deciding to grow up and get your house in order. R or D, I’m tired of hearing how your heroes and saviors can “fix” us Yep. We’re being “fixed” alright. Line up, junkies! We’ll make it all better!

When the total ramifications of Obamaos reelection comes full circle it will bury the working poor and middle income working man, the very people silly enough to fall for the lies. Take a look at “Hostess”. The union puppets, dancing to the tune of their puppeteers, union bosses and the Gimmidat party, have no jobs now. They have joined the ever swelling ranks of the unemployed. and are right where ObaMao wants them, totally dependent on the government. Once their dependence on the nanny state is solidified they become a permanent ward of the state, and a guaranteed vote for the Gimmidat party. It’s how they grow their ranks. The rich and those who have worked hard, saved and invested wisely will be just fine, at least for a little while. Enjoy life on the dole, poor pathetic fool.

COSETT As much as you want to blame Hostess on the unions it is not true. The company went through bankruptcy before and at that time the union agreed to $100 million in cuts. They ended up being owned by a hedge fund which drove it into bankruptcy a second time. This was all after giving their 6th CEO in a decade a $3 million payout. Hostess was rotten at the top and that is why they failed. Nice try though.

The American collective is predictably addicted to gubment redistribution of resources, Ponzi schemes and entitlement programs. The electorate will very likely continue to flock as a majority to Club “I’m gettin’ mine!!!” Hell, even 2/3 of the TEA Party views Medicare and Social Security as sacred cows that shan’t be touched. We are junkies getting our fix from the pushers who beam it’s all gonna be okay.
I’ve said it once, I’ll say it again: I do not see us leaving this decade unscathed. We are so deep in denial as to how we, too, are NOT subject to math (and the age-old warning that history repeats itself), that we will gladly live for today because tomorrow never comes.
What’s REALLY funny is how if (and when) we finally break ourselves, I suspect the great, unwashed masses won’t be so easily sedated with soothing lies. Won’t that suck?
I could be wrong with my doom and gloom prediction, but I don’t know too many junkies who won’t step over others for their fix. When the fix can no longer be provided, most junkies don’t say, “Oh, okay. I understand.” They become angry, frustrated turds that won’t sit down and shut up with a pat on the head.

Careful though this ‘quote’ is probably misattributed. I’ve seen it attributed to Ben Franklin to Thomas Jefferson.

      https://en.wikiquote.org/wiki/Alexis_de_Tocqueville

“The American Republic will endure until the day Congress discovers that it can bribe the public with the public’s money. This is a variant expression of a sentiment which is often attributed to Tocqueville or Alexander Fraser Tytler, but the earliest known occurrence is as an unsourced attribution to Tytler in “This is the Hard Core of Freedom” by Elmer T. Peterson in The Daily Oklahoman (9 December 1951): “A democracy cannot exist as a permanent form of government. It can only exist until the majority discovers it can vote itself largess out of the public treasury. After that, the majority always votes for the candidate promising the most benefits with the result the democracy collapses because of the loose fiscal policy ensuing, always to be followed by a dictatorship, then a monarchy.”
Variant: The American Republic will endure, until politicians realize they can bribe the people with their own money.”

That being said, what the phrase is saying is very true.
