‘Heartbreaking’: 13-Year-Old Girl Gunned Down in Front of Fellow Students on Fla. School Bus

(TheBlaze/AP) — A 13-year-old girl was shot to death in front of her sister and several other students while riding the bus to a charter school Tuesday, Miami-Dade police said.
A male student was in custody but authorities did not release his name or age and said they are still interviewing him. A gun was also recovered at the scene in Homestead, south of Miami, but authorities didn’t say where or how many times the victim was shot.
“We still don’t know what the motive may have been,” said police spokesman Det. Alvaro Zabaleta.
Eight other children, including the victim’s 7-year-old sister, were on the bus but were not harmed. Authorities took the children and the bus driver to a police station to be interviewed.
The victim, who has not been identified, attended charter middle school Palm Glades Preparatory Academy. The victim’s sister went to nearby Summerville Advantage Academy.

Concerned parents gathered at the shooting site, which was cordoned off by crime scene tape as authorities combed the bus for evidence and gathered children’s backpacks and belongings. The shooting occurred about seven minutes away from the school.
Fabian Otero said he was relieved his son Christian, an eighth-grader at Palm Glades, rode to school with his wife. He said he and his wife have been shaken by the killing and are going to discuss enrolling their son in a different school or possibly homeschooling him.
“I was stunned! I was stunned!” he said. “That hits really close to home. That’s just scary.”
About a dozen parents picked up their children early, said Lynn Norman-Teck, a spokeswoman for Florida Consortium of Public Charter School. Only a throng of TV news crews camped outside signaled the violence from earlier in the morning.

Many of the students had not heard about the shooting and the school did not make an announcement before school was dismissed, but word started to trickle out as they walked outside to waiting school buses.
Thirteen-year-old Eric Carillo said he was in the same class as the victim a few years ago.
“She was a good girl. She was fun,” the 13-year-old said.
Sarah Baer said she wouldn’t let her daughter walk home from school because there are rough neighborhoods a few blocks away.
“I always take my daughter to and from school. This is so heartbreaking especially right before Thanksgiving,” she said.
The school bus was not equipped with video surveillance equipment.

Well obviously, you are not thinking of the negative effects you are having on your toddler, by drinking, doping, watching porn, and your hate for Jews and Christians.
Shouldn’t you grow up and act like a Dad, and stop posting immature hate-filled comments toward other posters on this site?
Why aren’t you down in the floor playing with your little boy or reading to him, instead of being glued to your computer?
When you grow old, your computer won’t wipe the drool from your mouth or wipe your ****.

Posted on November 20, 2012 at 7:06pmKeaton, please define “bad” parents. Would you/could you use the same definition to describe “bad” teachers? “Bad” ministers/priests? Who decides? What about the child who sneaks the key away from parents who are sleeping, keeps it hidden til they go to work, unlocks and takes the gun and kills someone? Parents who never expected their child would entertain doing such a horrible thing? Maybe said kid acted impulsively, thereby offering up no clues to what he was considered doing? And sometimes, parents do all the “correct, by the book” stuff and STILL their kid goes against the grain. You can blame gun owners, you can demand stiffer laws and higher fines, but you can’t legislate intelligence, irrational reasoning and impulse control. If it wasn’t a gun, it could have been a knife, a sharp stick, a box cutter……my condolences to the family, the witnessing kids and bus driver and my prayers for the child who killed and his family. Sad losses, all around.

I know there are still some good ones out there, but I have talked to and met teachers over the past few years who were involved in selling drugs, using drugs, taking part-time illegal work like prostitution on the side… I’ve met a few other teachers who were very promiscuous and some were even married and having affairs with other male teachers under administrations noses. A lot of teachers I have met in the elementary schools have alcoholic problems and party all weekend long… There is so much filth going on it’s unbelievable.

Posted on November 20, 2012 at 6:31pmGod Bless the victim and I pray this wasn’t intentional on the Part of the shooter.
Everyone is quick to judge him a sociopath without ant facts at all. The reality is that if this kid had intended to kill a bunch of students, why was only one student killed? The article says the vicim’s 7 year old sister was present so there were some pretty young kids there. It’s not likely thos kids could have subdued him after the first shot, even if they were mature enough to think of that option.
Next, if this were a annex attack, why would he have planned it on the bus? It limits his own ability to escape.
While the incident is horrifying, I think it’s possible this was a stupid kid wanting to show off. Boys mature slower than girls and if you add in something like Aspergers you have an impulsive, immature kid who is prone to really stupid actions.
With the limited information here, I’d guess an immature boy with Aspergers just accidentally killed his crush when he was trying to impress her.
One of my sons has Aspergers and I’m sure glad we homeschool.

No, not stronger gun laws but better training…
Learning how to break a weapon down, reassembling it, self regulated fire range experience, how to properly secure. These are options.
What I find is that ranges are overly regulated to allow my to be in existance.
People treating them as a gun, like a squirt gun, instead of the weapon that it is.

We may not know the whole story of this family but that is what it boils down to. Good parenting also extends to where your child will choose to do the right thing even when their parents are not around. doesn’t matter what they are faced with, peer pressure, controlling their own anger, etc.
God help the families of both the boy and the girl. Hopefully this boy does not become a repeat offender.

Keatonc333, more gun laws???? A school bus is A GUN FREE ZONE… As you can see, gun free zones do not work, as criminals do not follow laws and enjoy being the only ones in the area who are armed. What I’d like to see is laxed gun laws, and the total elimination of gun free zones. There should be armed security protecting our kids. Maybe if there is armed presence criminals would not feel free to commit whatever crime they please…
If you’re speaking of casualties, yeah we keep seeing case after case, over and over again in gun free zones…

The OWNER was responsible and should face the penalty for their inability to properly secure the weapon away from children and irresponsibility for leaving ammunition either in it or with it. My father had shotguns and rifles but the ammunition was never anywhere that I ever saw. Not that I looked but I darn sure never saw it.

Posted on November 20, 2012 at 5:51pmIf the shooter was dumb enough to get a hold of a gun or steal it from someone, they should put his/her name in print, and their photo, regardless of age! I’m sorry, but it’s getting more and more dangerous in so many cities and town throughout the USA. If shooters are old enough to point and aim, go to school, and able to dress themselves, they are old enough to know the difference between right and wrong. Innocent people should be protected by the law and all information should be given to the public.
In Virginia, the capital media, tells you the status of the person. (Black, White, Hispanic, etc). In Norfolk, Va.Beach, Chesapeake, etc, they don’t give you this information. It makes finding a person who has committed an crime difficult to find. All information should be provided to the public. American’s Most Wanted (which we are now unable to get) showed photos, gave name, told us what their crime was, and where the criminal was last seen. This is necessary to protect American’s. The racial profiling junk needs to stop. It’s called honesty, not racial profiling!

Posted on November 20, 2012 at 7:35pmThe crime rate was dropping before the AWB was even passed, and after the sunset in 2004 it continued to drop. Do you even know what an “Assault Weapon” is? While the federal ban was in place, I got a WASR10 with one 40rd mag. An AKM looking thing without the dimples. This was in NY too, so AWs had been double banned, and the state one, a copy of the federal, didn’t sunset in 2004 ether. I still have to live under that law, and this year I got a S&W M&P15 plus two 30rd mags. Look in the gun shops up here and you will see tons of guns that the uneducated would called “Assault Weapons”.
What you have been lead to believe about the AWB is not true. The biggest part of it that hit us was a price increase due to the law of supply and demand.
30rd steel AK mag in a free state = about $10 to $15
Pre-ban 30rd steel AK mag in NY = about $20

And, yes, we had Jewish kids and a token atheist or two in my high school class.
There was not lawlessness on this scale before God was kicked to the curb. When the Ten Commandments came down, it was said that the kids should not be exposed to them for fear they would actually take them to heart.
And I will slap at one more sacred cow while I’m at it. Mother Theresa told Pres Clinton that we have lawlessness in our streets because we do not value the least of our citizens. We kill them legally thru abortion on demand. A culture that practices human sacrifice at the levels that we practice abortion will not survive long. We have left all the commandments in the dust, broken by our willfulness.
We have told God He’s not God, we are. We make idols of bank accounts and worship success. We use the Name of God as a swear word. We pay no attn to a day of rest and reflection. We throw out old parents to the nursing home to die. We steal, murder, lie, made adultery a chic sport, do not respect others’ success but want to take it away.
Examine yourself. Turn back to God before He decides He’s had enough of our bad behavior!
