Ridiculously Accurate ‘Futurist’ Shares His Bold Prediction on The Glenn Beck Program

Inventor and futurist Ray Kurzweil (Image: Wikimedia)
The Mayans might have predicted that the end of the world is only a month away from now, but Ray Kurzweil would say the end of the world as we know it will come sometime in the middle of 2040.
At that time, Kurzweil believes technology and artificial intelligence (or accelerated intelligence as he would call it) will be so advanced that humans will augment their own minds and organs with computers that exceed their own natural intelligence.
Kurzweil has been called a “restless genius” and a “futurist.” On Tuesday, he sat down with Glenn Beck again on TheBlaze TV to discuss his ideas and his new book “How to Create a Mind: The Secret of Human Thought Revealed.”
If you haven’t heard yet of Kurzweil and his ideas, the crux is that at some point in the not so distant future humanity will make a technology-evolutionary jump, which he calls “the singularity.” Believing such an event could happen feeds on itself creating an atmosphere that moves the necessary technological advances in genetics, robotics and other fields forward to a point where computers will exceed human intelligence and the only logical next step would be for us to use them to improve ourselves.
Here is a very brief snapshot of how Kurzweil describes the singularity on his website:
Within a quarter century, nonbiological intelligence will match the range and subtlety of human intelligence. It will then soar past it because of the continuing acceleration of information-based technologies, as well as the ability of machines to instantly share their knowledge. Intelligent nanorobots will be deeply integrated in our bodies, our brains, and our environment, overcoming pollution and poverty, providing vastly extended longevity, full-immersion virtual reality incorporating all of the senses (like “The Matrix”), “experience beaming” (like “Being John Malkovich”), and vastly enhanced human intelligence. The result will be an intimate merger between the technology-creating species and the technological evolutionary process it spawned.
[...]
We’ll get to a point where technical progress will be so fast that unenhanced human intelligence will be unable to follow it. That will mark the Singularity.
[...]
I set the date for the Singularity—representing a profound and disruptive transformation in human capability—as 2045. The nonbiological intelligence created in that year will be one billion times more powerful than all human intelligence today.
In this way, it would create a new type of humanity that doesn’t even necessarily die. In fact, in a Time magazine article published last year, the writer Lev Grossman stated that it is Kurzweil’s goal to stay alive until singularity is achieved for this reason. He’s 63 now but described his biological self as 20 years younger than that.
Here’s how Grossman described the singularity’s potential impact on humanity:
Once hyper-intelligent artificial intelligences arise, armed with advanced nanotechnology, they’ll really be able to wrestle with the vastly complex, systemic problems associated with aging in humans. Alternatively, by then we’ll be able to transfer our minds to sturdier vessels such as computers and robots. He and many other Singularitarians take seriously the proposition that many people who are alive today will wind up being functionally immortal.
Kurzweil calls the exponential speed by which technology is advancing the law of accelerating returns. Here is a chart and graph showing the “countdown to singularity.”

Watch Kurzweil appearance on TheBlaze TV below:
Part II:
Part III:
Based on Kurzweil’s law, he has created predictions of where technology will be in the near future. Here are just a few predictions that he gave at a recent conference (via Business Insider):
- Our brains will extend to the cloud, which will allow us to learn new things at any age.
- We will be able to selectively erase pieces of our memory.
- We’ll be in augmented reality at all times.
- By 2029, machines will be able to match the intelligence of humans, and they’ll be able to make us laugh and cry.
- Around the 2030s, tiny “nanobots” able to repair and preserve our organs will keep us healthier and smarter.
- 3D printing will be even more common than it is today, with public 3D printing stations for people to print out clothes, toys, and anything else.
- Within 25 years, computers will be the size of a blood cell and we’ll be able to connect it to the brain without the need for surgery.
- Society will reach a state of “technological singularity” in 2045 where technology enables superhuman machine intelligences to emerge and people and machines become deeply integrated.
On his evening show, Beck said that when he and Kruzweil meet every five years or so, it seems that more and more of his predictions are coming to fruition.
In addition to this theory, Kurzweil is also known as the inventor of the CCD flat-bed scanner, machines that help the blind read by translating print to speech, and a music synthesizer that recreates a grand piano and other orchestra instruments, among other items. He has been awarded several honors, including the National Medal of Technology in 1999 from former President Bill Clinton.
Read more about Kurzweil’s ideas on his website or at Singularity.com, which is more about his book.
There is also a film based on Kurzweil’s book. Here’s its trailer:
In CONTROL, Glenn Beck presents a passionate, fact-based case for guns that reveals why gun control isn’t really about controlling guns at all; it’s about controlling us. Posted on November 20, 2012 at 10:30pmI sorry but problem with this guys predictions are that communistic societies do not make these kind of advances like a free society would. My prediction is a complete world wide depression & science research funding will dry up. People will be starving & fighting over what little food they can find. Nobody will care about iphones or computers because they wont be able to afford them. This will be the result of policies aimed at population control efforts by this gov. Bottom line we are in for a downward spiral that could wind up like the good book says “The End Times” http://youtu.be/vgDkznPS4zI
they are coming I fear real soon.

After a moment the Judge looks at you and says; You are free to go. Your sins/crime have been paid for. “By whom?” You ask. “By the Son of the GOD who created you. ” God created everything. We do not know how. We know He did. As with any creator, He wanted to share it. He could create an appreciative audience, I suppose, but He wanted real minds to share with, He created Man. He didn’t want Man to be lonely, He created WOMAN and He gave both of them FREEDOM OF CHOICE/FREE WILL. Life on Earth was to be a training ground of sorts. Some plants lived, some died, some produced good fruit, some didn’t an mankind was to choose Him (Hopefully). In order to be able to make a choice, there had to be a choice..so the
tree of Knowledge was planted in the middle of their garden. Backstory here is the Fallen Angel (now known as Satan) who didn’t want to go along with GOD but wanted to be GOD. The first example of PRIDE (going before the fall) SO all of life since has been the test between Good and Evil.
OUR first job, folks, is to get close to GOD. All of the rest will take care of itself. US – GOD. Do not fret about tomorrow. IF you go to GOD you will know a Peace that Passes All understanding!

LIFE, this life here on this planet is a very short ‘testing facility’. NO GOD who truly loves us would put in a place to eventually die. BUT a GOD who wants His creations with Him for Eternity would want to bring along only those who, on their own, made the choices which means that eternal life won’t be the hell, the chaos that earth is with the evil threaded throughout.
You can either spend your time trying to ‘forecast’ the future; worrying about the future’ even fretting about when Christ will return or even still more foolish: trying to manipulate events to force Jesus to come sooner (as if you can force God to do anything!!!) or you can get busy knowing GOD, knowing the BIBLE, understanding that it’s really ONE BIG STORY and even all the side-stories feed into the main stream of the story from Old to and finally in Revelations. The more you know about it, the more amazed you will become. Most of the sayings you think Ben Franklin said or others are actually in the BIBLE. Until, however, you read it with a receptive heart, the words are blah blah blah blah…but with a receptive heart, it reads the the most engrossing novel you’ve ever had your hands on! Nothing else counts really. Not who wins elections, not who is currently UP or DOWN or RICH or POOR…the only thing that counts is GOD. THINKABOUTIT.

Precisely. His wild ideas about the future cannot exist without the foundation of a strong, booming economy. It also can’t exist without a society concerned with only doing good things for their fellow human beings. I’m not saying something like he’s imagining can’t ever happen, but I think the process will be severely halted by economic disaster, along with the requisite power-hungry lunatics bent on world domination. Right now, computers are at the mercy of the programmers, and reflect their influence. There has to be input, for there to be output. His premonitions are wildly optimistic. I’m afraid I just don’t trust humanity the way he seems to.

Also our near term economic future is bleak at best. Based on our debt based world currencies, we have very limited growth left without collapse.

God is not all knowing because he is half computer.
This is a counterfeit version of God’s plan. And you know who is always trying to imitate God? That would be the Devil.
I believe Jesus Christ came to earth, lived a mortal life, then was crucified and died. Three days later he overcame death by being ressurected by the power of God. He lives today in a perfect immortal body. No computers.

Posted on November 21, 2012 at 12:31pmThis does smell of shameless self-promotion. Kurzweil is a bit aloof and arrogant for me. I think he is simply a man with best days (and inventions) behind him and he wants to sell books and go out speaking. Unfortunately, I think the same may be true for Glenn.
Many of the people that watched him after “waking up” in 2006-2008 are in a much better head-space now; eyes wide open, talking to their Creator, making positive changes to fix their families and be a blessing to their fellow man. My wife and I evangelize for Free Markets, true Biblical faith in God (notice I didn’t say Christianity?), and a correct teaching of historical events of the world. Long story short we don’t need Glenn anymore, and this is good for the country. It is bad for Glenn and Mercury. He will be forced to compromise his separatist leanings (like signing up with Dish) and his rebel edge in order to keep the enterprise running with fewer viewers. I will still buy his books from time to time if they are something that interests me, but honestly I read my Scriptures more than anything else these days because my thirst for the truth sends me there.
Glenn, thank you for your hard work, perseverance, and everything else you have a great heart. You have given your audience the full E4 training program and we are very grateful. However, you have a business to run and this movement is about independence. So, as for me and my house; we are off to serve YHVH in the best way we can. Peace be with you B

Posted on November 22, 2012 at 1:28am@ PattyHenry – That’s right, just like Ray Comfort says. Not according to what we find at Genesis 3:4,5. But that’s pretty inconvenient, so therefore it must be correct to think that death is a reward, like satan said, and not punishment for disobedience and rebellion like God said. That’s right, satan said we wouldn’t die, and God said we would, I guess that means satan has won, because everybody KNOWS that when you die, your ‘soul’ goes to heaven, or paradise in case your a muslim, or the happy hunting ground in case you’re native american, or native canadian. The devil wouldn’t lie about a little thing like that, would he? Obviously, the Bible was printed wrong so it needs to be reprinted again and remove that little gem too. You and Ray get right to work on that, will you, please?
“LIFE, this life here on this planet is a very short ‘testing facility’. NO GOD who truly loves us would put in a place to eventually die” isn’t in the Bible I read. I’ve never seen testing facility listed as any of the things the earth is meant for. Never mind the resurrections chronicled throughout the scriptures, or the context leading up to them, or what they really represent.
What a great way to keep people in chains, a bribe with eternity in heaven or a threat with eternity in hell. Your hearts are in the right place, but I can’t agree with man over the Bible.

In 1978, when AI did not appear, once again they predicted ten years until finally, in 1988, they stopped predicting. If you notice, people wrongly predict things all the time. More importantly, no one ever predicts correctly. No one predicted cell phones, video games or for that matter, something as silly and mundane as the pet rock. There is a good reason for this of course,no human being can predict the future.

Logic dictates that lack of evidence for somethings existence is not evidence that it doesn’t exist in the same way lack of evidence that something doesn’t exist isn’t evidence that it does exist. So just because they can’t prove their god exists at doesn’t mean that he doesn’t exist. You dont have to believe as they do but you can’t say that they can’t believe. why not try and educate yourself….read Thomas Acquinas or the works of the Ante-Nicene Fathers… or better yet… CS Lewis Mere Christianity and the Screw tape Letters….
now…all of these works require that you actually can think logically and philosophically and have an open mind…which might be hard for someone that displays on a daily basis that they have no mind at all….other than what he/she/it prints out from the Daily KOS to reprint here….
I would love to discuss the theories you believe are true..but I don’t like to criticize the religious beliefs of others and I only have 1400 characters…
things like the theory of macro evolution – not Darwinism which was Natural Selection.
things like the Big Bang Theory and the fact that even Hawking dumped 20 years of research and started over, stating that Einstein might have been right about the Universe and Quantum Mechanics
things like the Nature of Man, morals, ethics, and values and the role of belief in a higher power in governing and guiding the course of Mankind to become civilized and stay that way…
things like the statistical data and evidence that links the rise in teen pregnancy, drug use, murder, divorce, and abuse of all kinds directly to the systematic removal of God from all aspects of society, schooling, and the public arena
but then again…I have better things to do like watching paint dry…

If you actually bothered to do ANY research into human history you’d know religion is one of the things we have to thank for our continued survival. It’s our ability to have faith in something when all evidence says you are wrong that pushes use to progress and improve our selves and make life better for future generations. We are designed for religion. It is human nature. It’s sad that people like you chose to embrace ignorance and ignore the entirety of human history.

There is a prophecy in Psalms that indicates God’s purpose for us:
10And just a little while longer, and the wicked one will be no more;
And you will certainly give attention to his place, and he will not be.
11But the meek ones themselves will possess the earth,
And they will indeed find their exquisite delight in the abundance of peace.
Psalms 37:10-11
And this; 13But there are new heavens and a new earth that we are awaiting according to his promise, and in these righteousness is to dwell. – 2 Peter 3:13
Peace and righteousness will be the future for the earth, in God’s Kingdom. Is computer technology necessary for this future where mankind will be peaceful and right with God? Will man’s present course get us there?

I cannot speak for others, just myself. I have come to the conclusion that all we see, feel, taste, and hear was designed, and engineered to serve it’s own function in such a symbiotic fashion that it concludes upon me to recognize a designing force, a Creator. Everything I see and experience shows proof of a powerful, almighty God behind it all. As I contemplate the items around me, I logically see design in these inanimate products. A simple thing like a paper clip had a designer. How much more the designer and engineer of our eyeballs. There is of course much more I can say but this is not the place for that. I am not the one to prove to you the existence of Jehovah God, you are the one who has that responsibility as one of His creations.

One: An agnostic QUESTIONS the existence of God, an atheist DENIES the existence…you need to figure out which you actually are.
Secondly, a person with faith (which is ***belief that does not rest on logical proof or material evidence***), by definition, does NOT need to prove that God exists. That is why it’s called a “leap of FAITH”.
It’s just like the faith you place in God NOT existing. It’s your wager.

1Faith is the assured expectation of things hoped for, the evident demonstration of realities though not beheld. 2For by means of this the men of old times had witness borne to them.
3By faith we perceive that the systems of things were put in order by God’s word, so that what is beheld has come to be out of things that do not appear.

…what may be known about God is manifest among them, for God made it manifest to them.20For his invisible [qualities] are clearly seen from the world’s creation onward, because they are perceived by the things made, even his eternal power and Godship, so that they are inexcusable;21because, although they knew God, they did not glorify him as God nor did they thank him, but they became empty‐headed in their reasonings and their unintelligent heart became darkened.22Although asserting they were wise, they became foolish23and turned the glory of the incorruptible God into something like the image of corruptible man and of birds and four‐footed creatures and creeping things.
Verse 23 reminds us of the evolution theory and its attempt to explain away God’s existence or creator-ship.

Posted on November 21, 2012 at 3:19amTROLLMONGER,
You ask for proof of God’s existence but the simple truth is that concrete proof is not given to man because man is required to have faith in order to test where his heart truly lies and in order to allow man the optimal use of his own free will.
Let me ask you something now. Are you married or do you have some kind of a significant other? If not now, have you ever been in a loving relationship with any other person before? How do you prove that the other party in that relationship loves you? How do you show concrete proof that the other person isn’t just acting out of some self-serving desire or sense of duty or obligation? How can you concretely prove that the you have true feelings of love for that other person? You can’t. The fact is that such things can not ever be proven and having any level of a loving relationship with anyone requires, yep you guessed it, faith. Understanding God is no different. We have no concrete proof that we can give you but much as you feel love for somebody else and you feel their love for you, those who exercise faith in God can likewise feel God’s love for them and His influence in their lives. I’ve made several assumptions about you here though in assuming you know what a loving relationship is. I hope you do. If not, you won’t understand a single thing I say and it is no surprise that so much of what you say sounds so negative. I hope you can find some faith somewhere, I would hate going through life in uncertainty.

Posted on November 21, 2012 at 9:14am@SOMETHING IS WRONG Wonderful analogy, thank you! Makes the abstract meaningful.
So many atheists want proof of God in material form, as a chilly end product of an intellectual exercise/math equation. They’ve had it drilled into them that our emotions are nothing more than a byproduct of biological impulses. Consequently, emotions are nothing to value, especially as a navigational guide in life. Even love is suspect –deemed as inconsequential as specific hormones for social/maternal bonding. With that kind of cynicism, how could one trust anything? BELIEVE in anything?
Here’s a bit of armchair psychology (no offense, but if the shoe fits….): The atheists I’ve known are deeply unsettled individuals, usually male, typically from a fractured family background (featuring an absent/defective relationship with father). These unfortunate people often come across as “educated”, arrogant, disdainful, misanthropic, and darkly “witty” (as they sip their morning coffee over a delivered copy of the New York Times), but that’s cover for deep personal insecurities resulting from an unstable emotional past and lack of deep certainty about the future.
We have a perfect storm: An emerging generation of those steeped in cynicism, hostility towards/elimination of God in public life (pop culture+government+educational system) combined with the demographics of broken families and the growing numbers of the faithless who eagerly trade God for the embrace of Big Government.

I’ve always talked about having a chip behind the ear, but that was only to give people a simple visual concept. When I saw the Skynet concept it fit right in. Imagine the intellect that computers that can move around and create computers/machines/weapons of their liking have. They can all connect into a worldwide net. Will they discover or create a religion for them. Will they create their own society, take off for space, be altruistic, hostile, etc. So much to hypothesize. Is man not just the neanderthal monkey in the evolutionary process. Thousands of questions.
Back then, and still today I believe we will have 2 types of people, those that do, and the purists. Didn’t expect it to happen for maybe a few hundred years though. Interesting times. Wish I would be here to see it. And we are creating it. Screwy.

Posted on November 20, 2012 at 8:48pmFrom a historical perspective, whether you believe in ‘sky god’ or not; what I find most troubling is that the believers rarely take the time to properly study their Holy book…..for themselves.
‘The Rapture’ is never mentioned in *any* canonical text…Neither Hebrew nor Greek. It is simply part of a dispensationalist/futurist concept introduced by Jesuit scholars as part of the Counter-Reformation (to reel in the Protestant movement.) It worked.
Sadly, regardless of religion (or lack thereof); religious believers rarely open their minds to study factual history individually…and instead simply take the words of their spiritual leaders as pre-determined fact during their weekly Friday/Saturday/Sunday meetings.

You just showed us that you, just like so many others, don’t get what evolution is. Evolution is simply change over time in response to external pressures. That is all it is. It has no direction. there is no such thing as devolution. That’s a junk term. Things evolve to continued survival just as easily as they evolve to their extinction. We are like any other species. We change for our own survival. What works today may not work tomorrow and will necessitate a change.

Those “external pressures” you speak of are often caused by “evolution”. The more humanity evolves, the closer we get to destroying ourselves.
Humanity is a violent species. Evolution of a violent species doesn’t make humanity less violent, it just gets better at disguising and rationalizing the violence.
The more advanced we strive to be, the less better-off we seem to become.
