Atheist Calls Jesus ‘Psychologically Disturbed’ & Pledges Lawsuit Against TX Nativity Unless Christians Post This Sign

Patrick Greene (The Athens Review)
Atheist activist Patrick Greene’s story has been a curious one. Last December, he made headlines after threatening to sue over a well-known nativity display on the Henderson County courthouse lawn in Athens, Texas.
If you’ll recall, Greene became ill and, despite his vocal opposition to the Christian symbol, local believers donated money to help him and his wife afford groceries. He was so moved that he subsequently converted to Christianity, leading to an uplifting and inspirational story that was widely reported by media.
However, the tale didn’t end there. We reported in April 2012 that Greene not only left atheism behind, but that he was also considering entering ministry. These aspirations were short-lived, though, as he sent an e-mail to TheBlazeΒ just one month later in May, claiming that his conversion lasted one week before he, once again, became an atheist.
“The story you wrote last month about me, I thought youβd interested in knowing that my βconversionβ was temporary.Β It lasted less than a week,” he wrote earlier this year. “I came to realize, after reading just the first half of the first chapter of Genesis, that I didnβt believe a word of it.Β I felt like I was insulting my own intellect.”
In a follow-up phone interview this week, Greene explained that it was the Bible that made him a non-believer in the first place, as it showed a God that he believes is anything but loving. When he began exploring his faith again earlier this year, he realized that Jesus Christ was also, in his eyes, an unlikeable character.
“I enrolled in a couple of Bible courses…the story of Noah and the story of the life of Jesus and I realized that neither story — they did not indicate to me anything other than Jesus was psychologically disturbed,” he explained.

In addition to being insane, Greene believes that the Bible shows Jesus to be “callousΒ and incredibly arrogant.”
Now, you’re likely wondering why we’re revisiting this story. See, Greene, empowered by his non-belief, is, once again, considering filing a lawsuit against the Henderson County nativity scene. If you’ll recall, after the atheist experienced his brief stint as a Christian, he was so moved by the generosity of believers to help him that he went out and purchased a star for the nativity. That star is now the centerpiece of his pending legal complaint.
Now that he’s a secularist again, the gift that he gave Christians comes with a price tag. He wants a sign attached to the nativity componentΒ that reads, “This star was a gift from 2 Texas Atheists. Merry Christmas!” His goal? To ensure that everyone knows that non-believers donated it. If the Christian community refuses to place the sign up with the star, he promises to sue over religious discrimination.
“When we gave them the star I thought that they would, on their own, achknowledge us,” Greene told TheBlaze earlier this week.
As far as the symbol goes, he has no problem allowing the Christians to use it, but he demands that the sign go along with it. His initial motivation for purchasing and donating the star stemmed from the Freedom From Religion Foundation, a non-theist group based in Madison, Wisconsin, and its efforts last year to have an anti-religion sign planed next to the nativityΒ – an effort that Greene felt was inappropriate.
The star, he believes, is a welcome gesture that shows Christians that, despite disagreeing over theology, not all atheists are evil. He told TheBlaze that the FFRF’s tactics are unpalatable.
KLTV.com-Tyler, Longview, Jacksonville, Texas | ETX News
“The wording itself is insulting,” he said of the FFRF sign, which proclaimed that “there are no Gods” and that religion “is but myth.” “It gives atheists a bad name to have this stuff forced on people.”
Despite his disagreement with an organization that technically corroborates his faith views, Greene is also angry with local Christians, claiming that he is being ignored and that the refusal to post the sign with the star is a result of his non-belief.
“I think the money that was given to us by the church and Christians — what we thought was goodwill and brotherly love — was actually payoff money,” he concluded. “Maybe their seemingly good intentions was a way to…try to convert me.”

Green argues that, despite being privately owned, the nativity scene’s presence on public land stands in violation of the Texas state constitution. In the atheist’s eyes, the government is giving preference to Christianity by allowing the nativity to stand on its grounds.
“If they put a menorah right with it, showing inclusions of other religions, that would be totally in compliance with the Texas constitution,” Greene told TheBlaze.
The constitution reads, in part, “No human authority ought, in any case whatever, to control or interfere with the rights of conscience in matters of religion, and no preference shall ever be given by law to any religious society or mode of worship.”
While he maintains that the “good old boys network” probably will prevent his lawsuit from going through, he’s still forging on. Local media reports claim that, in the wake of drama with Greene, the church has not yet decided if it will use the star.

Greene, the atheist, says this is the delusion of a deranged mind.
It’s good that he speaks out, it reveals what militant atheism is all about.

Posted on November 21, 2012 at 8:21pmI hope he realizes that if Judgement Day is real, one challenge God may very well put to him is, if he wishes to show psychological superiority, he really should know that an open mind way past just the first half of the first chapter (or equivalent) is necessary, for any view! I was a lot like how he described himself for a while, especially in not liking Jesus. It was a mystery to me how anyone could like him, although I didn’t voice this.
But I finally realized after years of research that, to put it in terms from him, it was I who was psychologically disturbed, and I was making myself not like him so that I would avoid submitting, avoiding surrendering my selfish pride. Once I finally admitted that I myself was sinful — a conclusion that objective logic does prove, at least that I did wrong, whether or not God exists — and once I finally accepted Jesus, based on force of reason alone, I finally felt my emotional issues with Jesus melt away.
My eyes were opened to the fact that Jesus was not unlikeable at all — he was very admirable. I finally read the gospels with an open mind and realized he was a champion of everybody, even the supposedly unimportant, as seen by eyes of proud, hateful elites. He truly was — and is — Love incarnate. It’s just that Love can be confusing — and confused — to the lost, as I was, who do not know how to truly love. Now I’m amazed that I ever could have disliked Jesus.

If true AETHEIST..he doesn’t recognize CHRIST therefore cannot say CHRISTmas. What I think is that he is a LOST SOUL looking for the true meaning of CHRISTMAS. You will not find that in GENESIS….you will find that in JOHN. Take the 21 Day walk through JOHN and you will either become a believer or will continue to shun JESUS. ONE THING IS FOR CERTAIN….JESUS IS COMING BACK…AND EVERY KNEE WILL BOW AND EVERY TONGUE WILL CONFESS THAT HE IS LORD AND KING..like it or not…IT IS GOING TO HAPPEN.

Posted on November 21, 2012 at 6:11pmPerhaps they should not use the star, or put a little plaque below it with his quote on it. It actually says something about him that he would leave the star there. Better than last year. I did note that he seemed to acknowledge that Jesus had lived, even though he thought he was insane. Jesus was authoritative, as He should be. Lots of thick heads that need a good thump, but He was also loving and giving His life for our multitude of sins. Some people just do not like authority and prefer for guidance to come only from themselves. Self guidance is not so trustworthy. Leaves a lot of room for excuses. Tomorrow I will be especially thankful that Jesus is my Lord.

Posted on November 21, 2012 at 6:48pmAt NHwinter. you are right.. there are tons of things we don’t yet understand. but look at it this way.. we used to believe the world was flat. and that the sun revolved around earth.. as science progresses we will get more answers… I think its pretty arrogant to think we have all the answers when we are a species so flawed that we could potentially die while eating… though i won’t discard the entire Idea of evolutionary design. though i don’t take it literally I do have a a few problems with evolution. mainly convergent evolution (the idea that traits can be passed over millions of years through different species, a dinosaur can develop the exact same traits as modern mammals, such as ichthyosaurs and dolphins) so I guess i’m more agnostic. I’m open to it though i don’t identify with christianity. I’ll leave you with this thought. a thought that I think gives the most credence to a creator. Maybe a God isnt something that maps out every detail of life. but rather one that creates something that builds itself.

As an agnostic, I consider it the height of arrogance to claim to know the unknowable. While I BELIEVE there is something that can be called God, I do not profess to KNOW there is, let alone claim any knowledge of its essence. As a result, I reject all βorganizedβ religions as being nothing more than man’s feeble attempt to identify God. I do acknowledge that many of them contain valid and useful moral and philosophical teachings.
That said, I have no problem with any religion or its adherents, nor of their religious observances, be they public or private. I do take exception with those who insist on making aggressive and unwanted attempts to convert me to their belief, be they an evangelistic Christian, militant atheist, Krishna or Muslim. Anyone who claims to be offended by public Christian displays such as a nativity scene on a courthouse lawn or a cross lacks something in their life and is only fulfilling a perverse need to deprive others of something meaningful.

I wish they’d get over themselves – because it IS all about THEM, isn’t it?
And only an atheist could be so nasty as to accuse a bunch of people of devious intentions when all they did was give the man charity out of the goodness of their hearts while not expecting anything in return. I like the part where he felt his intellect was insulted by the first half of Genesis, what I have recently discovered about Genesis, the very first words. “In the beginning God created the heavens and the earth” God’s word nail it. That is(in the beginning) “time” (God created the heavens)”space”(and earth)”matter” this combination, Time,Space and Matter and the importance of it to science is amazing. scientist only figured this out in the last 100 yrs.

There are innumerable tests (most we’d never know or recognize) we go through. Being responsible, working hard, being benevolent in strife, getting to KNOW GOD, Honoring His Son JESUS CHRIST, these are the tasks we have…all the rest are secondary (Our careers, our families, what we accomplish) . Figure it out. GOD created it all, He owns it all. Recognize that YOU did not create yourself and everything you have can be lost in a second. Figure it out that we are not here for US but some larger plan. YOUR (almost funny) incredibility shows what a long path you have in front of you. Mapping the human Genome, sending shuttles to Mars, creating medicines, creating the internet, advancements in molecular biology and defining Black Holes were all things that atheists and deists contributed to. “attempting to understand dark matter” is hardly an accomplishment….. created “every breakthrough in physics and philosophy”- isaac newton, louis pasteur, edward milne, max planck, albertus magnus, john calvin, galileo, descartes, pascal, and john locke would disagree.
“quantum mechanics” evolved directly from Quaker Thomas Young’s Wave- light theory and double- slit experiment.
John Dalton, another lifelong Quaker, developed the first model of an atom.
Michael Turner, who coined the term “Dark Energy” also said “the paradox is atheism fails without God”.

He didn’t control how he got into life, who his parents were, what his gifts were, even his heritage items, (Hair color, sex, size) and his excuse: Just because he didn’t understand Genesis – he has decided all of this.
The BIBLE is GOD’S gift to believers or those open to believe. How many people have told you that when they first began to read the Bible it was like a blur of words, thou’s and thee’s and begats etc?
And then later these same people tell you the Bible reads like the great book it is. That’s because it does not compute to Non-Believers. You can’t pick up a French Book and read it – you have to study the language.
This poor man, this loser, is trying to make himself feel better by knocking this wonderful gift from GOD.
What I can’t tolerate is people who will knock our JESUS CHRIST or try to make crude comments about HIM. Jesus doesn’t need MY defense, but I need to speak up.
IF people would just spend a few minutes to understand that Jesus came to Earth to die. GOD’s Justice required this sacrifice. IT requires some effort on YOUR part to know why. To those who have studied it – it makes total sense. I am sorry for any person who doesn’t know Jesus!

Because it challenges them and forces them to look at themselves and judge themselves before they render judgement on others. The bilbe is the map for The LOST to follow. For the Believers already know the way and are following the map laid out in the bible. The non believers have to concour their own fear of the unknown, before they can even open the bible. For they are so brave that they do not need GOD. But there will come a day. That they will meet him and they will fear him as a burglar and think he is there to rob them and will ask. WHO ARE YOY AND WERE ON EARTH DID YOU COME FROM. To which he will reply. I AM and I have been here all along with you and that is why you are here before me. Your path ends today. Do you have anything you wish to tell me. I am listening.
His power is everywhere. For he is GOD ALMIGHTY

Posted on November 21, 2012 at 8:06pmN37BU6, God wants a relationship with you, I too was half believer at one time, un-interested in it, though God doesn’t care about me, was doing the wrong things in life, got to a real low point, and prayed to God for Help, it was in real plain speak, wasn’t Godly at all….and God answered, he solved my problem, the one I thought I would never get solved, it was like he said I hear you, I know your ready for my help now, and he did, it changed my life…I’m very grateful and also very curious to find out all I can about God and how he works, and what he would like from me in return….. Anyway God listens, he wants to know you, don’t wait to the end to get to know him. God Bless
