Some Ukrainian women from a human rights group called “FEMEN” took to the streets of Paris over the weekend, going topless and wearing nun habits in support of same-sex marriage. The protesters emerged in an effort to combat Catholics who also went out en masse (100,000 people marched in the streets) to rail against government plans to legalize gay unions.

It didn’t take long for the situation to erupt into utter chaos, with some comic, fascinating and — some may even argue — disturbing images emerging from the clash. Let’s just say that FEMEN protesters and Catholic gay marriage critics didn’t quite get along.

The Huffington Post has more about the dueling sides who faced off in an effort to advocate their views on the controversial issue:

On Sunday, the Catholic group Civitas organized the march of several thousand anti-gay protesters in Paris, according to the Associated Press.

Topless Femen activists dressed as nuns met the Catholic protesters, according to Gay Star News. The “nuns” sprayed powdered “sperm” from bottles and chanted pro-gay slogans. They donned the phrase “In Gay We Trust” on their bare chests.

The topless women had other offensive notes painted on their bodies as well. They read, ’F**k God’ and “F**k Church,” among other related messages. Clearly, their angst was aimed at the Catholic Church’s views on homosexuality and the institution of marriage.

What both sides likely thought would be a peaceful rally quickly turned volatile, with reports that both camps were chasing and attacking one another. FEMEN announced alleged assaults on its Twitter page, writing, “French religious nationalists have beaten the FEMEN sextremists during the homophobic catholic demonstration…”

According to Russia Today, the activists, known for going topless during demonstrations, reported that two of the women were injured during the chaos. One purportedly lost a tooth and another allegedly broke her nose. Now, in the wake of the scuffle, the group promises revenge for the actions taken against them by the anti-gay marriage protesters.

“Femen promises not to forget this incident and to take revenge on the organizers in the best Christian tradition: an eye for an eye, a tooth for a tooth,” the group announced on its web site (pictures of alleged acts of violence taken against them can be viewed here).

      I know the question wasnt addressed to me but I thin it was Ven Fulton Sheen who said the best way that a parent can guarntee that their child loses their faith is to send them to a Catholic school, My experience of parochial school seems to confirm this.

      So no I would not unless the school was run by the FSSP, ICKSP, maybe the FSSPX or a school that specifically says it it in line with the magestarium in appearance and truth

    Ah, the age-old conflict of breath mints vs. candy mints… this always ends with fisticuffs. If there is one bright note to this story, the male gay activists apparently had the day off.
    What’s really shocking with this story: There are still enough people in France who care to take this fight to the street. No word from Islam on whether it’s in or out on this matter? Lot’s o’ Muslims in that lil’ piece of Heaven who aren’t big fans of Western secularism and who can’t be depended on by the left to take up this cause.

    The Blaze isn’t telling all of it…the anti homosexual marriage protestors over the weekend had this on their signs “Pere, Mere, Enfant”..meaning..Father, Mother, Child. Why?

    Because Hollande doesn’t just want to legalize homosexual marriage but in dhimitude to the leftist agenda..he also wants to remove all recognition of the family from French legal language.
    No longer would a status be indentifed as “father, mother and child”..it would now be “Parent 1, Parent 2 and child.

    “As part of the proposed marriage equality law and its corresponding adoption rights for same-sex couples, France is also considering removing gendered language referring to “mother” and “father” in its civil code, instead adopting the gender-n[eu]tral options “parent 1″ and “parent 2.”

    “Perfectly harmless” cry the lefties on this site…”Hooray for equality and progressivism” they sing out. “Dated concepts of families should be done away with anyway..it’s a new era” they assert exuberrantly.

    But this isn’t about homosexual marriage at all that’s just merely one more brick in the socialist wall. This is about erasing identity and ties to family and getting the mindset established that it’s the state that is your “family” and benefactor. The less you speak of “mother and father” and the more you speak of “parent 1 and parent 2″ the more susceptible you are to statism.

      It is protests like this that help to prove the point.

      This could have occurred in any one of our liberal cities, but the fact that they are Ukranian women protesting in Paris should open our eyes.

      thank you avengerk–what is going on in France is well underway in Canada as well. It is interesting to note that the protesters are upset about Catholics in particular. This is because the Catholic Church is the last bulwark against gay “marriage.” As a practicing Catholic I am happy to inform those on the left that we do not institutionally “hate gays.” We are taught by Christ and his Church to love everyone. But in Great Britain the Catholic Church is under attack for refusing to perform marriages for gays. That will come here too in time, as it is coming in France. We love the sinner but hate the sin. There is nothing inherently evil about being homosexual. The sin is in acting on same-sex attraction. I know several gay Catholics who strive to live within the Church; not easy, but they try. We are all called to be Christlike. That means having compassion for everyone, gay, straight, whatever. But it doesn’t include redefining Catholic marriage which we regard as a SACRAMENT, not just a contract. Civil unions, okay. Catholic marriage, sorry, no way. As others have commented, when sex no longer means accepting children, and divorce is “no fault,” pornography is everywhere, well, pretty soon you’re gonna have topless women dressed up as nuns to promote gay marriage…ick.

These cheeky monkeys are just using the habit as a uniform… the story certainly didn’t state, “Yes, these are real nuns behaving in this manner.” I’m pretty sure the “F… God!” mindset might be a breaking of any vows for an actual nun. These are militant gays playing dress up to get attention. I suppose this is supposed be ironic or to make folks sympathetic to their cause. Me, I just find it predictable (the clowns in San Francisco play the nun dress up game on a regular basis) and a bit funny… in a sad, violent sort of way.

      Hey, why are Ukranian’s protesting in France but writing their protest signs in English???? Reminds me of the spontaneous protests in Iran with English written protest signs.

      VANCE – that’s a classic. How about the blind man that could identify any species of wood, just by smell…

      They put him to the test with different planks of wood and he identified cedar, oak, pine, walnut, etc. perfectly…

      They thought they would throw him off and confuse him by having him take a whiff of one of the protesters in this story… He sniffed and sniffed, and it was apparent he was a bit put back by this last test when he confidently declared “That’s the s hit house door off the tuna boat!!”
