Protesters Firebomb Al-Jazeera’s Cairo Studio, Angry That the Network Is Overly Supportive of Muslim Bro’hood

(TheBlaze/AP) — Egyptian protesters firebombed one of the offices of satellite broadcaster Al-Jazeera on Wednesday and attacked a police chief who tried to negotiate an end to three days of violent protests in central Cairo.

The protesters hit the studio overlooking Tahrir Square with Molotov cocktails, engulfing it in flames. In a televised interview from inside the gutted office, reporter Ahmed el-Dassouki said around 300 protesters approached the building before noon, shouting obscenities.

He said they set the place on fire, stormed the building, and looted the studio.

“They accuse our network of being biased and not objective,” he said. Many protesters had accused the channel of supporting the country’s most powerful political force, the Muslim Brotherhood.

After the attack, a crowd beat up Cairo Police Chief Osama el-Saghir, who had traveled to Tahrir Square to diffuse the situation, a security official said. Protesters drove El-Saghir from the square with punches and kicks, the official added, speaking anonymously because he was not authorized to brief reporters.

Fire crews rushed to put out the office blaze as dozens of onlookers watched smoke and flames shoot from the balcony.Β  The protesters also tangled with the firemen, attempting to take control of their vehicles, according to the Egypt Independent.Β  When Major General Shuaib Abdu Ibrahim tried to intervene he was pelted with rocks, and soon after had to be taken to the hospital.

Wednesday’s development comes a day after a youth activist, Gaber Salah, was shot in the neck when clashes started on Monday. Scores of protesters have been wounded with birdshot and tear gas fired by police, and Egypt’s Interior Ministry says 118 “rioters” have been arrested.

The conflict began as peaceful demonstrations demanding retribution for protesters slain by police a year ago, and an expression of anger at the Muslim Brotherhood and President Mohammed Morsi.

Protesters have hung a huge banner reading “Muslim Brotherhood not allowed.”

Monday was the first anniversary of the deadly confrontation between police and demonstrators known as “Mohammed Mahmoud,” named after the street on which the clashes broke out when security forces moved to break up a sit-in by protesters injured during last year’s uprising. It set off days of sustained violence that left 42 dead and hundreds wounded as security forces fired tear gas, shotgun rounds and rubber bullets.

That was before Morsi was president, while the country was run by a transitional military government following the ouster of longtime president Hosni Mubarak. But this week’s protesters feel he has done little to address their demand that security officers be held accountable for the killings of protesters.

Many are also concerned about the increasingly open push for Islamic Law, and the apparent lack of concern for the rights of women and Christians.

Sadly to say but your seeing similar occurrences in Greece. You know, where they trapped some poor bank workers in the bank, set it on fire then kept firefighters from getting to it. The bank employees burned to death. Even this country has seen and will see severe deadly riots. You think the dependant in society are going to take it quietly when either political change or financial collapse shuts off their Obama phones? This kind of crap will come to the western world and I say that as a person generally not prone to paranoia and pessimism.

Now if Christians were as bad as Muslims, like our liberal friends like to believe, CNN, HLN, NBC, ABC and CBS would all be smoking embers by now.

@JERK- There is no pro Israel bias. I visit a huge number of media sites. They ALL take the side of Hamas, save for FOX and The Blaze, maybe a few small independents. All the rest are hell bent for Israel to be renamed Muzzyland, only in Arabic. They would be perfectly happy to see the Jewish people spread out or even wiped out, and they would happily ignore that story, or call Hamas “freedom fighters” or some nonsense like that.

The Obama administration is finally starting to talk a good line about supporting Israel. Hopefully they back up their rhetoric. Unfortunately, his consistent poor choices have helped the radical Islamic elements gain power and feel authorized to assault Israel. It does my heart good to see the less radical elements of Islam fight back in Egypt – unfortunately our Messiah and Chief has determined that we should send money to the Brotherhood- now those funds can be used to fight against the good Muslims in Egypt. This very much reminds me of the POS POTUS refusing to even provide moral support to the Iran Green Revolution at the start of his term. By the time this idiot is done in office- we will have war on the homesoil.

” A biased and not objective ” media ? Hmmm. I can feel their frustration. Judging from the tone of our Lefty Obama Trolls here, I would expect that violent reaction , sadly , to at Fox News rather than the Goebbels-like MSM of Lefty bias we get tsunamied with 24/7 . The entire world has been infested with hate and violence. Our Lefties have caught the virus – only verbally to date. Obama II might be another story. I would expect that to escalate from their tone and the MIC checks, the Character Assassinations, the Glitter Bombings , the ACORN bull-horns, The Theater of the Absurd Players at the OWS police encounters we experienced during Obama I ( did you notice that they ” cleaned up ” their act as election time drew nearer ?? So transparent ! ) Am sure their Black Bloc/ Anarchist buddies are just waiting in the wings ! Fellow Lefties..all internationally united !

The main things with any movement is the need to ensure the PEOPLE of Egypt stay in control of it and not be subordinated by another extremist groups such as the Salifists, recall that when the first true protests against Mubarak started, they were soon absorbed by the Muslim Brotherhood.

So the anti Muslim Brotherhood protesters protest with violence…That’s all those people know. I feel bad for them however, as their new government soon will tire of them and go the ‘ol Stalinist/Maoist way…That would be to turn the tear gas into bullets and the riot-geared police into tanks.

But seriously… one look at this situation should be enough for any American to go “Oh… how about we just step back from this situation.” It sounds callous but if these folks want to kill each other, I don’t think we should be stepping in the middle to try and sort it out.
