Obama Assassination Comments Made by a Florida Police Detective Leads to Resignation

Sam Koivisto says the threat was “political hyperbole,” but after 24 years, the Jacksonville police detective is resigning amidst an interval investigation into comments he made after the election regarding an assassination of President Barack Obama. The Associated Press reports the 57-year-old told colleagues that if an order came in to kill Obama, he “wouldn’t mind being the guy.”

Koivisto was being investigated by the US. Secret Service before his resignation, and told The Florida Times-Union that the issue was “blown out of proportion” and he was planning to retire in five months anyway.

“I have not done anything criminal,” he said during questioning. ”It’s political hyperbole.”

“The statement that we got was that we got is that you made a threat to kill the President,” AP reports the investigator then asked Koivisto.

Koivisto responded, “No, the only statement ever made about the President was I said, you know, just like when they killed Osama Bin Laden, I said ‘If someone says, “hey, he is the enemy of the State” or whatever and they had to take them out, then I could be the guy to do it.’ That’s not me saying I would kill the guy or anything of that nature. That’s just to say if the guy went away, it wouldn’t hurt my feelings.”

The resignation ended the investigation. Sheriff John Rutherford told AP that he believes Koivisto’s comments were unacceptable workplace conduct, but not legitimate threats.

The Times-Union reports that the detective had been in the city’s pension program and would have been eligible to collect benefits in the spring. Officials say he will still be able to do so after using vacation time to bridge the gap.

News4Jax reports that even though Koivisto was investigated by the Secret Service and U.S. Attorneys’ Office, he will not face criminal charges. The Chairman of the local Duval County Democratic Party told the Times-Union that he was not troubled by the incident and would chalk it up to a case of post-election sour grapes.

Watch a report from WTSP featuring audio of Koivisto’s interview with the Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office:

In CONTROL, Glenn Beck presents a passionate, fact-based case for guns that reveals why gun control isn’t really about controlling guns at all; it’s about controlling us. Find out more HERE.

How could anybody twist that around to make it sound like a threat?

People say that the President is an enemy of the state all the time, and nobody has the authority to issue a legal order to assassinate him, so the officer is at least stating a willingness to commit murder.

The detective technically did not threaten the life of our faux prez. He clearly can say what he did and if I were him I would sue the city and the supervisors who fired him……just for the principle of it. Obama sat and watched a real time television event where 4 brave people died and he did nothing to help. He refused them help when help was available. Did obama (pizz be upon him) get fired?

So you want everyone to lower their standards? This cop was WRONG. His job is to uphold the law, but he is one of those cops that thinks because he is a cop, he is above the law. I am not pleased with the election results, but like it or not Obama is the President.

      thegreatcarnac,

I understand the sentiment, but two points: 1) He was not fired, he retired. 2) I am not sure on what basis he would sue. Many people confuse the 1st Amendment right to free speech in discussions like this. The 1st Amendment prohibits the government from restraining your speech. Your employer can fire you, your spouse can divorce you and your friends can disown you for saying something they view as moronic.

I personally wish this guy had dug his heels in and told all of them to f&^% off. He wasn’t going to get prosecuted, the only reason it made headlines is because he was a cop and some jackass decided to file a complaint about him making the statement. I would have loved to see him push it as I suspect an arbitrator would have reinstated him had the agency fired him for making an admittedly intemperate, but not even slightly threatening statement.

Political correctness run amok. Whomever filed the complaint about his statement, I hope they read this – You should grow a pair, put on your big boy/girl panties and stop being so sensitive. And if you don’t like that, you can kiss my a$$.

I have to agree with you. Those who say the officer was WRONG sort-of forget that the guy has Constitutional Rights, too. Like, freedom of speeck- or he did, at least, till very recently. Pathetic! Their “social injustice” makes me want to puke. Now, TELL ME! WHY are the FED -FBI-CIA creeps “investigating, Gestapo-style, people who are brave enough to voice their opinion, and NOT the people who want to destroy America, and also destroy our Constitutional Rights? I would imagine that just over half of America had the SAME feelings as the officer did about our fearless-mindless leader. So, WHAT? Are they going to start hunting us down for not fawning over the IIC? (idiot-in-chief) -iiCK! Who wants to live in a country that does THAT? Furthermore, I want to know WHO of this officer’s friends ran out and puked the info to the FBI-CIA-IIC? Now, THAT is a complete traitor! Some friend. Must have been a Dem or Liberal.

I am just wondering why the Blaze is posting these stories? George W. Bush had to endure much more ridicule and hate then Obama ever will. Stories like this give credence to inaccuracies in the general population. There are many bitterly evil people who wish harm on good people, than idiots like this taking the bait. This is a non-story, except for those people looking for reason(s) to keep shrieking “racist” or “bigot” etc.

It wasn’t a comment of the officer that said he would kill ” the imposter in chief ” he just aknowledged that he would obey a lawful order to remove a threat to the Constitution and The United States , as any loyal soldier would do . We pledge to defend the Constitution and all Loyal Patriotic Citizens against all threats both foreign and domestic. If the GOP would take the time they spend castigating commentators like this professor and use it to actually consider that some, if not all of their charges are, in fact, accurate, they might compete again at a level more significant than gerrymandered house districts and the deep south. They refused to listen to reasonable evaluations in 2008 that said abominable things like ‘women will continue to vote against fundamentalist policies’, ‘latinos are the fastest growing electorate and need the GOP to stop demonizing them’, and ‘the tea-party will push moderates to the left’. They ignored all of that, for how dare anyone claim that our ‘principles’ are in any way out of line with the majority of Americans. Keep calling Americans stupid, keep blaming brown and black people for every problem, keep deligitimizing this President that has far more supporters than anyone in your party. Keep losing voters, like me. Keep losing elections.

The seeming “stability” is an illusion, soon enough this will catch up to the country, the valuation of the Dollar will bottom out, people will swipe their EBT cards & they won’t work, then the Left will finally awaken from their Zombie-esque indoctrinated slumbers….this will happen after Obama’s successor is in office, and that successor will be the scapegoat.

@MARINE..What makes you think that this President will ever be unseated? I saw a dictatorship coming during his first election..It is doubtful that no matter how hard you ever worked to get him out..that you could be successful in doing so..They make the laws..we do not..they just enacted 40 thousand new laws just this year..and just enacted another to put a halt to investigating voter fraud..Communist book “Rules for Radicals” written by Saul Alinsky..a fail proof ideology..and dedicated to Satan..for one who dared to go against the kingdom of God..gained his own kingdom..They tell the people what they want to hear..Rob from the rich to give to the poor..and they may very well feed them tidbits..but all the power is theirs..and all the wealth is shifting to the uber wealthy..I’m not talking about the millionairs..but the billion and trillionairs who run our government. They plan for massive depopulation..with 500 million remaining..that means 6.5 billion gone..hence the wars..GMO foods..vaccines..famines etc..the 500 million will be in small cities to serve them…serfs..slaves..There is important info in this video..altthough they don’t understand what the one world religion will be..The elitists already practice it..It’s called New Age..which is Old..

@KEATON..The professor is wrong..Obama was raised in Indonesia and went to a very strict Madrassa.(a muslim school) and the Catholic St Francis of Sississi.. He can recite the Muslim prayer and calls it the most beautiful sound in the world….We have been receiving approximately 11 thousand muslims and month..and through his executive orders..have received tens of thousands.. The CIA created the Muslim Brotherhood around 1942..and he has used our military to help the muslim brotherhood to overturn the governments of almost all of the ME and impose Sharia Law..A man of peace..Yes..he is known as that by the ones who don’t know..which are many..What do you think our troops have been doing over there? I don’t think they are picking daisies..but a lot of people are pushing up daisies.. What do you think is going to happen here?.. you think that he can just keep printing money..Remember the fiscal cliff? Did you know that he spent more money his what was it?..first year in office than all the previous presidents from start to his time in office? You don’t think that bubble is going to burst? It’s no accident..They bankrupt a nation before it surrenders and is overtaken…This is a course that I doubt we can change..It’s of biblical proportions..

I mean if they tell you to start going door to door confiscating guns and killing anyone who disagrees, do you still do it? It is just another order right? Where does it stop? You guys are suppose to prevent commies from destroying this country are you not? Will you obey orders to throw people in the ovens when they come? The blaze removed my post?? It was a question of whether or not the NDAA could be used against itself…Could they be put on the list as a suspect of treason and if found guilty and be held indefinitely or on a cull list???? There…. is that better blaze???? It’s a hypothetical question……Anyone with answers???? My guess is no one knows because that’s the way the Monster operates….They make up the rules as they see fit and you are the ant they burn……

      Indeed, it was foolish.

There are trolls who come onto this website & others hoping to push buttons & cause others to make this same mistake. Some people will do this without any instigation. But like I said some trolls here just wanna give a friendly little shove.

I can see someone like Rahm Emanuel or Cass Sunsteen thinking that there policies are the best policies. If you get beyond irritated or impoverished with them & pop off no sweat, they’ll call the police. I do believe others make statements in such a way to infuriate people into popping off.

Protests & counter protests have actors that could explain their position in a clear & calm way but instead choose the most incendiary way not only to move their agenda forward faster but to get others to react, over react & therefore get them discredited & nullified.

      ***
I see Obama committed U.S. troops to the Sinai to secure the ceasefire. It seems world events are shaping him instead of the other way around. So to some extent it doesn’t matter who is president over time they get mold by external events.

Domestic policy is much harder. It can take a much longer time before someone stops deluding themselves & see that their ideals & policies are foolish. It might take a dozen to a score of years before they admit mistakes or get the boot after bankrupting a country.

During Bush’s terms, many, many whackos were arrested for threatening him. It’s quite common during any presidency. the difference is in the media coverage. Getting arrested for threatening a Republican isn’t news. Threatening “the anointed one”, however, is a big story.

Wait until the Marxist POS’s civilian army is up and running, you know, the one authorized in the ‘affordable health care law’ and they answer only to the ‘one’.
