Turkey Gangs Terrorize Boston Suburb

Turkey Gang Intimidates Driver on University Rd. In Brookline (Youtube)
Just outside Boston lies Brookline, a prestigious suburb that is the hometown of Conan O’Brien, and where John F. Kennedy was born and spent the first 10 years of his life. It may end up being remembered as where the Turkey resistance began.
Multiple outlets are reporting that gangs of aggressive Turkeys have been seen roaming the neighborhood in recent days.
“I’ve had them come after me,” Brookline resident Jocelyn Guggenheim told ABCnews.com. “I cross the street to avoid them and I’ve never done that around a wild animal, even though I grew up in the woods.”
The bird, which can grow up to 20 pounds and 4 feet tall, is not uncommon to appear in the neighborhood; but their behavior of late has surprised some. CBS Boston reports that complaints to Brookline Police about wild turkeys have doubled in the past two months, with many people saying they’ve been chased by turkeys on their way to work.
Frustrated resident Karen Halvorson, who tells CBS she has been attacked at her car and front door by scratching turkeys, is working with town leaders to organize a meeting about the problem.
ABC News reports that successful reintroduction efforts have grown the state’s fall turkey population to around 20,000 birds. A simple YouTube search of Brookline Turkeys brings up multiple videos of the bird in rabid packs roaming the suburb. This WEBN report posted from Youtube user cmc1818 in 2007 describes the turkey problem and police response:
With the growing number of unfriendly encounters, experts tell ABC that the best way to avoid a confrontation with a wild turkey is to steer clear of it if possible, to not be intimidated, and spray water at the bird if available. WBZ reports on the turkey issue in Brookline this holiday season:

Posted on November 23, 2012 at 8:06pmDude, this is MA, the CA of the east. They get licenses, free food, and a senator. The MA pus.ies would never stand up to the turkey. All you got a do is drop kick one and they all take off. But again its MA and they will have there own community soon. For the record, moved out of MA 25 years ago, it was already bad….moved to NH, now its getting bad. I hate moving.

Posted on November 24, 2012 at 10:58amIn Maine (and I assume elsewhere) if you hit and kill controlled, ie need a permit to hunt them, wildlife with your car you’re supposed to report it to the game wardens.
A few years ago some duffus hit a wild turkey and called 911 instead to report it; as a volunteer fireman I got the call about a car collision with an unspecified animal. In my neighborhood that could mean anything from a moose on down and can be a very serious accident.
When I arrived in the very large fire engine with lights and siren going there stood very embarrassed couple next to a very dead turkey. A turkey that cost my town about $150 to dispatch the engine and cover related costs per call-out.
So once again it shows that wild turkeys are nothing but a burden on the taxpayers and should therefore be issued EBT cards just to be fair.

Posted on November 23, 2012 at 2:30pmGet your permit, take a bolo and get one around the legs, do that a few times and the turkey problem is solved. The other option is to bring some of it’s natural predators into the neighborhood, wolves, bears, pumas… then get nat geo to film it with a human hating liberal dialog.

Posted on November 23, 2012 at 1:38pmCarry a machete. It’s your protection, and also is good for bringing home Christmas dinner!
One quick swipe, off with his head.
One problem, though… If there is more than one, you may need to buy a bigger freezer!
Oh, and I’d suggest learning to field dress a turkey BEFORE that day you actually need to do it. Youtube!

Posted on November 23, 2012 at 12:08pmMake the area a protected area and move all the people out to another part of Boston and demolish the houses and make it wooded. What is good for the Spotted Owl is good for the wild turkeys.
