President Obama: Small Businesses Are ‘Backbone of Our Economy’ and ‘Cornerstones of Our Nation’s Promise’

President Barack Obama made a quick trip to a Virginia bookstore in support of “Small Business Saturday” over the weekend, the Associated Press reports.
Obama took his daughters, Sasha and Malia, to One More Page Books in Arlington, Va. to encourage shoppers to patronize mom-and-pop businesses after Thanksgiving. He reportedly encouraged people to consider “Small Business Saturday” as a local alternative to “Black Friday” or “Cyber Monday.”
“From the mom-and-pop storefront shops that anchor Main Street to the high-tech startups that keep America on the cutting edge, small businesses are the backbone of our economy and the cornerstones of our nation’s promise,” Obama said in a statement Friday, according to The Hill.

“Through events such as Small Business Saturday, we keep our local economies strong and help maintain an American economy that can compete and win in the 21st century,” he added.
At the store, Obama held up his BlackBerry, apparently looking up a book title as he spoke with shop owner Eileen McGervey. He said “preparation” was the key to his shopping trips.

But what about the looming “fiscal cliff” that is scheduled to crush this exact type of business? How will they deal with ever-increasing taxes, and the implementation of Obamacare?
Apparently the president brushed off a reporter’s related question, saying only “we’re doing Christmas shopping.”
The White House says Obama bought 15 children’s books that will be given as Christmas gifts to family members.
The Associated Press contributed to this report.

The only way to stave off total control is to go after the UN…….The UN is the hub. Obama, is MB and Islam is his first loyalty. The rest is foder……..The UN is a terrorist organization and we are the enemy. Any political figure that supports the UN is an enemy of the state. Posted on November 24, 2012 at 10:15pmActually I know he’s right on this one. I always go first to locally owned and operated businesses which is easy in the city I live in, where the city actually promotes local business as part of the quality of life of living here. You probably can’t find better food, for example, of any kind, than where I live, thanks to to value the people living here give that.
I’ll buy at a mom and pop store before I will a national chain any day, And I’ll buy American any day before walking into Walmart to save an extra buck buying some Chinese stuff that was made with patented technology stolen from the US.
But I understand where you guys are coming from. First, you hate President Obama, so if he supports local business you’re going to drive straight to Walmart to buy a loaf of bread to spite him. Then you’re going to eat at Applebee’s rather than that locally owned place where the clientele may be younger or not look or dress quite like you.
Okay, I get it. Whatever Obama supports you’re against. I get that – say what you want here. But still, support local business!

Posted on November 25, 2012 at 10:23amSorry but you can’t blame non-american products on Obama (and no, as a small business owner I most certainly do NOT support O). Blame the death of small business owners on a variety of factors over the last several decades. Over-regulations and taxations on small businesses, unions, consumers choosing to buy cheap chinese products, etc. As much as I wish Obama had been a 1 termer I will not blame him for everything like Obama likes to do with Bush. The death knell of small businesses has been coming for a while and Obama is just helping precipitate it.

yeah, who needs regulations? You know, all those useless benefits the evil unions managed to steal from the poor job creators over the years? We need to get rid of that. Who needs an (almost) living wage? Jobs are moving to China? Then we have use chinese methods! We should allow big companies in the US to extend work days to 16 hours, let them get rid of those annoying lunch breaks to increase productivity. And while we’re at it, we should get NASA engineers to create robots who can whip workers who try to go to the batroom. The 19th century was such a wonderful time !

This man knows nothing of business, nor does he really care. He’ll pay lip service to old American priciples so as not to alarm the few remaining contributors to the government coffers. We live in a new America now. One without freedoms, one filled full of oppression and control, where we are all subjects to be ruled rather than citizens looking to better our lives with work and innovation. A new America that will (slowly at first and then with incrased speed) devolve financially, militarily, and politically. The new America is the final chapter in a 200 year old experiment, showing the natural state of man is not freedom but tyranny and oppression. … One the bright side, maybe the world will end on 12-21-12 and we won’t have to witness it, but I don’t think we’re that lucky.

Our education system has to be wrested from progressives because they’re the problem, they’ve taught kids that America is the cause of all the worlds problems and it must be ‘fundamentally transformed’. Enter Obama and you know how that’s turned out,he read a book about Marxism and thought it would be a great idea for America and he’s currently dismantling capitalism. Posted on November 24, 2012 at 6:33pmMicMac, Socialism doesn’t need big business, that’s Fascism. Benito Amilcare Andrea Mussolini used to be a member of the Communists. He came to the realization that Communism could not properly function and was a poor vehicle to acheive the ideals of Karl Marx. Fascism marries the Autocratic centralized control of government to the State. Large entities at first see a wealth of benfit as their competitors are ruined or regulated away, and smaller less useful entities are crushed for the betterment of the State. Socialism can work without business, but never ever ever on a State or National scale. You can find socalistic societies among small communes in which everyone knows each other, and all agree to supress their natural human natures for the betterment of the small group as a whole. Even then, most socialist communes self destruct anyway.

On a small scale yes you are right, like communes. But on a Statist scale there have to be large corps, usually state run. What I see China trying to do is also dribble in a little Capitalism into the mix, too.
Some of the Chinese people are being allowed to develop wealth besides the chosen few. That is why I know of one local company that is trying to place mainland China monies here in the millions of dollars monthly, with the idea that the people can move here and apply for citizenship based upon the 500k placement rule. Fung Shui here we come. Actually I’ve been involved with the Taiwanese placement personally off and on for about 15 years, the peak being when the mainland was shooting rockets over the island.
