Bill Kristol: Republicans ‘Screaming and Yelling,’ Doing ‘Contortions’ to Avoid Tax Hikes on the Wealthy

(Photo: Fox News)
Weekly Standard editor Bill Kristol has been arguing in favor of raising taxes on the wealthy for the past several weeks, echoing the president in his November 18 assertion that “it won’t kill the country if we raise taxes a little bit on millionaires.”
Now he appears to be taking it a step further, lightly criticizing the Republicans in his party who are standing in the way of impending tax hikes.
After host Chris Wallace discussed the recent proposition of making top earners, or couples making $250,000 a year, pay a 35% tax on all their income instead of raising the top marginal rate, Kristol shook his head.
He explained:
“The Republicans are going into contortions to try not to raise the top rate, while in fact trying to produce more revenues– which Speaker Boehner said he’s for– and to produce them from the wealthy, since they’re scared of being accused of attacking the middle class.
“I don’t really care if they want to find some complicated way to get more revenues…I think it’s probably easier just to give in a little bit on the top rate, but they’ve made that a matter of dogma. I’m not going to break my own sword on telling them not to break their sword on it…” [Emphasis added]
Kristol proceeded to discuss the payroll tax, which is due to increase in January, taking issue with how it has been handled by Republicans.
“Republicans have a huge opportunity here to be champions of the working class, of the middle class, instead of yelling and screaming about millionaires.”
Watch video of Kristol’s remarks, via Mediaite:

Why doesn’t ol’ Bill give up his bank to the Feds first beforce belittling those who wish to not have to contribute more than 60% of the total tax intake?

Glenn quote him to ridicule him, the media uses him to advance their agenda, and TV uses him because they are a bunch of morons in command of communication resources, and they don’t have the imagination or lack critical thinking to present new sources of opinion. Just look at “All Star, panel on the Fox News Sunday with Chris Wallace, or the Six O’clock new with Bret Baier, they are basically the same people, say the same stupid things. They are so predictable that Iknow what they are going to say about the subject of the day, even, before they say it. Shame on Chris Wallace, shame on Bret Baier. The POX on all of their houses.

Why would it be Marx? He had no political power at the time, lived by mooching off of other people and wouldn’t advocate taxation since communism is the community ownership of the means of production?
When Reagan was for closing loopholes (wrongly), he did it under the pretense of drastically lowering taxes simultaneously.

Very little of his economic plans came to fruition though… You yourself have said that it takes 3-4yrs for implementation of a presidents’ plans.
Times were bad, and yet better then today, under Carter.
Reagan’s financial team’s plans had settled the nation and created a foundation.
Companies, large and small, were allowed to develop with little government intervention.
That went through Bush Sr’s time.
As economic times were rolling along Clinton had made those statements.
Heck most people did not have a P.C. in their home when President Clinton came in.
Computer industry started going full tilt, Clinton had the benefit of an ever growing economy and a new industrial revolution that was going strong.
Times were different… and he benefitted from those times.
His second term, he had to waffle a little and saw the times through.
No comparison between Clinton and Obama.

The wealthy are the people who have already made their money and no longer paying income tax. So by raising the top rates, they are only hurting the people who want to be wealthy. There is no way to retroactively take away people’s wealth (knock on wood). I do find it striking that many of the wealthy people like Warren Buffet, etc say to raise top tax rates that they dont qualify for….My thinking is that those wealthy people want to prevent other people from getting wealthy (cuz they hate competition)
