Last week, TheBlaze told you about atheist activist Patrick Greene and his quest to dismantle the nativity scene in front of a courthouse in Henderson County, Texas. Now, just days after announcing that he plans to file a lawsuit in an attempt to see the religious symbol removed, Greene is claiming that death threats have forced him to cancel his plans.
On Saturday, he wrote an e-mail to TheBlaze, in which he shared his negative views about Christians, while also claiming that he has received death threats from local believers. Along with his e-mail, the atheist shared a photo that shows the word “evil” purportedly “burned into the rug” of a staircase in his apartment building.

The word that Greene claims Christians burned into a rug in his apartment building (Photo Credit: Patrick Greene)
“The attached photo showing the word ‘Evil’ burned into the rug of our stairs, was from ‘loving’ Christians, who’d rather kill us, than have an atheist touch their precious nativity display,” he told TheBlaze.
The activist said that the actions have led to the cancellation of any lawsuit plans, but that he expected such tactics from Christians. According to Greene’s accounts to other media, this is the second time that “evil” has been burned into his carpeting.
“This is the kind of treatment that is normal for Christians,” he proclaimed.
While Greene has taken the opportunity to blame church-goers for the action, there is not definitive evidence that it was a religious individual who torched “evil” into his carpet. The man confirmed in a separate e-mail exchange with KLTV-TV that “no further legal action will be taken” following the threats.
“If I filed, our building would have been burned to the ground,” Greene wrote to the outlet, sarcastically taking the opportunity to, again, blame the most recent events on “peace-loving Christians.”
The atheist was previously considering a lawsuit in an effort to force Christians to post a sign that read, “This star was a gift from 2 Texas Atheists. Merry Christmas!” on the courthouse nativity. The note on the poster was in reference to the star that Greene and his wife purchased for the nativity earlier this year (read the full — and bizarre — series of events that have led to this point here).

Nov. 26, 2012 at 12:33pmEvil is any will that defiantly runs contrary to the will of our sovereign God YHVH (God of Abraham, Issac, and Jacob). So, we all do evil things, and we need God’s grace to be absolved of that evil. However, by this definition Atheists have an openly stated lifestyle that is one of “all evil all the time” because they deny the very existence of YHVH completely.
Hmm… if I remember correctly God flooded the Earth to get rid of people like that at one time. Just saying.

Nov. 26, 2012 at 12:50pmWhile I don’t disagree with your point of view.. My comments were pointing out the logical inconsistency of denying the existence of God and/or Jehovah..while a the same time characterizing someones actions as “evil”. How do you figure? Best I can surmise is that if you don’t rely on the Bible for morality, then you have your own moral compass. Such a moral compass can indeed find some things “evil” and others “good;” they probably just won’t align 100% with biblical morality.
I’ve known plenty of “good” atheists and “evil” Christians. I could never make the mistake that just because someone doesn’t believe in God like I do that they are necessarily unable to recognize “evil.”
Now, all that said, Greene is likely a very troubled person mentally. He was troubled when he was an atheist, then when he converted to Christianity, and then when he went back to atheism again (all of which has been reported by The Blaze). His dramatics seem to have little too do with his religious beliefs (or lack thereof) and quite a bit to do with his need for attention. Either he’s got serious problems, or he’s a first-class troll.

Nov. 26, 2012 at 3:36pmIs the putting up of a religious diorama a requirement for Christians?
It seems many have lost their Christian perspective to the important things and now wrangle over non-consequential things with atheists. Any who want to be true Christians should pay attention to Jesus’ instructions at Matthew 28:18-20
Fighting over some nativity scene is not important and does not reflect a Christian personality.

Morals come from whoever teaches them to you (usually as a child). Your choices are far too narrow. Note that I mean “morals” as in behavior; morality itself is relatively subjective. “Christian morality” comes from Christianity, obviously; hence why I said that a non-Christian can still be a “good person” even if their actions aren’t 100% biblical. As an example, I know plenty of people who are divorced and remarried. Yes, they’re living in sin every day of their lives, but I still consider them “good people” even if Christ Himself would have condemned their lifestyle.

Dec. 13, 2012 at 9:21amI want to thank LOCKED for some excellent commentary.
@EDDYBOY, you are incorrect. This atheist definitely knows there is evil, and can cite it out in a ton of places… maybe even in some not recognized as ‘evil’ by Christians or Christianity.
@TWINSPEEDR – Many Christians fail to recognize that God, or YHWH Himself created evil, according to the Bible anyway. See Isaiah 45:7 (KJV). I could go on stating that He created us with a tendency toward and weakness to temptation and evil, but that’s another post.
@CABRITO – Morality can and is also derived from deductive reason upon observation, and from study (philosophy, history etc). As LOCKED said, the choices you list are far too narrow. We would almost all agree that killing a child or a baby is wrong, but you cannot believe the story of the flood without accepting that innocent children and babies (all younger than the Hebrew age of understanding or reason, and therefore innocent) were killed by God’s deluge. Thus, for me, the killing in the flood was morally reprehensible, but for a Christian, the killing was just because they believe that God’s prerogative trumps any human concept of morality. We will likely forever disagree on who is correct in their assessment.

Dec. 13, 2012 at 10:14am@TAINTSO, Oddly enough, one could argue that the founding of this nation had a lot more to do with disobedience and rebellion against a leader ordained of God (according to Paul in his writings to the Romans in Chapter 13 vs 1-7). So one could argue that the founders were actually sinning against God by resisting the powers that be since, as Paul said, these powers are ordained of God and are ministers of God for His good works. Is Christianity about rebellion and resistance, or about submission and obedience? If I rebel against the government and claim God as the justification of my rebellion, then I have to justify that rebellion and claim in the face of Romans 13 vs 1-7. Seems a tall order to fill.
People will claim religious reasons to justify nearly anything… historians regarding the founding of the country, the Muslim Barbary Pirates claiming Islam to justify their looting, enslavement and murder of American merchant sailors (takes the spotlight off the profit motive, eh?), honor killings, the Crusades, the Israel-Palestine conflict… Sad.

A great many of your rights (Freedom of speech, right to bear arms, freedom of religion, women’s sufferage, democratic decision making, etc.) were found, and in some cases pulled, from the Great Law. In 1988 Congress passed a resolution to affirm this.

Dec. 13, 2012 at 10:23amCAVEAT: I know many Christians do not advocate the use of violence against others.
That being said, this BLASBERRY guy has joined the ranks of BODYBAG and ONEIRISHMAN who advocate violence being used against people who disagree with them. BODYBAG said the kid claiming atheism who wanted out of West Point “deserved a bullet behind the ear,” and ONEIRISHMAN said he would “do whatever necessary to bring an end to me whether it was legal or not.” Now BLASBERRY didn’t hint at killing, but said he would forgive the Christian who hospitalized an atheist, or perhaps the atheist written about in particular.
I beseech the honorable among you to cull the likes of these people from your ranks. Many atheists know that the tenets of Christianity do NOT include initiation of force or violence, and we will call Christians who advocate violence out when they make statements like these. We hope that you will likewise call these people out and stand with us (or me atleast) for non-violence.
REMINDER: though I am an atheist, I do not advocate the initiation of force or violence against ANYONE, and feel the only justifiable use of violence is in self-defense from an imminent threat.

I assure you, it’s not a mental disorder, nor was I ever sexually abused, and I would be considered by those who know me as anything but angry or unhealthy. (the size of my “pee pee” is really none of anyone’s business, but I get no complaints :) )
I would suggest that you and I have much in common. We *both* have no belief in the 1000s of other gods that have been made by man over the eons. I simply go one more god than you.
Reading your post, I must regrettably say that it is *you* who sounds angry, hateful and miserable. Though, since I don’t know you, I won’t leap to such a conclusion, nor would I pigeon-hole an entire segment of our population simply because they perceive the world differently than I do.

Odd thing is, I’m still doing “the Lord’s good work,” as Jesus said, “whatsoever you have done unto the least of these, you have also done unto me.” Meanwhile, a deacon friend of mine complains constantly about the church spending less than 1% of the $ they receive in tithes on outreach and caring for the poor and needy. Blew my mind… Church takes in $1.2- $1.6 million per year in tithes, and spends $30k a year on outreach and efforts to help the poor and needy in our community. And that’s just one of the churches… He’s been a deacon of several in the area and complained each church does the same thing. It’s so much easier for “Atheists” to pick on Christians because they won’t behead you or burn towns and cities in response. “Government endorsement” is something courts have argued for decades now but the question remains; who is this display really hurting?… seriously? If you do not like “government endorsed” Christmas, then maybe you should work on such a religious holiday. Throw Easter and Thanksgiving in there as well. Such a sensitive little libturd…

Nov. 26, 2012 at 10:51amHoax…a little angry arent you, you sound like the sensitive one not me. All i said is that many atheists are against government endoresment of Islam as well. I really could care less if a nativity scene is on a courthouse lawn, doesnt really bother me at all….would it bother you if a muslim shrine was located in front of your courthouse? And I like christmas….I like giving presents to my children and spending time with my family. I wish people a merry christmas all the time, I dont get offended when someone wishes me merry christmas or happy holidays.

Nov. 26, 2012 at 10:58amBy the way Hoax…im not a liberal. I believe in small government…that includes government endoresement of religion Im for lower taxes, freedom, and for a smaller entitlement system. This is why Romney lost the election and republicans will continue to lose, you view everything as 100% black and white where the world is different shades of grey. You assume Im a liberal becasue Im an atheist (well i consider myself agnostic actually)….then you go ahead and insult me when In no way insulted anyone. Again, typical of the far right who has hijacked a once proud and reasonable party…

Nov. 26, 2012 at 11:10amDose you have proven you are a troll of trolls. How many times have these atheist orgs gone after ANYTHING that has to do with Islam? Christians are easy pickin’s, that’s why it is done.
Atheists in this country want Christianity disassembled and destroyed to not be seen anywhere in public life. The religion of the atheist is destroying anything they don’t believe in. Grow some hair on your atheistic chests and go after EVERYONE, not just the meek Christians that seek to share God’s love for us by sacrificing His Son for our sins. I know it’s evil that we do that and how many people we have killed with our hi-jackings, murdering, suicide bombings and rocket launching…… oh wait…. it’s the guys you all are afraid if that do that huh?
Before you call me angry, I am not, I am simply tired of the BS that is pushed by the atheist society that tells me they are emotionally or physically disturbed or injured by seeing a cross anywhere.

As gently as I can, I’ll encourage you to reread the Bible. Jesus said, “Take up your CROSS and follow me.” (Matthew 16:24)
Jesus did not even call for retaliation against those who tortured and murdered Him. Instead, He prayed for them saying, “Father forgive them, for they know not what they do.”
If you’re gonna claim Christianity, at least study the Bible, mmkay?

Nov. 26, 2012 at 10:20amI don’t believe in the pagan Christmas. It just another crap of pagan easter. The only thing, I know? The filthy atheists, pagan worshipers, and the filthy homosexuals are the same people. They should love christmas. Because, it’s a pagan holiday.

Nov. 26, 2012 at 11:21am@ TOMMY.TOMMY – Alas, you are correct. Jesus was born in the fall at the time of Feast of Tabernacles. And yes, Dec 25 is completely pagan day…Winter Solstice and many other pagan worship this date throughout history. Same with Easter…Spring Solstice another pagan date. Everything in our current culture and religions have been perverted by MAN as tools to idolize self above the One true God. Forgive Them Father for they know not what they do. Because God knows the hearts of man Jesus was sent for our salvation. Through this revelation Jesus should be praised daily not just the one pagan day. Perhaps the pagan day was chose to offset, overcome or redirect mans spirit to the Righteous One. All Days are Holy to the Saved. Bless you.
As for the technical issue of the Pagan Date there is information on this: http://www.itbn.org/index/detail/lib/networks/sublib/Church+Channel/ec/R3a3d5NjoBOvhCgmZt6rAZ1bnzCPTMJO

I’m a non denominational Christian and I don’t do Christmas either, because of the pagan aspects. The tree, yule log, wreath, magic elves and flying reindeer etc. The Jehovah’s Witnesses got it right this time. Which proves that even a blind squirrel finds a nut every now and then.

Nov. 26, 2012 at 10:30amI agree. It’s funny how they (progressives etc…) want you to “tolerate” their immoral ways (gay, etc…) yet they want to shut down Christmas. Tolerance goes both ways!
Also they have a word for everything on the left. Say something about a black = racist. Say something about a gay = homophobe. Say something about their politics = biggot. But say something about a Christian = educated. They are full of hate, and our failure to speak out lets them continue.

Nov. 26, 2012 at 11:17amI know Doggy, its hard for you and other the believe the lies of Barton and Beck, but the seperation of Church and State also menas that the State can not endorse or promote any religion, like by putting up the ten commandments or a Nativity on public. tax payer land. The case law is clear. No body is preventing private displays, not all tax payer are Christian and the public buildings are for all.

Nov. 26, 2012 at 11:33amI believe in the second amendment and hot lead. I have no problem with this atheist getting some bad medicine. Perhaps there is a new sect of Christianity breaking out that no longer puts up with this behavior. Islam strikes fear in to the hearts of cowards and they still hold up the banner of the religion of peace so why not have some aggressive Christianity rear up and cause a bit of mayhem? Maybe we are getting some old time religion where Israelites were commanded to kill every man, woman, child and animal that dared to oppose the people of God. This atheist seems like a pansy to me…afraid of burnt carpet. I guess you don’t draw pictures of Mohammed and you don’t mess with Christians from Texas. If you want to continue to call people names, drag them in to court and pee in their cornflakes, eventually they hit back. Jesus said turn the other cheek…you need to have a cheek before you turn it.

Nothing like the peace loving Christians proving how much they are a religion of peace by threaten those that don’t believe in their myths.
Christians are proving that given the chance, there is little difference between them and the Taliban.

The Government is not in your religion, a Univeristy or Hospital employs more than just priests and recieves government funding. So lets cut off all government funding to religious entities.
No, stop forcing the government to function according to your religious beliefs. The right to choose and the right to decide what medical care one recieves are basic rights, stop forcing your religion on the nation to prevent others from exercising their rights.
