Controversial Painting at College Art Gallery Depicts Obama as Crucified Christ With Crown of Thorns

A painting that depicts President Barack Obama as Jesus Christ with a crown of thorns around his head and his arms outstretched like Christ himself when he was crucified is currently on display at a community college art gallery in Boston, Fox News Radio’s Todd Starnes reports.

The painting is featured in a larger exhibit at the Bunker Hill Community College Art Gallery titled “Artists on the Stump – the Road to the White House 2012.” The controversial painting will reportedly remain on display until Dec. 15. The painting is actually called “Truth.”

Truth Painting by Michael DAntuono Depicts Barack Obama as Jesus Christ With Crown of Thorns

(Michael D’Antuono)

The artist, Michael D’Antuono told Fox News that his “First Amendment rights should override someone’s hurt feelings.”

“We should celebrate the fact that we live in a country where we are given the freedom to express ourselves,” he said.

D’Antuono blasted the conservative media for “trying to promote the idea that liberals believe the president to literally be our savior.”

β€œThe crucifixion of the president was meant metaphorically…My intent was not to compare him to Jesus,” he added.

And in response to the barrage of roughly 4,000 angry emails, the artist says he respects “their right to express themselves” and hopes they will afford him the same right.

He will oppose and will exalt himself over everything that is called God
or is worshiped, so that he sets himself up in God’s temple, proclaiming
    himself to be God. Anti-christ

Well, but he will have to come from Europe.

So – we have another 4 years. THEN, presuming he does not Executive-Mandate himself a third term, he will move to Europe and become Grand Pubah of the EEC. From that platform he will broker a ‘peace deal’ with Israel, then move the EEC’s offices to Jerusalem, and set the game in motion.

      Lucky non-believers!

@ MACHINE7 Are you sure about that???

1 John 2:18 Little children, it is the last time: and as ye have heard that ANTICHRIST shall come, even now are there many antichrists; whereby we know that it is the last time.

1 John 2:22 Who is a liar but he that denieth that Jesus is the Christ? He is ANTICHRIST, that denieth the Father and the Son. 23 Whosoever denieth the Son, the same hath not the Father: [(but) he that acknowledgeth the Son hath the Father also].

1 John 4:3 And every spirit that confesseth not that Jesus Christ is come in the flesh is not of God: and this is that [spirit] of ANTICHRIST, whereof ye have heard that it should come; and even now already is it in the world.

2 John 1:7 For many deceivers are entered into the world, who confess not that Jesus Christ is come in the flesh. This is a deceiver and an ANTICHRIST.

Though I personally do not believe Obama is the final Antichrist that is in Revelation, he clearly is one who does not follow Jesus’ words and therefore…. like many, are antichrists

No doubt President Obama is the anti-Christ. That’s a given. But so far all he’s done is given tax breaks to the average American citizen and helped the poor get access to health care. Thanks be to God the Republicans blocked his effort to improve America’s infrastructure! Surprisingly he didn’t declare Marshall Law and prevent the 2012 elections or take away anyone’s guns.

As any self-respecting anti-Christ would, he’s declared himself by those things he has not done, like take away our guns or interred TP members in FEMA camps. It’s a diabolical plot to lure the populace into complacence!

Now that he’s been reelected due to voter fraud, he intends to realize his desire to conquer the world via the UN and enslave everyone!

Please everyone: stock up on guns. You may also want to hoard food and water and make a fortress out of you house, God willing. Or move to a desert island. The end is near my brothers and sisters. Got is great! Praise god, peace be upon you. This is end as foretold in Revelations, verse two, stanza nine.

Per the Bible this is blasphemous. Exodus 20:4 says, β€œYou shall not make for yourself a carved image, or any likeness of anything that is in heaven above, or that is in the earth beneath, or that is in the water under the earth.”

This sounds like the Muslims decree against any pictorial portrayal of Allah. What’s with that? I don’t know what the penalty is for making a likeness of this kind, but it can’t be good. Does anyone out there know what the Biblical consequences are for making a likeness of something in Heaven above or in the water below? Seriously man, the Bible wasn’t talking about, like, pictures of angels or Jesus or God or fish were they?

Or has that biblical passage overridden by other passages?

1st Amendment rights protect us only from governmental persecution, but do not protect Mr. D’Antuono from other forms of retribution. As an artist, he produces a non-essential product that he must sell. Having seen some of his other works, I doubt if any conservative will be inclined to buy any of his paintings. I would wager that relatively few to whom his painting would have any appeal could afford to buy them, or are even aware of his work. The flip side of the coin is Jon McNaughton, who has great success in marketing his anti-Obama art.

if obama starts to claim he’s from the lineage of King David, then you can say he’s the anti-messiah. The anti-messiah will claim that to deceive the Jewish people into believing he is their messiah. The Jewish people know their messiah will be a heir of King David, he must fool them to be accepted by them, other wise he will not be able to go into the temple in Jerusalem to proclaim he is he nor will he go in and desecrate it. Obama is bringing in the system (Beast) to destroy. He’s the destroyer.

‘Anti Christ’… ‘against Christ’… sounds like a lot of people in the world. I know it’s semantics, but the world is full of ‘anti Christs’ and every one of them will bend their knee before Him and condemn themselves for their unbelief. And that is part of John’s teachings.
But for this world to escalate the Dark Lord to Christ status is not himself lifting himself above all things Christ(ian), though he has been encouraging such blasphemous activity in everything he does every where he goes.
So he is an anti-Christ, though mayhap not ‘the’ anti-Christ. Someone has said the anti-Christ will be European… who has the real evidence of Hawaiian birth? or European? (Though I slant to the idea that the anti-Christ will not necessarily be European so much as he is an Israelite, judging from some descriptions of him from Scriptures.

Seriously? Now who is delusional? The HC law requires all to carry health insurance (oddly, not even to 100% of the population get it – I guess 2700 pages of legislation couldn’t cut it), NOT health care.

Forcing employers to reduce the amount of taxes w/held does not = tax breaks. Nor does doubling the cost of energy (e.g. gas) & commodities through regulatory & fiscal policy (inflation = tax on the ignorant & poor).

& doubling down on the debt, also good for β€œthe average” folks? I know, β€œbush did it too”! Well only in your world (& our ruling class’), do 2 wrongs make a right. Stop blaming everyone else for the failures, especially the impotent republicans who couldn’t stop a nosebleed. Having a super majority in congress, allowed the President to do things not done since the 30’s under FDR (& that was certainly helpful, leading to nearly 2 decades of economic turmoil & a world war). Let me guess, β€œhoover did it too”. Fools.

As for Exo 20:4, it is forbidding idolatry in Israel. Read Romans 1:16 – 2:12 – it is to the point (& to all men) & covers this present God hating, materialistic, earth worshiping generation especially well.

Some things cannot be stopped. Like Judas betraying Jesus, even if he could have been stopped. It was to come to pass that Jesus was going to be betrayed. Same with the sign of the times, if it is God’s will to start wrapping things up here on earth, then it will happen, our job is to continue our work here on earth and pray and show people the right way to get to Heaven. God does not believe in separation of church and state and as demonstrated all through out the bible, sooner or later God will bring judgement on people. Repent because the Kingdom of God is near.

      From Prague, The Perfect Quote:

Occasionally people have the vocabulary to sum up things in a way that can be quickly understood; this quote – from the Czech Republic. It was translated into English from an article in the Prague newspaper, Prager Zeitungon

“The danger to America is not Barack Obama, but a citizenry capable of entrusting a man like him with the Presidency. It will be far easier to limit and undo the follies of an Obama presidency than to restore the necessary common sense and good judgment to a depraved electorate willing to have such a man for their president. The problem is much deeper and far more serious than Mr. Obama, who is a mere symptom of what ails America. Blaming the prince of the fools should not blind anyone to the vast confederacy of fools that made him their prince. The Republic can survive a Barack Obama, who is, after all, merely a fool. It is less likely to survive a multitude of fools, such as those who made him their president.”

      Acts 12:21-23:

21 So on a set day Herod, arrayed in royal apparel, sat on his throne and gave an oration to them. 22 And the people kept shouting, β€œThe voice of a god and not of a man!” 23 Then immediately an angel of the Lord struck him, because he did not give glory to God. And he was eaten by worms and died.

God will not be mocked. Of course, if Obama is the Antichrist (aka the Beast of Revelation), then he would suffer a massive head wound that should kill him, yet he will live). Jesus would still take care of him in the end.

Freedom of speech protects you from government reprisal of your speech and even that has some limitations (inciting a riot). It does NOT protect you from the consequences of your speech. Plus, the Almighty God he is blaspheming probably doesn’t care much about what this “artist” believes his rights are.

It also doesn’t protect you from the consequences of saying “FIRE!” in a theater and causing a stampede or “BOMB!” on a plane and causing panic. Or shouting “REPUBLICAN!” at a extreme left wing rally and causing some one to be killed. Or “DEMOCRAT!” at a tea party rally and getting ….. wait nothing will happen in case.

McNaughton’s work, besides being truly beautiful, expresses truths known and held dear to many of us here. This guys stuff expresses that which we here recognize as lies or antagonists to the truth. We here seek and appreciate truth whereas apparently this guy values confusion and denial. Thus his work is deemed offensive whereas McNaughton’s is damn beautiful! Of course it is beautiful, on the whole, that even the most ignorant are free to express their beliefs.

OK, I’ll try to make this simple for you, Sonick. I will use small words, so try to keep up.

The First Amendment guarantees freedom of expression free of government interference. It does not force anyone else to agree with the expression. You are claiming that because a group of people connect better with one artist’s works and dislike another’s they are some how hypocrites.

So if someone loves Mozart but finds Britney Spears nauseating, they are hypocrites as well? Do you buy all DVD’s on the shelf so that you can have the movies you enjoy without disparaging the rest?

Have I ever burned a Koran? Have I stated that D’Antuono should be, in any way, sanctioned, imprisoned, or silenced? Termyt, please spare me your condescending tone. You have some nerve, telling me that I am “a child kicking and swinging wildly at all you presume opposes you without even trying to understand the opposite point of view. You have no understanding of defending anyone’s rights but your own”, as that little sentence applies to you too!

let me make myself clear. I think it’s fair to say that most of the regulars here on the Blaze would consider themselves staunch constitutionalists. Whenever someone suggests that burning the Qu’ran or making ridiculous anti-Islam movies is just stupid provocation, you all come out swinging, brandishing the First Amendment and proclaiming that dissent is a God given right. And I agree with y’all (except for th god part). I am just fascinated to see people defending freedom of thought and expression turn around to denounce anything that doesn’t fit their worldview. In this particular case, a lot of posters have assumed that the work was anti-Christian and have used the artist’s purported bias to dismiss his work outright. Even if the artist was anti-Christian, he should be able to express his ideas in any way he sees fit. That’s what art is. That being said, I think that Obama picture is crappy art, on par with Joe McNaughton’s equally crappy stuff.

but what do I know? You’ve already decided I’m just a petulant child who doesn’t play well with others.

So, when you belittle people and call them hypocrites and third rate, it’s OK, but when someone else belittles you and calls you third rate, it’s not? That was your definition of hypocrisy, not mine.

However, belief in the First Amendment means that someone has the right to speech without fear of government reprisal. It does not mean that everyone has to agree it is good, legitimate speech. If I say the sky is yellow when it is blue, then I am wrong. I should not be imprisoned or taxed for that opinion, but folks are perfectly justified to dismiss what I said out-of-hand.

Supporting the First Amendment just simply does not, can not mean that you must support every use of it. If it does, you better recant your disbelief in God or you are invalidating others’ free speech.

I support his right to paint this, I do not support his ‘right’ to show it where I pay the bills.

And of course he did it to get a reaction, I studied art, art is about reaction. His art works then, doesn’t it? Listen, I’m a Christian, and I think this borders on blasphemy. But I didn’t paint it, so I am not the one who will have to explain it to the REAL guy who was crucified!

But along with being a Christian, I’m a veteran, and one of the things I strongly believe in is the 1st Amendment.

If this guy wants to draw or paint or make spit ball art of Obama doing anything, he has that right. I sometimes worry about Christian outrage in America starting to look or sound like Sharia Law! If we swear out a verbal fatwah, that this guy should be stopped and his art taken down or burned, how is that different than Muslims hunting down cartoonists who draw Mohammed with a bomb turbine? This artist has the right to paint this in America folks.

But do we as tax payers have to see it hung in a university where WE help pay part of the bills? I think not. On that topic alone, these things should not happen. PC politics should mean that any paintings like this that touch on anyone’s religion or that angers religious groups, should be banned from, or at least removed from the university grounds for a showing.

I’m not holding my breath for the university to do the right thing. So all we Christians can really do, is call your state reps and call the university
