Did You See the Video and Pictures of the Sprinklers Going Off During an NFL Game?
It would probably be good to start this story with a when it rains it pours quip. Instead, we’ll sprinkle in something else.
During the third quarter of Sunday’s Seattle-Miami football game, the lawn sprinklers inexplicably turned on, showering the players and causing a brief delay and drawing a roar from the amused crowd:
The hilarious moment was also captured in pictures:
Now, if you think this looks familiar, you’re right — it’s a classic example of life imitating art. Some might remember the recent Buffalo Wild Wings commercial that featured something very similar:
And you don’t think the irony would have been overlooked by the restaurant, did you?
Never a dull moment in the NFL.

I was there.
My first thought was, “This will make every highlight package tonight.”

Your headline makes no sense (outside of public schooling). It should read: “Did you see the sprinklers turn ON during the NFL game? Hilarity ensued!”

Posted on November 27, 2012 at 10:49amWhich also makes no sense, regardless of its common use. When an alarm finally stops, do you say “the quiet went on”? Seriously, what do you say when the timer stops the sprinklers? Yes, you say the sprinklers went off.
It’s all basic grammar and sentence structure, yet ignored and accepted as the norm.

Posted on November 27, 2012 at 2:57pmWell it does make sense. Maybe it’s not grammatically correct or “proper” but it still makes sense. Similar to when someone says to “set the bomb off” we don’t say the bomb went on. Part of the meaning of “to go off” is to be ‘discharged or activated.
