Fox Anchor Abruptly Ends Interview After Guest Accuses Network of ‘Hyping’ Benghazi & ‘Operating as a Wing of the Republican Party’

Fox News seemingly cut short an interview with author Tom Ricks this morning after the writer accused the news network of “hyping” the Benghazi, Libya, terror attack. Ricks also said during the exchange that the news outlet has operated as “a wing of the Republican Party.”
The awkward back-and-forth commenced at the beginning of the exchange when “Happening Now” co-anchor Jon Scott asked the author why he believes leaders like Sen. John McCain (R-AZ) seem to be backing away from attacks on U.S. Ambassador Susan Rice. Ricks wasted no time in getting in a dig at Fox News.
“I think that Benghazi generally was hyped by this network especially and now that the campaign is over I think he’s backing off a little bit,” he said.
Rather then letting the comment go, Scott pressed the author, asking, ”When you have four people dead, including the first U.S. ambassador in more than 30 years, how do you call that hype?”
Ricks went on to explain that hundreds of security contractors potentially died in Iraq — something that went widely unnoticed by media. Then, he dubbed what happened in Libya on Sept. 11 “a small firefight.”
“When I see this focus on what was essentially a small firefight, I think number 1…it’s impossible to figure out what happens in them sometimes,” he said. “And second, I think that the emphasis on Benghazi has been extremely political, partly because Fox was operating as a wing of the Republican Party.”
After his second comment aimed at the news network, the interview ended. While it’s impossible to know if the comments were the definitive basis for the segment’s conclusion, the ending is certainly oddly abrupt.

They were people from countries of the coalition, many of them former military or cops in their countries, many of them from Latin America. They were sent to the most dangerous places and often kidnapped and killed.

In this particular scenario, the two former seals were acting as “contractors”. HOWEVER, that doesn’t remove the question from the situation that occurred there.
To use BO’s term, let me be perfectly clear….. There is no such thing as a small firefight. Tom Ricks said he’s seen hundreds of of them? See them and being in one is totally different. That’s kinda the whole point! They didn’t intervene, they let people die, they lied about the origin of the violence– and they have never explained what the Ambassador was doing there.
THEY made it political by not providing even the simplest answers– and then even lying about their original lies– which didn’t work. (Oh! We didn’t really MEAN that we thought it was all because of the video….) By this time after the first 9/11we knew all about how it went down– even without spy drones and surveillance cameras. What is that!?– if not political.

What is wrong with this picture? The Ambassador on the ground in Libya, who has more knowledge than the Whitehouse or the State Department in D.C. asks for more security. Initially they decreased his security before replacing it. Why did they decrease it? To teach him a lesson about whining (in their opinion) for more security. If he whined too loud the press or Congress might get wind of it & that would make the State Department ran by Hillary & the White House look bad. Can’t have that.
So the White House makes a decision to skimp on security to project a facade of peace & tranquility in the aftermath of Obama’s Libyan adventure. And 4 Americans die. American prestige & security suffers. That is the most charitable view of what happened. Now that is not criminal, but that is something the electorate should know. It was what Team Democrat denied the public by deflecting & dragging out the inquiries, all to hold onto power.
I could care less about Petraeus’s affair. Let the military sort it out. They have investigators & they can prosecute him under the UCMJ. The only part that concerns Obma is if he knew & delayed acting on it to serve his political interest (distraction).
But what is most important is that Obama might be running guns to Islamicists & not just the Free Syrian Army portion of the rebels. All this without the consent of Congress. The other point is that Obama’s fabulous Libya adventure has made thing worse in Libya.

When the CIA agents are called contractors, they probably mean Independant Contractors, which they are not: http://www.irs.gov/Businesses/Small-Businesses-&-Self-Employed/Independent-Contractor-Defined they are employees, and the CIA itself is not contracted.

Did you or any US military unit have assets in the air that could have eliminated the mortar position that eventually took the life of the four men? If not, why would you suppose that a battle hardened ex-SEAL like Woods would have been on the roof painting the target?”

He was entertaining a Turkish Minister, WHY? What were they talking about? Because there is some reporting on Fox News that there was an Aid Shipment that went to Turkey from Benghazi that weighed in at 400K tons. Not all was humanitarian aide! Who brokered the shipment and who knows what the bill of laden would tell us.
The CIA was tasked with finding and securing “MAN-PADS” or shoulder fired anti-aircraft missiles like the Stingers we supplied the Jihadis in Afghanistan in the 80′s to fight the Russian incursion for their communist puppet in power.

This interview was going nowhere but there was no reason to cut it off. Fox as a spokesman for repubs is old accusation. I think it was just a programming time thing and not worth pursuing. I think it is smart to get off Rice. Either they know she isn’t going to be nominated or they are more afraid of the option. Back room arm-twisting is the source of the change in tone. Meanwhile, the investigation and attention is moving to the WH where it belongs. Keep up the investigation, Fox.
