Guess Who Could Be TIME Magazine’s ‘Person Of The Year’?

TIME Magazine’s annual “person of the year” title is a coveted honor.  But the picks, selected by the magazine’s editorial staff, can at times be quite controversial.  The purpose of the award is to honor the individual who “most affected the news and our lives, for good or ill, and embodied what was important about the year.”

On the short list this year is  Sandra Fluke, the 31 year old Georgetown student who has become notorious for her testimony over the hyper-controversial issue of free birth control, as mandated under Obamacare.

The magazine explains its consideration of Fluke by referencing her Christian upbringing, Rush Limbaugh’s controversial comments about her and the student’s assistance in helping Obama “trounce” Mitt Romney on election day:

“The daughter of a conservative Christian pastor, Sandra Fluke, 31, became a women’s-rights activist in college and continued her advocacy as a law student at Georgetown. After she complained about being denied a chance to testify at a Republican-run House hearing on insurance coverage for birth control, Rush Limbaugh called Fluke a “slut.” Democrats and many Republicans reacted with outrage, and the left made Limbaugh’s slur Exhibit A in what they called a GOP “war on women.” Fluke, meanwhile, weathered the attention with poise and maturity and emerged as a political celebrity. Democrats gave her a national-convention speaking slot as part of their push to make reproductive rights a central issue in the 2012 presidential campaign — one that helped Barack Obama trounce Mitt Romney among single women on Election Day.”

Fluke tweeted that she was  “honored” to be listed among the nominees. Yet complained that there are “few women” up for the award.

Fluke is far from the only controversial figure listed. Among others that might raise eyebrows are:

What’s with all the anger and namecalling?? She wants birth control covered. Doesn’t make her a whore…saying that makes you sound like an impotent male. Can’t bear the thought of a woman being in charge of her body?! Some people take the pill for other reasons as well. Go to the library and read about how it helps to regulate periods for girls/women whose cycles are out of whack due to hormonal or gynecological problems. Or just grow up and don’t focus on things you don’t experience or understand. And don’t even start with the “i don’t want to pay for that” nonsense.

Hey Apexmoon, do you think I begrudge any man any meds that he may need for his testicles or prostate? Just because something can be used for birth control doesn’t mean it doesn’t have other uses. Or should women have to differentiate which purpose they obtain it for? This is so petty, it’s unreal.

Sandra Fluke is a professional student/mooch. She is a thirty-one year old who needs to grow up and take responsibility for her own love life. The pill cost 96 dollars a year, if she and her partner(s) can’t scrape together 96 dollars IN A YEAR, than keep the legs together. That is being in charge of your body.

@wowjustwow is exactly spot on. It’s amazing that so many people here don’t know ‘the pill’ is for more than just birth control … that many women use this for health reasons. Then again, perhaps it’s not amazing since so many here don’t believe in science.

And, to you that call her a ‘whore’? Do you know something most don’t, or do you just pass judgement on anyone you disagree with?

I think there are more that use it for medical reasons that we tend to think just from those that I know.

As to us paying for birth control, I used to think also that we should not. But when one thinks about it, would not birth control be much, much less expensive for us taxpayers than people getting pregnant and having children (many of them unwanted and abused) and then we footing the bills for their entire adolescent lives?

Who cares if it’s the Time Mag. I quit reading that rag about 30 years ago. No wonder most current magazines and newspapers have lost so many readers. They have nothing to offer but junk or things of little or no substance. To read these mags, all you get is advertising. Sorry, If I want to read ads, I’ll watch all the stupid ads on TV that we have to pay for dearly with cable fees (but I always mute them or change channels for the 3 minutes they bug me) but really considering canceling cable and go back to rabbit ears or something more reasonable. Bugs me to pay for cable and get all the insane commercials, just like I refuse to buy or read the magazines and newspapers.

Did some moron say people here don’t believe in science? Did I read that right? Birth control comes with a user warning: “Product can be hazardous to your health.” That’s not only scientific, it’s a fact. So if someone using this junk dies or has a bad reaction, who picks up the tab,. the manufacturer, government, the end user the tax payer? Just some non scientific questions to ponder among hundereds more.

Someone also said: Some people take the ‘pill’ for reasons other than birth control.” Is one of them suicide?

The argument for government subsidized birth control is so lacking and contrived. Sandra Fluke is a panhandler and a slutty one at that (irrespective of her sexual appetite).

By the way, isn’t she precious? I understand she belongs to the seat pickers union.

Stupid I many be, but your statement doesn’t do anything to prove it. in fact it points the finger back at yourself. When someone generally starts name calling the central issue in question becomes mute and the argument turns personal. This concept is what I was taught by acadamia. If you have a problem with it you might want to take it up with the powers that be, because as you say I stupid. Personally I don’t care what you think of me.

In any event I’m not buying that government should be in the health care business and for good reason. Nothing you’ve said has swayed me either, not even your lame reference to ‘God’. “I sure don’t want to pay for it…if you can’t afford “luxuries” like birth control, don’t practice behaviors that would require it.”

You are assuming women need “the pill” for birth control. How about in cases (and there are quite a few) where women take “the pill” for other health reasons? Should not a person’s medication be covered in a health plan? I used to agree that we don’t want birth control covered in a health plan, yet the more I think about it, how much cheaper would that be than the women who get pregnant over and over and then we all pay taxes to help raise those children not to mention the poor unwanted children that such situations create.

      “I’m a woman and I don’t think there’s a “war on women””

I agree with you. I believe some may not know about our armor. But then there are those who know and have purposefully rebelled against God.
This is just disgusting. You would think Time could think of a better way to make money.
My father never subscribed. I have always followed his actions.

SR0TUM4_2012, LOL, just read your site profile page and see that you are quickly establishing a footprint regarding the types of stories you make a beeline to. Did your Dad move that stack of old Playboys from his closet to new hiding place?

and yeah, ROG? – - if there is no ever after, then please, may my last 5 breaths on this earth have my hands tightly around your neck so I can end the POS waste of heart valve mess you are. The only way to deal with such as you in a godless world is to put your lights out.

You can thank God that I believe in Him, or your sorry days here would be drawing to an end. You really have no clue, do you? Your anal aggressive/passive-aggressive ways are no longer tolerated. Yes, we can pity such as you that is a product of our edu systems and statist TV, but time has past for pity. Get out of the way unless you are willing to help clear the mess that created you.

So … when you disagree with someone, you ridicule them, make fun of their looks, laugh at them, and more. You’d probably also dance around them jabbing at them, taunting, calling names, spitting. How are you any different than the crazy left who does the same with those they disagree with?

Oh, I’m sure you’ll justify your statements in your own little mind somehow as very few people have the honesty to admit they are acting childish and wrong. One would think the people that post here the most would be a bit more conservative and want to do what’s right … then again, perhaps your god likes you to judge, to ridicule, to taunt, to laugh at and the hurt those you disagree with.

You are pathetic examples of fake people who CLAIM to just want goodness and a wholesome world.

Well, since the affect on our lives can be ill, they should put “takers” on the cover.

Just post a picture of a group of people all clamoring to steal money out of someone’s wallet.

Its a liberal magazine that should have went under years ago. It seems like the bigger low life you are the better chance you have of getting on the cover of this tabloid.

She doesn’t have one ounce of Conservative Christian Values. A 31 year old fembot slewing around a college campus on government loans. Then demanding free birth control on top of it, I stand with Rush in calling a spade a spade. This girl is a slew and just wants a free ride.

      Hey Wango….

How come your diaper is stained yellow? And why the pink background?

Is it because you are a yellow chicken or did you just pee them after someone replied to you?
Is the pink pink in reference to your “preferred $exual habits”?

      LMAO@U Wangonoid….
