Haven’t Had Enough of Black Friday? Check Out This Dollar Store Prank That Made the Owner’s Day
The sight of eager shoppers lining up outside a store waiting for it to open on Black Friday is not out of the ordinary. But the group of 100 setting up camp at one store in New York City had bystanders baffled and store workers confused but happy.
That’s because it was a dollar store. The “shoppers” were members of the group Improv Everywhere.
The Improv Everywhere organizer explained that the mission was to mob a dollar store. The group headed to the location before it opened to act as if they’d been camping there all night. They went all out to set the scene with a fake NBC newscaster to cover the event and security to keep the crowd at bay.
“When it opens, we’re going to rush in and act like we can’t believe the amazing deals inside, make a few purchases and then disappear,” the organizer said.

The newscaster asked a person on the street not involved with the prank about what he was seeing. He responded with amazement saying, “I’m seeing people waiting for the 99 cents shop. I can’t believe it. The line is all the way around the corner. I can’t believe it. Only in New York.”
Another person expresses later in the clip, his confusion for the line since the store is “already cheap.”

“For the first time in all my life, I see a line in a 99 cent store,” a taxi cab driver said. “Any shopping area, Best Buy, you know Victoria’s Secret, but a line in a 99 cent store, it’s crazy.”
When the doors finally open, the store owner seems pleased with the business he’s about to bring in.

The newscaster asked the store owner if he’d ever seen anything like this.
“It’s the first time,” he said.
He continued to say he thought at first the customers were waiting for the Rite Aid or some other store. He was shocked they were coming to his.
“I really appreciate every single person for giving us the business. I really appreciate them,” he said.

Posted on November 28, 2012 at 1:14amTHIS is why America is so stupid and falling apart.
To get dozens of people to show up for this type of event reflects the pathetic state of our nation.
especially in NEW YORK – who have hundreds of people out of a home, hungry and in need. these bozo liberal T U R D S think it’s funny to do this instead of helping out their fellow NEW YORKERS in need.
saddest part is – these people think deception and joking is more valuable than helping and loving others in service

Posted on November 27, 2012 at 3:50pmWe’ve all seen “store mobbing” videos recently. Two things struck me here:
1) No blacks or mexicans in line (or so few that you couldn’t see them), just whites and chinese;
2) Everybody was paying for the merchandize.
Coincidence?

Posted on November 27, 2012 at 11:19amOh!! This is so overly fun and cute!!! The owner is so adorably happy!!! This is so awesome! I wish I lived near that group so I could join in the fun cuz it’s so much fun making people happy!!! These are my kind of people. Oh pooh. Well, I’m so glad there are people out there like this! And I hope people visit that dollar store much more often! I do loads of shopping at a dollar store all the time stocking up. One bottle of children’s Tylenol or Ibuprofen is $6 or more at Walmart or the grocery stores – but at the dollar store you can buy generic with the same or even more ingredients for ONLY ONE DOLLAR! Maxi Pads are $1 instead of the regular $7 – that’s spending only $12 in one shopping trip for the whole year for this type of feminine hygiene. Also children’s mucinex in TEN DOLLARS at Walmart – but is ONLY ONE Dollar at the dollar store for just a generic brand but the same ingredients with the added bonus of cough suppressant. Dollar Tree is great! DollarTree.com if there is not one near you – BUT if you live in NYC then please visit that darling man in the video at his dollar store!! He’s so honestly appreciative and that’s so overly sweet! Again, keep up the fun work!!!

Posted on November 27, 2012 at 11:35amI was not commenting on your particular post, but you are right. Lots of companies are going to go out of business and lots of people will be laid off. I am GLAD! Why? Because I am done. No matter if the dems cheated, the fact is Obozo should not have gotten even 20% of the vote after his last term. Glenn Beck is wrong, Americans are STUPID! We deserve what we are about to get.
I have done my best to secure what I have and we have an escape route to another country if/when needed. I used to be patriotic and I am humbled by the millions of Americans who have shed their blood and gave their lives for what was once a great country. But the fact is there is nothing left to fight for when the vast majority of Americans are too stupid to know what is even going on and who believe all the blatantly false propaganda put out by the leftist media.
I thought we still stood a chance, I thought if we could only educate enough Americans…I changed my mind several Tuesdays ago. I hope they drive this mo-fo off the cliff, I no longer give a rat’s ass.

Posted on November 27, 2012 at 10:56amUpdate : July 2014 : Best Buy, Walmart and Target close all stores under Obozo leadership as Economy continues to spiral out of control. Dollar General, Dollar Tree and other Dollar Stores continue to replace these as these Dollar Stores are all Americans can afford.
Obozo says Economy still looking good and is going FORWARD. Is already coming out with TV ads for the 2016 Election.

Posted on November 27, 2012 at 11:05amPaul, you might want to read through the story first. They didn’t just drop onto the sidewalk then leave when the doors opened. All 100 people actually flooded the store and bought merchandise. Even on the low end of the advertised prices from the outside, that would be a minimum of $59 plus tax coming in (and I expect many of the people here bought more than one item since they were cheap items, after all).
The premise of the story was to bring a new spin on Black Friday, poke fun at the crazies that battle over high-end “circus bread” at the box stores and bring a bit of attention to small businesses, and to have a bit of fun helping on a more local level. that’s 60-100 bucks more in the store than would have been there had they not come at all.
Lighten up and enjoy the story.
