Sandy Victim Promised ‘Immediate Help’ by Obama Speaks Out on Fox News: ‘I’ve Gotten Nothing’

Sandy Victim Donna Vanzant, in Photo With Obama, Explains How She Has Received No Help Roughly a Month Later

On Sunday, TheBlaze reported on Sandy victim Donna Vanzant’s progress in the wake of the storm that left her business with roughly $500,000 in losses.

Vanzant’s case is special, in particular, because in many ways she became the public face of President Obama’s sympathy after the storm. The photo of the two hugging has been prominently featured on the White House website since October 31.

The president personally told Vanzant that she would get help “immediately,” issuing a public statement to the federal government that they were to cut any and all “red tape.”

Still on her own roughly a month later, Vanzant said last week that she’s come to believe President Obama “wasted a lot of people’s time” during his tour.

On Monday Vanzant appeared on Fox News, where she went a step further.

“It’s frustrating for me that that picture is even out there right now,” she said.

When asked how she felt when Obama first arrived, she said:

“I was very excited and felt warmed by the embrace, thinking, ‘This is really gonna happen, I’m going to get the help I need, because you promised that,’ [but] it’s been almost a month now and I’ve gotten no help. [I've] gotten nothing but, ‘No you’re not covered for this, no you’re not covered for that.’”

Vanzant explained that she’s been in the marina business since 1996 and has flood insurance, but because of the way the storm hit– the damage caused more by rising sea levels than torrential rain– her insurance apparently won’t cover it.

She has been offered a loan at 4-6%, she added, but at this point would not be able to make the monthly payment.

“It’s kind of confusing to me, I didn’t expect that. I expected when I was introduced to the director of FEMA, and the president told him to get me immediate help, I thought I was getting help from FEMA itself, not that I would have to go get a loan,” she explained. ”It’s just greatly affected so many people…My family, my employees…”

  Obama got his photo opp and it was so good he got re-elected. Lady you need to back off, he has a lot of golf to catch up on. He made the Guiness Book Of World recordes already by playing the most golf in 4 years as president and is now shooting for the 8 year record held by Bill Clinton.

You see, what Obuma meant by “help” was to ‘help’ her by continuing to destroy her, her family, and the whole U.S. through his Economic Destruction policy. Thus, Obuma didn’t lie to her after all! Not much sympathy here. The rest of the country never cares about tropical storm or hurricane damage in Florida. We are always left to fend for ourselves. If you are white and from the South, forget it in the America that is today, and for the last several years. Probably just another yankee obama voter. God Bless America!!!

  This is such a crock. Listen to this video. This lady, and I feel sorry for her, but this lady’s gripe is with her insurance companies. FEMA – you know FEMA, the government agency that the Republicans are trying to get rid of – does not have the assignment, or the money, to give you money to fix your dock, or repair your building. Does she want the taxpayers of this country to pay to repair and replace her business assets for free? Is that what she thought Obama promised?
  
  If you watch the video, she’s complaining about her unresponsive insurance companies, and the fact that her insurance doesn’t cover all of the damage her company sustained. Watch the the video and listen to her words.
  
  I understand she’s frustrated, but this is not a Communist country. Her problems are between her and her capitalistic insurance company, who are doing their capitalistic best, in order to maximize their profits, of paying her as little as possible and as slowly as possible. That’s capitalism and the profit motive at it’s best, or worst, depending on your perspective.
  
  Sorry lady. As much as I feel for your financial loss, President Obama can’t tell your insurance company to pay you (because America is a capitalistic country). And FEMA’s job is to keep people alive after a disaster, not to rebuild marinas on the taxpayers dime.

Next time it sounds too good to be true, listen closely to that little red flag alert that goes off in your mind. It would have been so very different if the voters had paid attention to the past 4 years of broken promises and not been sucked into looking past the failure to perform in office….but that’s just my opinion.

I am sorry, but I have no sympathy for stupidity–not any longer–as it directly effects me and my family.

You say that your business lost $500,000 in damages and you expected this man to help you? Are you kidding me?! Where have you been the last 4 years? The entire time this man has demonized you and called your success evil and told you that you were too rich and that he wanted to give your money to other people and that you must have trampled someone along the way and you don’t deserve the fruits of your labor. Repeatedly, over and over!

…and you expected him to help you!? Stupid…

Screw FEMA why would I think the government would give me anything just because the weather decided to have an horiffic storm and destroy my business. Life is a gamble and a journey. We sign on for the whole ride. Having someone lie to you is just another kick in the shins I know ,But you are tough! go get ‘em. Don’t waste anymore energy lamenting the lies and disappointment. get on your knees and pray then get on your feet and go to work.You were one of the blessed ones who didn’t have a family member die. God bless you and I am very sorry you have to go through this.

Oh, but she got something. It is called the ‘shaft.’ She got to touch Obama the great community organizer, the first phony President of her country. She got his fake look of sympathy and was included in the photo op. with him. She was one-on-one without being an Islamist, a czar or enemy to this country. She can always sell copies of the picture if she got some of them (I doubt this.) She got a 15 minutes of fame (for whatever that is worth.) It should be a lesson well learned, but I doubt it will.

I’m so sorry for your misfortune, however, what did you all expect from the liar in chief? He was only promising stuff to get elected–no one bothered to ask when, where, or how. All his followers expecting iphones will be waiting until h * l l freezes over for their phone just like storm survivors waiting for assistance.BTW, besides gutting the military, obamy’s plan is to defund FEMA. Don’t expect any obamy help soon.

So for you liberals making fun of Romney for helping with a fund, clothing, and food drive for Sandy victims–at least Romney was a man of action on behalf of others.
