You Won’t Believe What Glenn Beck Did to an Obama Bobblehead During His Show on Tuesday

On Monday, TheBlaze alerted readers to a new painting that depicts Barack Obama as Jesus Christ crucified, adorned with a crown of thorns. The work, entitled “Truth,” is part of a larger exhibit at the Bunker Hill Community College Art Gallery in Boston titled “Artists on the Stump – the Road to the White House 2012.” This, of course, is not the first controversial rendition that has been labeled “artwork,” nor is it the first time President Obama has been likened to Christ, or in general, God.

Now, the creator of “Truth,” Michael D’Antuono, said that his “First Amendment rights should override someone’s hurt feelings” and that “we should celebrate the fact that we live in a country where we are given the freedom to express ourselves.”

After receiving roughly 4,000 angry emails over the painting, D’Antuono also said he respects “their right to express themselves” and hopes they will afford him the same.

With this in mind, Glenn Beck chose to exercise his First Amendment rights and “express himself,” during his Tuesday evening broadcast by featuring a piece of artwork of his own.

At some point, Beck decided that submerging an Obama “bobblehead” doll in “urine” (at first the liquid was thought to be beer, but it was later revealed to be water with food coloring) was necessary to convey his message. He of course realizes this will be controversial and that many will find his use of the Obama figurine to be disrespectful. The idea, for Beck however, is not to be untoward, but through irony, to highlight the hypocrisy of those who would shout in defiance at defacing the image of a sitting U.S. president, but not that of an image so sacred to Christianity — the world’s largest religion. In other words, Beck sought to reveal how he truly adheres to the U.S. Constitution where the Left often does not.

Beck supported D’Antuono’s Constitutional right to create and display his art even if it is considered highly disrespectful to Christianity. The main point Beck hoped to convey through his controversial display with the Obama bobblehead, was to highlight that through the U.S. Constitution, an artist does have the freedom to display whatever his or her heart desires, however offensive that “art” may be to others.

Regarding D’Antuono, Beck previously stated:

“Art is in the eye of the beholder and this guy has a right to do this. I think its offensive. I don’t think its close to reality but whatever floats your boat. I support his right to do exactly that. I agree with him that people who are upset should not trump his right to be able to do it and be able to hang it wherever he wants – as long as its wanted there.”

He went on to cite the U.S. Constitution, saying, “that document [the Constitution] says I can’t stop him, and the spirit of that document is that I shouldn’t try.”

Beck hopes that his Obama display, however outrageous, will underscore how important it is to stand by the Constitution, even if members the Left do not. Liberals who shout in defiance at Beck’s “art” are inconsistent in their adherence to the First Amendment as was made evident when they took to social media to blast Beck relentlessly with as many expletives as they could conjure up. It seems they only wish to uphold freedom of speech when it suits them, and not when it may suit someone else.

Of course, Beck’s “art” is also similar to the infamous anti-Christian photograph titled “Piss Christ,” showing a small plastic crucifix soaked in the artist’s real urine.

Beck’s “artwork” also highlights the hypocrisy of those who rail against disparaging Islam’s Prophet Muhammad. If his image were defaced in the same way as Christ’s has been so many times, the backlash could indeed be deadly and lead to the “artist” in question being pursued by U.S. law enforcement, as was the case for the creators of the YouTube video “Innocence of Muslims (to clarify, the creator of the YouTube video was assailed by law enforcement for criminal activity unrelated to his video, but the backlash and public scrutiny created by his video catalyzed authorities to pursue him).

Beck did reach out to D’Antuono, inviting him on the program to discuss the First Amendment.

“Truth” is set to remain on display until Dec. 15. Beck, meanwhile, is considering putting his latest artwork up for auction (the price tag says $25,000).

Just got home from work and can’t wait to watch it on the re-run. The reviews made me chuckle.

BUT, how anyone can make this man out to be Jesus Christ is beyond me. And I tell ‘ya what… HE’s not the one being crucified these next four years… WE ARE. May God help us all.

  Let me stretch, I haven’t commented in a long time here. Well I thought I would check in on this little site. I have been reading it since it started. But I must say that we are chasing our tails here in this forum. Guys, there are several things that need to be done to stop what is happening and from most important here they are:
  
  1st–Third and fourth political parties must be formed. Both current political parties are corrupt and have infrastructure that will prevent you changing anything. Bush = Obama =Bush = Clinton
  
  2nd–Solve debt problem. Obviously, but its not what you do but the way you do it!!! If we must raise more revenue, then give a choice to “wealthy” to pull a J.P.Morgan and buy something like a treasurey bond with a modest yeild. They don’t lose investment faith and still feel positive/continue to invest. Impose a no higher than 5%, no lower than 3% tax on those below a certain income bracket. Raise revenue and makes them vote with their brain.
  
  3rd–Require civics again in all public schools. Cancel any class that is figuratively art, figuratively mathematics and anything that doesn’t enhance (written, spoken and read) communication, math, real science and basically reinforce the foundations of a free thinking society.
  
  4th–Eliminate all racial holidays, as in months, no race be put on an application for anything and do not require a census (outdated tool used to seperate normal people into demographics). Make all people flattline equal excep

It really is so sad, how we have fallen, as a nation. (Dear Lord Jesus, help us!) But, a “p.s.” to Glenn….I can almost 100% assure you, someone will buy your work of art.   Hahaha. Here’s a prediction: no one will care at all. Frankly, I am not sure what Beck thinks he is proving here with this “artistic” gesture, since even those who might take offense would recognize that this silliness is far less disrespectful than what Beck himself has already said on national TV in all sincerity.
  
  This gesture is rather hollow compared to Beck saying, on the air, that the President hates white people, or that Reform Jews are as bad as Muslim terrorists. Why does Beck think anyone will care about a silly mock art piece that he doesn’t even have the b@lls to use real urine in?

  The funny thing is that you Blazers have the exact opposite response. You all laugh at the idea of Obama in a bottle of pee but are offended at a crucifix in a bottle of pee. So what is the irony Beck is trying to expose? That different people are offended by different things?
  
  You are all offended by the piss Christ but not by images of Mohammed. Islam is one of the world’s largest religions but you all don’t seem find any problem with insulting Muslims. Is that irony? I don’t think so. It is simply the fact that different people with different beliefs react differently.
  
  Also the author tries to intimate that those who disparage Islam will be prosecuted in the US. Really? Look up what the guy who made that video was punished for and you’ll find that it had nothing to do with his video.   G_DFATHER……Actually, when I saw PI$$christ photograph I laughed, I knew instantly whose it was. I met that deviant sumbich in Frisco about 20 yrs ago….He had a much nicer silver and turquoise crucifix in his urine then.

  Thank you for proving my point. Because you have a problem with Islam its belief system, you don’t think there is anything wrong with offending Muslims. However, you are offended when others disparage Christianity and its values. Do you not think that many Muslims and others of different faiths feel similarly towards Christianity as you do towards Islam? Do they not have a right to feel such a way? Do they not have a right to be offended?
  
  You see, there is no irony in the fact that people get offended when things they cherish are degraded. Everyone has different values and gets offended when those values are trashed. You can insult Muslims all you want, but they still have every right to be offended by it, just like you have every right to make those comments while also being offended by the piss Christ.   People are offended by things that offend them – you got that right. But you absolutely completely are missing the point of the whole charade. It was never argued that insulting Christianity is wrong and insulting others is ok. It’s about hypocrisy and bias of those who want to arbitrate politically, legally, or violently. It is about a governemt that would support, financially and otherwise, a piece of “art” that offends a huge segment of society in the name of free speech while openly decrying a piece of “art” determined not by IF it offends, but by WHO it offends. That is wrong.
  
  The entire point is that if ANY of it is ok, then ALL of it is. Again, this is about arbitrators, not parties involved. Persons involved will be bias, but if one side is awarded freedom of speech protection as government sanctioning, so should the other.
  
  Also – the film director was persued as a result of the video. Had it not been a video insulting muslims and gained national attention he may have never been investigated for probation violation. I don’t recall any Jesus bashing videos triggering a federal investigation.

  I’m fairly sure that that was pee. When Glenn put his hands on it he said ohh and it’s still warm, and when he put the lid on the jar it looked like condensation started to form at the very top. If he was just going for the appearance of pee and he put food coloring in water then why bother to heat it up? I think that it was pee and it’s hilarious, good job Glenn!

  @kisses…first of all, most of us aren’t “beck-ites”…most of us use this site as one of MANY that we check out, while we do our homework on what is going on in our country. Second of all, the POTUS HIMSELF has disrespected & mocked the office of the president MORE THAN ONCE…he does not salute the flag, he lies to us constantly, he went on the world apology tour right after he was voted in the first time & he sent a GIFT BACK to one of our allies that had been in the Oval Office for YEARS. That is why the world thinks we’re weak is because of HIM…well, that & the fact that he cut the military. Heck, even our enemies SUPPORTED him for a second term…why would they do that if they’re our enemies? Possibly because he thinks the same about our country as they do? And as for the blind followers that you think we are…did YOU do ANY homework before the election? And if you did…how did you come to the conclusion that b.o. was the best man for the job?   Glenn doesn’t have an education? Maybe not a degree, but you don’t need a degree to be educated. In general, peoples education starts the day they’re conceived and ends when they die. A formal education (schooling) is suppose to give you a good foundation for which to enhance your life long educational experience and to many it does. Some people don’t educate themselves with important or realistic topics or experiences with or without a formal education. Thats why some people seem stupid, kinda like most liberals, but that doesn’t mean they aren’t educated. Glenn is very smart, he is articulate and very successful on top of being entertaining (I say this as an observer, and irrespective of enjoying Glenn). In this society it’s sometimes called being “self made.” There are a lot of dim bulbs in this world. Glenn doesn’t qualify, but godfather.1 sure seems like he does.

When that traitor Dennis Franchione suddenly quit as head coach at Alabama in ’03 after less than one season and moved to Texas A&M. Nothing against Texas or A&M. But, his bobblehead dolls sold out quickly all over this state to become golf club targets.
