Boehner Reaffirms No-Go Tax Stance: ‘We’re Not Raising Rates’
House Speaker John Boehner on Wednesday roundly dismissed a fellow Republican’s proposal to hold off on the fight to extend tax cuts for the wealthiest Americans, declaring, “we’re not raising rates.”
Rep. Tom Cole (R-Okla.), a former chairman of the National Republican Campaign Committee, urged colleagues privately on Tuesday to ensure tax cuts for 98 percent of taxpayers remain in place before the “fiscal cliff” deadline rather than getting bogged down in a battle for the top 2 percent of earners, Politico reported.
Cole called for Republicans to join with President Barack Obama for a quick deal before the year-end deadline that will automatically trigger higher taxes and abrupt spending cuts. Obama, who made letting the George W. Bush-era tax rates expire for the wealthiest Americans a hallmark of his re-election campaign, would essentially be handed a major victory if such a deal came to pass.
Boehner (R-Ohio) said Wednesday he wasn’t having it.
βI told Tom earlier in our conference meeting that I disagreed with him,β Boehner told reporters after a House GOP Conference meeting, The Hill reported. βHeβs a wonderful friend of mine and a great supporter of mine. But raising taxes on the so-called top 2 percent β half of those people are small-business owners that pay their taxes through their personal income tax filing every year. The goal here is to grow the economy and to cut spending.”
He added, βWeβre not going to grow the economy if we raise tax rates on the top two rates. Itβll hurt small businesses. Itβll hurt our economy. Thatβs why itβs not the right approach. Weβll willing to put revenue on the table as long as weβre not raising rates.β
Obama has called for tax rates to go up on individual incomes exceeding $200,000 and on family incomes greater than $250,000.

Posted on November 28, 2012 at 3:53pmBeohner will cave sooner or later. All it will take is for Obummer to promise more federal money to Boehner’s state. Both sides are corrupt. When they start talking about immediate cuts to foreign aid, simplified tax rates, eliminating the IRS, Federal Education department, audit the FED, delay Obamacare for another five years, etc, then withdraw taxes on energy such as gas and oil… you will see real answers for turning this fiscal ship away from the impending iceberg. Anything else is just bull. The problem with our debt is government spending. All the money from the rich today would fund a few days of government operation. Why can;t morons understand this simple math? It’s the spending, not the taxes.

Posted on November 28, 2012 at 5:58pmMORETEA…Obama is a product of leftist thought filtered through racial politics. He believes that government cannot run out of money and when it’s short..just tax the rich guy who has plenty to be taxed for. This will fix everything.
Obama is a dullard on economics he doesn’t even grasp the most basic of economic realities that the more tax payers there are, the more revenue the government gets. By getting more people working he can raise revenue without raising rates on anyone. But he can’t even acknowledge this reality.
The lower tax rates are, the more activity is generated thus promoting more revenue. Take cap gains for instance, Obama wants to nearly double them. Under Bush, revenues from cap gains went up over 100% because the lower rate promoted more activity..people simply trade more when they’re being taxed less because they retain more profit on the trade while generating withholding with each transaction..this generates more revenue. Obama simply cannot grasp this most basic of facts. The man is an idiot.

I would forgive the GOP house and those in the Senate that vote “present” because I’d understand what they’re doing…they’re letting the electorate have what they voted for while expressing their disdain for Obama’s tax rate raising. Posted on November 28, 2012 at 6:35pmGONZO…the house and GOP senate should simply vote “present”. Obama will demagogue this incessantly if they stick to their guns on tax rates. I can forgive them if they vote present because I’ll know what they’re doing and they should announce what they’re doing too. Give Obama everything he wants on tax rates while not cutting spending, just like the democrats want. Let the democrats experience Obama’s own tactic against them and watch them fall.
Then in two years for the midterms with the economy cratered while making it crystal clear that Obama got EVERYTHING he asked for and repeat it over and over…the house and senate will go GOP because they’re “bipartisan and not obstructionist”. At that ponit, budgets will actually be passed and tax rates lowered..bingo..economy improves and the democrats have lost the “same old ideas” talking points they use with such effectiveness. Obama- inflicted- pain is the only way to educate this benighted electorate.

They can vote agaisnt the tax cuts for 98% of Americans and lose their seats over it or give in like htey are going to anyway.
Obama has all the cards in this game. The GOP love power more than principle ( Romney was nominee not because his principles but becasue they thought he coudl win) and will do whatever it takes to stay in power.
