CNN’s Piers Morgan Confronts Rick Warren Over Whether People Are Born Gay or ‘Become Gay’: ‘I Think the Jury’s Still Out on That’

Evangelical mega-pastor Rick Warren appeared on CNN’s “Piers Morgan Tonight” on Tuesday, where a familiar issue was discussed — homosexuality. The television host wasted no time in asking the Christian preacher whether he believes people are born gay or whether they “become gay.”
“You know what, I think the jury’s still out on that. It wouldn’t — it wouldn’t bother me if there was, quote, ‘a gay gene’ found, because here’s what we know about life,” Warren responded. “I have all kinds of natural feelings in my life and it doesn’t necessarily mean that I should act on every feeling. Sometimes I get angry and I feel like punching a guy in the nose. It doesn’t mean I act on it.”
The pastor wasn’t done there, though. He continued, providing another, more applicable example surrounding why one might choose not to act out on same-sex attraction.
“Sometimes I — as you pointed out, sometimes I feel attracted to women who are not my wife. I don’t act on it,” he proclaimed. “Just because I have a feeling doesn’t make it right. Not everything natural is good for me.”
When Warren said that Arsenic is natural, adding to his previous point that not all elements encountered in life are beneficial to human beings, Morgan interrupted. The host made it clear that, unlike Warren, he isn’t open to the possibility that people simply become gay.
“I just believe fundamentally and passionately that gay people are born gay. I don’t think you become gay,” the host said. “And I think if you were able to convince yourself that they were born gay, you would see it differently.”
Morgan told the pastor that he might change his view about gay marriage if he could bring himself to accept the notion that people are born homosexual and that they do not develop same-sex attraction post birth. Following the host’s comments about the legality and rights associated with gay marriage, Warren clarified his stance on sin.
“I do not believe attraction is a sin, but I do believe that some actions are sin. I’m not responsible for all of my attractions,” he explained. We know, for instance, that some people are born with natural predispositions toward certain things, either good or bad. Every one of us have those.”
Warren also told Morgan that he appreciates the conversation, as the debate surrounding gay marriage is essential. He said that such controversial issues should be undertaken and discussed, while treating all parties involved with “dignity” and “love.”

You don’t have to accept their lifestyle.
Nobody is forcing you to tithe, keep the Sabbath holy, honor your mother or father, pray before meals, not use the Lord’s name in vain, etc.
Just because a civil law has roots in a religion does not mean it should be tossed out.
We believe in not stealing, lying, murdering…should these laws also be considered as forcing you to live a religious lifestyle?
If the Left is so science oriented in their rules, homosexuality would not be allowed.
It is illogical, unnatural, unproductive, and creates a sub-par environment for raising happy, healthy, law abiding citizens.

So there is a pedophile gene, how about a bestiality gene? Rick Warren is leading millions straight into hell.

Posted on November 28, 2012 at 1:11pmWarren makes the point as well as I think it can be made: we’re ALL sinners, and we’re ALL called to overcome our sinful nature through Christ.
But there’s a harder and more necessary argument to make about the nature vs. nurture question here.
No one realizes that the nature of the choice implied by the Piers Morgans of the world is apples and oranges different from the kind of choice one makes about sexuality.
For example, I can’t point to a day where it became clear to me that I was choosing to be hetero.
And yet…thoughts I chose to entertain led to actions, actions I chose to make became habits, habits I made became part of my character, and I ended UP with a hetero character. Of COURSE the same process is true for other sexual-identity choices.
Some things DO come down to the black and white choice of a moment, but many things DON’T. Sexuality just happens to be one of those things.

“So, is a bisexual born that way?”
Probably. Personally I think most sexuality is a combination of nature and nurture. I’ve never been attracted to other men, but I know some people who describe themselves as “sex-blind” and are attracted to both sexes. I also know some people who have absolutely no attraction at all to either sex.
I think Warren brings up a good point. Just because we have urges doesn’t mean we have to act on them. Sin requires someone to actively make a choice to do something sinful. A gay person can still remain free from sin by just not acting on their urges; it’s up to them.

Last time … scripture clearly states that the calling up of the saints is at the sound of the 7th TRUMP … this means that through the 7 seals, the 6 trumpets the saints are HERE. By the way from whom did you hear this rapture teaching. I myself believed this false teaching due to “hearing” it. I read … I changed …WHY ? Because it is NOT written! In fact the final blow was in reading a book about it from Tim Laye.
Jesus did NOT excape trouble… in fact scripture says he learned in His suffering
Jesus, in His prayer in John 17 DOES NOT pray for the saints to escape trouble, quite the opposite. He prays for them to perservere THROUGH it. THIS PRAYER IS GOOD UNTIL HIS RETURN, and was meant to be understood as such.

Please post an instance where you’re being forced to “accept their (Christian) lifestyle as normal and we shouldn’t be forced to.”
Just as liberals/progressives have every right to further their wants and desires through the political system, why should Christians be denied that same right? Yes, we believe that abortion is abhorrent and Roe v. Wade should be reversed. We believe that marriage should be between one man and one woman. No one in my orbit has ever suggested that there be legislation on “love.” People should be able to do what they choose so long as they don’t trample on the rights of someone else.
There’s a suit pending filed by two lesbians who are demanding that a farm somewhere that permits marriages on its property to force them to marry them on that property. THIS is what we fear. That soon churches will be forced to perform same-sex marriages. Do you think churches should be forced to perform same-sex ceremonies?

Ok let me say it like this. If one has Hebraic studies then one knows that the Hebraic term used on Christ applies to an ancient Hebraic harvest custom
That term is ‘FIRST FRUIT’
The first fruits are marked out by the farmer because they are early ripening. He then harvests the 1st fruits and takes them to the high priest and the high priest makes a wave offering before God with the first fruits
That is stage one of the resurrection/rapture and it is complete.
The next stage is the general harvest. That is about to take place.
Last is the four corners gleanings
One harvest, three stages, at three separate times. Even though Christ was resurrected 2000 years ago, He is the FIRST FRUIT of the resurrection/rapture.

For the time is come that judgment must begin at the house of God: and if it first begin at us, what shall the end be of them that obey not the gospel of God?
If the judgement starts with the family of God that means it is pre trib
Also, this is the judgement spoken of
1 Cor 3:12-15
Now if any man build upon this foundation gold, silver, precious stones, wood, hay, stubble; 13Every man’s work shall be made manifest: for the day shall declare it, because it shall be revealed by fire; and the fire shall try every man’s work of what sort it is. 14If any man’s work abide which he hath built thereupon, he shall receive a reward. 15If any man’s work shall be burned, he shall suffer loss: but he himself shall be saved; yet so as by fire.
2 Cor 5:10
For we must all appear before the judgment seat of Christ; that every one may receive the things done in his body, according to that he hath done, whether it be good or bad.
This is the beginning of the house of God being judged but it is not for salvation but of works/rewards/loss of rewards
the 7 year tribulation is for the salvation of the Jewish nation it is not for the church. All believers will be taken, some to great rewards, other that lose everything except for salvation.

Posted on November 28, 2012 at 9:00amAs someone who was targeted by a gay teacher and “his lovers” I can tell you that, from my experience, they look for the outcasts, the different and the naive. One particular person in that group knew girls of low reputation. Gee, go figure. He sent them to me to see if I was going to have sex with any of them. I wound up refusing them all. When that occurred, that is when he “made his move”. Needless to say he was quite surprised to find out that I was quite STRAIGHT. When he copped to what his motives were, I told him I am a born again Christian and I don’t have sex with any girl period. Sorry to burst any bubbles here but people are seduced into that or any lifestyle that is against God’s order. Illicit sex, whether hetero or ****, is still sin in the eyes of God. The Bible teaches ….the wages of sin is death, spiritual death, which means separation from God. So God did not create a “sub-species” of humans born to be “gay”. Because if He did that, He would have created a people group that could never be saved, which is against God’s very nature. John 3:16 For god so loved the world that He gave His only begotten son that WHOSOEVER believes on Him will have everlasting life.
So to the mega-pastor I say to you….your jusry may be out but God in His word has already made the decision. You just need the spine to stand up to people like Peirs Morgan and speak the truth in AGAPE love. Anything less is compromise with the world.

We can pick either one, but the wrong choices wear us down, until we don’t care, r at least don’t hear anymore. Suddenly we are separate from our Creator, and to me that is a death. It leaves a big hole in the center of me, that the winds blows through. God calls us to build a strong spiritual character that is as close to sinless as we can become as human’s, but sadly because we are human we will always fall far short of his perfection. All sin is the same, it is separation from a loving God, but he offers us his Grace.

Posted on November 28, 2012 at 4:20pmVery well put. And we know that God wishes none of his children to be lost. Being “a good person” is not enough to gain heaven as Jesus said that “Not all who utter Lord, Lord will enter the kingdom”. I know some very upstanding, moral, hardworking and honest atheists. Can they expect to go to heaven? No, because God and his ways are foreign to them. Jesus was born, suffered, died and rose from the dead to raise us ABOVE our base human nature, to give us an opportunity to turn to Him and plead for his grace so that we could have a supernatural end. It’s too bad that Warren didn’t use the example of sociopaths who are considered to be “born that way”, or children who murder at a young age whose foundation to do so is unknown. God’s law = natural law. I cannot think of many actions more unnatural than homosexuality.

Posted on November 28, 2012 at 8:23pm@DeniseR55′ there are certain sins that cry out to the Lord for vengeance & homosexual activity is one. “Then the Lord said, ‘Because the outcry against Sodom and Gomorrah is great and their sin is very grave, I will go down to see whether they have done altogether according to the outcry which has come to me.’” (Gn 18:20-21) So saying, “it’s about spiritual health, not human sin” is scandalous because it leads people astray. Four sins really are worse than others: willful murder (“the blood of Abel” Gn 4); the sin of Sodom/homosexual activity, (Gn 18 & 19); oppression of the poor, widows & orphans (see Ex 22, Isaiah & other prophets); & withholding the pay of a laborer (Dt 24 & Jas 5). Yes, we will sin & need forgiveness many times. But, not every sin will totally separate us from God unless we repent. Homosexual activity will.
Rick Warren’s teaching omits the sins that cry out to God. From what I know of him, he wants to be nice. Nice is foolish. (That’s what the word nice means, ne = not + scire = to know: not to know; ignorant; foolish.) His teaching is foolish because by it, he’s leading people to hell. A gay gene may or may not be found. It makes no difference. As a pastor, his job is to teach the truth as revealed by God & that includes those parts of Scripture that tell us homosexual activity is a deadly sin (see Exodus, Romans, etc.). Jesus spoke about those who scandalize others; the results weren’t pleasant for them either.

Posted on November 28, 2012 at 9:00amYour lifestyle is what you choose it to be. If you decide you want to live the life of a homosexual, then you have decided how you are going to live your life. Decisions have consequences in life. By deciding to live a homosexual lifestyle, you forgo certain things you would have been able to do living a normal lifestyle. You think that these things are being denied you because people are as you say homophobic? No, you chose to life your life the way you want to, so take the consequences that go with that choice.

Is it “forcing people to conform” to try and convince people NOT to try and kill themselves? Homosexuality comes with a TON of very negative side effects. High depression, suicide, IV drug use rates. SEVENTEEN TIMES more likely to sexually abuse children. They account for over 70% of ALL new HIV cases and have 5 times the STD rates as heteros. Posted on November 28, 2012 at 4:05pmAs far as there being a “Gay ” gene, I seriously doubt that such exists.
The real reasons that some people become gay are a combination of factors so complicated that no one can figure them out. Some children display odd behavior and dress preferences from an early age. Why? Who knows. What trauma or influences occured in utero? What factors during childhood influenced the choice? Who might have misguided a child into the gay lifestyle? Why, when exposed to the same events and influences, do some become gay while others don’t? The questions are so profound and varied that nobody will ever be able to answer them. No Psychiartrist will ever be able to understand all the quirks of the human mind.
Oh, and by the way, about 20 or 30myears ago, someone ran an experiment using a number of male rats in a cramped and confined space over a period of time. After several months, some, not all, but some of the rats began to show homosexual behavior. WHY? What was the trigger?

You don’t have to agree with their decisions, but you have no right to deny them their choice.

Posted on November 28, 2012 at 8:57amThe bible says that even Jesus who was every bit God and man when he walked this earth dealt with temptation, but sin not. Rick needs to stay off these shows, he is so weak as one who is suppose to be an ambassador of God. Point, he let Peirs get away with that “hide behind” comment. Neither one of them acknowledge that God is the one who is calling the shot. Gay gene, no Gay gene is a Strawaman, God made it clear that homosexually is a sin, for Rick he should proclaim it and end of story. Instead he gets up there and starts parsing the Truth, that’s what lawyers do, not bible believing, Holy Spirit convicted men of God! Truth is there is no such thing as Gay people, it is people who are gay; or to be more exact people who engage in homosexuality, a deviant nature. The question isn’t weather or not there is a gay gene, but rather is there a gene that enhances deviancy; answer is yes. Is there a bi-sexual gene, is there a pedophile gene, is there a fornication gene, is there a bestiality gene; see where stuff like this leads. All of those deviant sexual attractions can be sum up as sin and the bible makes if clear that man has a sin nature; Rick are you listening?

I agree also … I have listened to Rick before and he is much better spoken then this. I believe that, and he himself alluded to it, these guys attempt to come across as “civil” and able to “discuss” the matter like buddies ( my word). In doing this they lose the power of the Holy Spirit and the authority that comes from Him. They speak their own words instead of doing what scripture tells us to do … ” to not worry about what to say for the Holy Spirit will give the words to you.” There is no place for being rude or self-righteously arogant. Posted on November 28, 2012 at 12:21pmIf you’re talking about what constitute a sin, well I have to tell you that Jesus said that even our thoughts, what we secretly wish (another man’s woman, violence, adultery etc) are sin. Now if sin, no matter what made it a sin is still that (a sin) we are all in the same boat. We need to recognise that Jesus die for any one who can understand that without Him, we are nothing. This pastor contradict himself saying that there’s a difference between thinking in something and doing it. In Jesus eyes is the same. Jesus also said that He only have the authority to judge, but He not came to this world to judge us but to gave us live. Christian people, stop taking roles that were not given to us. We are sinners. Not better nor worse, we are equally sinners. Don’t act like self righteous holy people. Yes every one of us is going to be judged, but if you don’t practice mercy don’t expect the same.

Posted on November 28, 2012 at 12:41pmThe “gay” gene…
When Adam sinned, apparently something happened to the genetic structure of mankind that would give us a propensity to sin and cause us to eventually die.
The Bible also tells us that sins can be passed from one generation to the next…how is that possible???…What is it that parents pass from one generation to the next???…Genetic information.
It doesn’t surprise me at all that there may be a “gay” gene. If we fully understood genetic code we may also be able to identify a “thief” gene or a “liar” gene. One geneticist already thinks he has found a God gene.
The bottom line is this…if you choose to subscribe to the Christian faith; homosexual behavior is completely off the table. The unbelieving world is throwing everything they can at Christians in an effort to try to get us to cave on this issue…
Don’t fall for it.

Posted on November 28, 2012 at 2:48pmExcellent reply. It is all about choices. We know what God says. He said it in both the Old and New Testament. As you said Jesus was tempted many times, but he didn’t fall prey to the temptation. If you’re gay, it’s because you made a choice. No one is going to hate them for it — it is their CHOICE, but please don’t yell about tolerance, gay genes and the rest of the excuses gays manage to make for their lifestyles. And, why do they even make excuses? Just be gay and go on about your business and let the rest of the world made their choices.

Urges are not sin; acting on improper ones is. Do you some how think homosexuality is a special sin different than many forms of heterosexual sin? It’s not. The problem is people trying to say its not a sin. They’ve tried to do it with living together with someone you’re not married too. It’s still a sin too.

If you are responding to me…I don’t believe it is ignorance at all…
Perhaps you don’t understand what I am saying…I am not saying that God created anyone with a “gay” gene or with any other “un-natural” genetic disposition. What I am saying is this… could it be possible that sinful behavior leaves an imprint on us in a negative way genetically and that it may be possible that we pass those traits on to our descendants. I have an adopted child since he was 3 months old and at 18 years of age he met his biological father and it turns out that he is exactly like him behaviorally in every way. How is that possible? Did you know that if you have used drugs an eye doctor can see the physical results during an eye examination or that your **** follicles tell a similar story concerning the history of your drug usage. What if sin in general somehow leaves a mark on us genetically and we are then in turn able to pass those propensities (sins) on to our children just like the Bible says.
The Bible tells us that mankind was created by God in a state of perfection and in that condition we should have never experienced death by natural causes, but when sin entered into man it has brought with it sickness, diseases, and a host of other destructive repercussions, many of which can be identified in the genetic code. But again…this is not anything that God gave us or created us with…it is the result of our own choices and just maybe they manifes

Posted on November 28, 2012 at 8:52amRick Warren has used so many different Bible perversions that he doesn’t know (or can’t handle) the truth. What does he even mean that the “jury is still out” – is he saying that “sodomites” (that is what God calls them) are on trial? Who is the judge to make the final decision on whether they are born that way? No, let God be true and every man a liar (Rick Warren and myself). The Bible says that “sodomy” is an abomination before God. Rick Warren says that he is not responsible for his attraction to other women. Wrong again Rick – Jesus says (paraphrase) – “do not commit adultery” but I say “those that lust” have committed the same sin. The issue is not the “act” nor the “attraction” – both are “sins” and both need to be confessed. The reason true Christians speak out against Rick Warren is because they hold him as “head spokesman” for Christianity. We are told to warn of such that “pervert the gospel of Jesus Christ”.

No one asks for the feelings, but many things result in how a person acts on them. Having lots of “gays” around and being told to have same sex relations does not help a young person figure it all out. Love from others and good friends will help a person deal with it.

However, he is a little weak in his responce here. We are ALL born sinful … we are told to overcome .. to kill the sin that hinders … to bring EVERY thought captive.
Being born this way or that way is not the issue … how one dies is what is important.
There is a homosexual agenda that is powerful and world wide and does as Mr. Morgan did here, and that is to make the Pastor look like the less compassionate. He did this by saying … ” if only you could see that they are born that way.” In other words … come on Rick, get with the program, you are so limited in your thinking.
In the days comming those who are “straight” will be looked apon as those BORN with some genes missing and therefore lacking true humanity.

My daughter did a paper in college supporting homosexual unions (I don’t say ‘gay marriage’)
She told me it was easier to argue ‘for’ unions than ‘against’ them because the Bible is not allowed to be used as a source.
No wonder the Left wants all kids to go to college, they can then “mold them to closer to their hearts desire”.

So what does he do? He woos a girl who he has no intention of getting into a serious relationship with, porks here & then dumps her. Often they seem to be different than the norm of the gender. Having said that, I know that there are those who over act the “gay”. When they are “over the top” . . . or “flaming”, . . . it may be a good bet that they are not being sincere.

Homosexuality is not normal – put it is part of the agenda to drive this culture in a direction designed to destroy it.
Part of the Agenda of the Communist Party: · Congressional Record–Appendix, pp. A34-A35
January 10, 1963
Current Communist Goals
26. Present homosexuality, degeneracy and promiscuity as “normal, natural, healthy.”
40. Discredit the family as an institution. Encourage promiscuity and easy divorce.
41. Emphasize the need to raise children away from the negative influence of parents. Attribute prejudices, mental blocks and retarding of children to suppressive influence of parents.
The goal of Marxist, Fabians, The Frankfurt School and Antonio Gramsci was to take a Judeo/Christian culture down from within and use the church as one of the main instruments of its destruction:
27.Infiltrate the churches and replace revealed religion with “social” religion. Discredit the Bible and emphasize the need for intellectual maturity which does not need a “religious crutch.”
28. Eliminate prayer or any phase of religious expression in the schools on the ground that it violates the principle of “separation of church and state”

Oh and if people are born gay then why does God consider homosexuality a sin? I believe the pastor hit the nail on the head. It starts as a temptation attraction created by Satan. Just as the temptation to cheat on a spouse is a temptation by Satan. No different. The problem is Satan has been using everything at his disposal to make people accept these things. He has to bring the world down to his level. God already destroyed to Sodom and Gamorrah for sinking into such depravity and the scriptures prophecy the same for the world. And we are headed there my friends. Turn to Christ and you shall be saved.

Posted on November 28, 2012 at 8:26amI hate that the way we give so much spotlight to gays as if they represent 75% of the population! Let’s just ask anyone who is gay if they rather live in Amerika or iran.

Posted on November 28, 2012 at 8:23amHere in WA State they really believe they are born as homosexuals. They say the debate is over. LOL
I wish I could bail out of here but I have family to protect from media and the school system. This state is at the end of the down hill slide and will be the first to go street crazy.

Posted on November 28, 2012 at 8:44amAs a native Oregonian ran into the same myth. So I came up with a question that usually silences them, “So if someone is born gay because they have sexual desires for their own gender then are pedophiles born their way? Or are you a pedophobe?”
I joined the Navy to get out. And I did! I do miss OR but I don’t think I’ll move back.

Posted on November 28, 2012 at 10:08amI know a lot of gay men. They are the majority in the industry in which I work. I am the minority at any given time in any given venue as far as males go. My own personal observation is that some “gay” men have a proclivity toward that type behavior and some don’t. The ones that don’t are the ones that don’t go around waving the rainbow flag and keep their personal life to themselves. The ones that do are the naked ones with the leather chaps on outside in a street parade and they always talk about their sexual experiences and usually very loudly.
Personally I know a couple of guys that seem to be trapped in the gay lifestyle. I actually don’t think they are “gay”. I think they think they either can’t get out of it or maybe they won’t get out it. They are both very nice guys. They are the ones that “pass”. You know the “straight acting” types. I have great gaydar. I’ve been around gay guys so much I can tell one from 80 paces. I mean even the biggest buffest guys that think they are passing.
I’ll tell everyone a secret on how to tell. Look at the eyes. Look at what the suspected guy is looking at. You have to get good at this because guys, gay or straight, check each other out all the time. Go to any gym. You’ll see what I mean. Gay guys linger too long and they definitely linger on the crotch area way too long. Straight guys will do the quick peek, usually standing in plain sight of the other guy. Gay guys get in secluded areas and use the mirrors…a

“I joined the Navy to get out.”
Oh, delicious irony. Joined the Navy to escape homosexuals.
