Romney and Obama to Meet Privately on Thursday

WASHINGTON (AP) — The White House says President Barack Obama will meet privately Thursday with his vanquished rival Mitt Romney, their first face-to-face encounter since the election.

Obama promised in his victory speech on Nov. 6 to engage with Romney and consider his ideas.

The meeting comes as Obama and congressional Republicans negotiate a way out of automatic tax increases and deep spending cuts that have come to be known as the fiscal cliff.

Obama and Romney differed sharply during the campaign on how revive the economy. Obama called for higher taxes on the rich. Romney called for lower taxes on all.

The White House says the two men will meet in the White House’s private dining room. There will be no press coverage.

Yeah, good point NaughtyCal. If Romney helps Obama it will only make democrats look better, which, in the long run, would be disastrous for our country. Also, since it is behind closed doors it won’t make Republicans look any better. The Democrats are essentially trying to steal our good ideas. If I were Mitt I would go in and intentionally sabotage Obama.

Romney is a fool to meet with the liar in chief. There is nothing to be gained from the meeting. Unless (?) Romney is going to help him push the tax the rich ($250,000 income earners) scheme. Romney and the Liar in Chief were close to being on the same page on taxes. Romney”s class warfare tactic regarding taxes with his support to eliminate deductions, loopholes (perpetuated the lie as there are NO loopholes, just legal deductions), those rich people making over $250000 are not hurting, and keeping rates the same is one reason I voted Libertarian this year.

The liar in chief is no fool. He is in 100% campaign mode to increase taxes and not reduce spending and will stop at nothing to do just that. I can not say the same for Romney.

    Two possibilities:

    1. Obama knows he has no idea what he’s doing and is desperate for help

    or

    2. Obama knows exactly what he’s doing, he’s framing Romney for what happens if the economy plummets come January. He’ll point finger at Romney and say “I did what he said, see, he’s bad! The right is bad! Blame them! Burn down their houses! They hate you!”

Or 3. A photo op to appear bi-partisan and above Washington politics while pushing “hose the rich” behind the scenes. It begins and ends at that one meeting/photo op which is usually the way things go with Obama. For instance hugging that woman in New Jersey and telling her he’ll make sure she gets everything she needs..and never doing so. The media is an important aspect of this…they report the photo op and never the follow up.

My bet is a mixture of 1 and 3. Obama clearly is clueless on even basic economics and is desperate for functionable ideas the state of unemployment and the economy is testament to that. And Romney has a reputation for coming in and fixing bad fiscal situations, he knows his stuff. So the man “you can’t trust” according to Obama’s campaign is suddenly the man you can trust.

This is a game the Republicans cannot win. As long as the majority of the American public get their news from late-night comedians and buy into the left’s spin this will be a never-ending game of making the democrat party the martyr to the right’s villain.

As much as it will suck for this country’s future, I believe the only solution at this point is to wash our hands of the whole thing and let the left have their way. Let them drive it off the cliff. Maybe then the 40% of involved, freedom-loving Americans can pick up the pieces and start again.

Probably not…But I see no other options here. Personally, I am done. I don’t even care anymore. I am older and will tolerate whatever happens. 1. He’s in over his head.

Barry’s intent is to keep the economy in the toilet. If the economy improves, there will be less people dependant upon govt. programs which is in complete contradiction of the plan. Barry (and any good Democrat) must keep govt. dependence high in order to keep their voters in line. If the economy improves and people can take care of themselves, Barry loses votes. Its not that difficult to understand. He has no incentive or intent to fix the economy.

The Republican party is now dead but yet it has joined forces with the Democrats in killing America? Which is it?

The Republican party has serious problems. It is far from dead. But I pretty much agree with the rest of what you have to say. The problem is, there is no fix. Do you really believe a third party would gain any traction? How much of the vote did Gary Johnson get? If you voted for him it was a wasted vote. Did it get Obama re-elected? No…American stupidity…or at least ignorance got Obama re-elected. THAT is the problem. Even if the Dems cheated, which I am sure they did, it did not amount to more than 5% of the vote (being seriously generous) in key battleground states. Obama should not have gotten over 20% of the popular vote! As a free country…we are done! There is no one to blame but the people themselves.

The Constitution Party is nothing of the sort. I’ve had lengthy discussions with many of their leaders in Ohio and they seem more akin to The Theocracy Party than the Constitution Party. They tend to pick and choose what portions of the Constitution are relevant.

They’re a hell of a sight better than the GOP or the Dems, but they’re not really concerned about the Constitution except for a few key issues (firearms mainly).

Ghost and Fish…You are both right in your own ways. It is a sad state when we have to vote according to party lines instead of voting for the character of the person running. Third parties have never succeeded and probably never will. The PROBLEM is the indifference of the average citizen. The term “ignorant voter” does not even begin to describe what we are dealing with. Has this always been the case? I suspect in times past people had less information available, especially in agrarian areas, but the people were better informed and issues were clearer. In our age of the 24/7 news cycle spin has won the day. People have too much information and opinions available and are not informed enough or interested enough to drill down to the true facts.

Is there a solution? Not until people are FORCED to wake up and start thinking these issues through themselves rather than relying on what Jon Stewart, Bill Maher, and MSNBC think. Until we can put aside our own interests for the interests of the country we are doomed. Maybe it was meant to be that way? I believe in God and I believe the Christian Bible. This is no surprise to those that do. Is it too late for America? Who knows…But things MUST change for our freedom to survive.

Obama is only going to do this for political gains it will win him. I imagine he will make barely concealed threats to Romney of “say nothing against me or your family will come to harm.”

Once the “meeting” concludes Romney and BHO will swing by the local theater to enjoy the premiere of “Life of Pie” over a soda pop and a fresh unsalted bag of popcorn ….

The two parties are one and the same.

Romney is going to grovel at the altar of Allah.

This post has nothing to do with the story.

The electoral college has yet to met and cast their votes. That is the last chance for Obie to outed. Pray the electoral college does not vote along party lines.

The electoral college is meaningless. The Constitution is meaningless. Congress is meaningless.

Face it, we are in for a long, long, Dark Age of Islam where American dhimmis in Washington, DC do the bidding of the House of Saud.

Quite true actually. It was no secret during the primaries that Romney is, was and will always be a Leftist. We’re supposed to be blind to his actions and votes in Massachusetts now?

GHOST, I typically agree with your comments; however, if you sincerely believe Romney and the Kenyan are the same, you are blind. I would expect the old “they are the same” argument from SOYBURGER, but not from a rational thinker.

Not the same, rather, similar. As the saying goes, there’s more than one road to Rome. The goals are not “collapse the economy”, that’s rather the means to the ends of “establish a permanent ruling elite and reduce Western civilization back to the status of Master-Serf”. How the Dems or GOP wish to get there are, of course, where they “debate” lay between the two supposedly different parties. In my opinion.

Do you sincerely assert that Romney’s goal is/was to ““establish a permanent ruling elite and reduce Western civilization back to the status of Master-Serf”? Are you serious?

All of that Divide the Dumb Conservatives talk sure worked out swell for America. Too bad these young dudes didn’t study history on their own. That old ” United we stand; divided we fall” philosophy would have come in handy to avoid being played like a fiddle by the crafty Left.

Don’t do it…. DO NOT OFFER HIM ONE CRUMB. Let him fail miserably on his own. He deserves every failure he gets. He’ll have someone else to blame if it doesn’t work out as fast or as well as he wants.

Pretty sad to see America go down the tubes.

Right: Agree. Time for some of the Tough Love on these Far Lefties. Sad for America, though.
