Be Glad You Don’t Live in These 10 U.S. Cities With the Highest Unemployment

(TheBlaze/AP) — Unemployment rates declined last month in more than half of the 372 largest U.S. cities, however, some cities are still struggling to shake shockingly high unemployment rates. For example, Yuma, Ariz. currently has the highest unemployment rate in the country at 29.8 percent. Yuma has a population of roughly 95,000 people.

The Labor Department says rates fell in 201 metro areas. They rose in 116 and were unchanged in 55. The number of cities with unemployment below 7 percent rose to 180 last month, up from 107 a year ago.

If you want to know how well far-left, progressive policies work, consider this: Eight of the ten cities with the highest unemployment rates are located in California, a leftist “utopia.”

Here are the 10 cities with the highest unemployment as of Oct. 2012:

  1. Yuma, Ariz. 29.8
  2. El Centro, Calif. 28.1
  3. Yuba City, Calif. 15.3
  4. Merced, Calif. 14.7
  5. Visalia-Porterville, Calif. 14.4
  6. Modesto, Calif. 13.9
  7. Fresno, Calif. 13.9
  8. Hanford-Corcoran, Calif. 13.9
  9. Stockton, Calif. 13.6
  10. Vineland-Millville-Bridgeton, N.J. 13.3

Lowest unemployment rates as of Oct. 2012:

  1. Bismarck, N.D. 2.2
  2. Fargo, N.D. 2.8
  3. Grand Forks, N.D. 3.1
  4. Lincoln, Neb. 3.2
  5. Midland, Texas 3.3
  6. Iowa City, Iowa 3.4
  7. Ames, Iowa 3.4
  8. Sioux Falls, S.D. 3.7
  9. Burlington-South Burlington, Vt. 3.8
  10. Logan, Utah 3.8

This all started when Obama approved shutting the water off for Central Valley farms displacing thousands of workers. The effect caused a ripple through California’s economy that they haven’t even started to cope with. So the poor are pouring across the border and Yuma is becoming a refugee camp for survivors of the liberal’s and union’s war on the poor. Just as Arizona was recovering from the illegal alien invasion, it has to cope with this.

I believe that started long before Obama took office. The groundwork for the shutoff was laid in the regs passed to flesh out the Endangered Species Act and the court cases that followed. Not to mention California’s laws. It never ceases to amaze me that the cities’ desire for fake lakes and swimming pools always trump agriculture.

One through nine on the worst list are cities over run by illegals. We live near 3 of them and it is very easy for employers to hire someone here illegally because they will work for pennies on the dollar. So kids like mine can’t get a entry level job because there is a non citizen getting all those jobs. In face you go to a clinic for care 90% are illegals and you wait for HOURS to be seen.

Don’t forget the Democrats also now enjoy a super majority both both the house and state senate(in CA). Surely without any partisan politics getting in the way they will be able to turn this state around. Of course, I’m not waiting around to find out. My exit plan is in place……

How can California be on this list at all?

It’s been run by Democrats since Christ was a child….this place should be flourishing.

Obviously the Republicans have sabotaged the state somehow.

It certainly can’t be Pelosi and her ilk that are responsible for this. I suspect we will find out that it is all Bush’s fault.

The main issue with unemployment in Yuma, AZ & El Centro, AZ is the dominant industry in these towns is produce. Many of the jobs are seasonal during the winter, then they move north to Salinas. I used to work in Yuma and can tell you what happens is since the labor force is seasonal many employers lay off their employees until the new season. Top that off with produce companies and growers going under it does not leave much there for employment. I also used to live in Fresno and it does not surprise me they are on the list. Fresno is also a heavy produce (as is with most central valley cities) as well as it does not have many major companies that are based out of Fresno so the job pool is very low. Most of the central valley is conservative and they do not believe in what Obuma or the libertards in CA are doing, but unfortunately they are stuck with it. I am soooooo glad to be out of California!!!

Obama’s plan is working perfectly. Collapse the country with excessive debt and high unemployment, create dependency on the government, then close the trap.
Question #1: What did Stalin, Pol Pot, Hitler, Mao, and several others do with the disenfranchised when they came to power?
Question #2: Do you think that it wont happen here?
      Question #3: Really?

No, the fact that you can see and understand the connection between Progressive Liberalism and economic failure means prevents you from ever being a liberal. Liberals believe that conservative areas that are succeeding MUST be doing something illegal or unethical precisely because they can NOT understand that their policies discourage success and encourage failure. When faced with stark reality, liberals always retreat into fairyland.

Of course, if you were to become a liberal you’d also need to get a lobotomy.
