Believe It or Not, This Is an Illusion: The Most Mind-Blowing Thing You’ll See All Day
An artist going by “Brusspup” on Facebook and YouTube has released a video so epic it has more than 2.7 million hits within one day of posting.
We can’t even go any further without giving you a glimpse of what the hype is all about in the video. Here are a couple screenshots.

Yeah. This is a flat piece of paper. So how is it that the Rubiks cube, well, cube-shaped at one moment and stretched when the page is twisted? It’s called an anamorphic illusion.
Watch Brusspup’s full video to see his other mind-blowing illusions of a roll of tape and a canvas shoe:
Peta Pixel explained that Brusspup “photographed a few random objects resting on a piece of paper (e.g. a Rubiks cube, a roll of tape, and a shoe), skewed them, printed them out as high-resolution prints, and then photographed them at an angle to make the prints look just like the original objects.”
He so kindly provided high-resolution files of these images so you can try it out yourself too. Here are the files for shoe, painter’s tape and Rubiks cube.
In a post earlier this year about anamorphosis, io9 wrote that it originated as a painting technique. The illusion is one that allows the image appear in the appropriate perspective when viewed from one angle — all other angles look distorted. Check out io9′s full article for a more comprehensive read on the technique and its history.

Posted on November 29, 2012 at 6:14pmThe 3D objects and the 2D pictures are being swapped with some video editting when the camera zooms in. There are several points when the objects in the back go behind the object in the front. Still looks cool.

Video editing? Jesus man you can print out the separate files and do the illusion yourself. If anyone can do it, why use video trickery?
I just don’t get some people who can’t even trust their own eyes.

It’s been done before and you need to do a multiple layers of manipulation in order to get the desired effect that’s only veiwable through the lense of a camera. Not that impressive.

Seems like you’re the one making a big deal out of a litlte thing and needs to relax a little.

Posted on November 30, 2012 at 1:24amTrue, it is nothing new. It has had a fancy art name “trompe l’oeil” — French for “deceive the eye” (I’m sure that Beck knows that in light of his position in the art world) for a long time. No idea why a new name is being cooked up.
Still — I think it is very neat and I am glad to have seen it.

@TEDDYC73 Yes, the headlines on this site are ATROCIOUS, and I’m on “their” side! Journalism 101: effective headlines should be accurate, concise, and contain an active verb. These headlines are teasers, meant to pique your interest by puzzling you. I don’t like this “side show” approach, and I wish they’d improve their act.

“It’s fake at least for the first few seconds of the video. Pause the video at .05 seconds. There is a reflection on the table. How would a piece of paper cause a reflection?”
The reflections were the real items. The artist took photos of the objects first; the objects which were shown in the opening sequence of the video. The article describes the method with “Peta Pixel explained that Brusspup ‘photographed a few random objects resting on a piece of paper (e.g. a Rubiks cube, a roll of tape, and a shoe), skewed them, printed them out as high-resolution prints, and then photographed them at an angle to make the prints look just like the original objects.’”

I guess the “teaser” headline of the story led you to believe it was about Benghazi? If so you couldn’t handle hard hitting news since you get easily duped by pictures of colorful cubes relating to world events.

Did you just watch the video and didn’t read the article? He took photographs of these objects on the desk and used an image editor to “skew” the image before printing them out to create the illusion.
The video is a presentation of one type of anamorphic illusion – not a magic trick!
