Boehner: I’m Not Sure Dems are Taking This ‘Fiscal Cliff’ Thing Very Seriously

House Speaker John Boehner (R-Ohio) after a meeting with Secretary of the Treasury Timothy Geithner on Thursday warned that the U.S. is in “real danger” of going over the “fiscal cliff,” a combination of tax increases and spending cuts that will go into effect next year unless Congress comes up with a budget deal.

Boehner called the current budget deal “way out of balance” and challenged Democrats to publicly state which cuts they’d support.

“Revenue is only on the table if there are serious spending cuts that are part of this agreement,” said Rep. Boehner.

The Speaker added that he is “disappointed” in the lack of progress being made and said that it’s time for the White House to “get serious.”

“No substantive progress has been made between the White House and the House in the last two weeks,” he said.

Oh but no, he had to have 150 secret service agents three weeks in advance. Romney refused to even suggest what cuts he’d make during the campaign, except a reference to PBS and Planned Parenthood. Why? Because he knows – Republicans know – Americans don’t want Medicare and Social Security cuts.

Despite all the rhetoric, Republicans aren’t about to propose any solutions.

      @Meteors,

I think you are right. However, it should be pointed out that Americans are dumb as posts. Medicare and Social Security are insolvent. The only way they exist is that we print money which is stealing from the very people getting the entitlements or that we take it from future generations…their children, grandchildren.

So if we accept that they don’t want it to go away we then have to either accept that they are too collectively stupid to really understand what that means or that they are collectively selfish and morally flawed to care.

Which do you suppose that is?

@TheWhite, Defaulting and declaring the debt unpayable is something other countries have done in the past. There is a good chance it might cause war. I believe the Philippines did this at one point. It ruined their credit and harmed their currency but it is something we might consider when paying the interest because worse than defaulting on the entire principle .

Meh, the only capital we really have is our military. If you’re going to default go all in. Others want their money then let them come and take it. Sad fact is that we’d simply owe it to ourselves. The Fed buys 75% of the debt anyway. Agencies swapping debt makes a big part too. We’d just be unable to print more going forward…doesn’t seem like such a bad deal does it?

I did some research into what you are describing a few months back.

Here’s what’s happening. Using words such as “concerned”, and “disappointed” are diplomatic words which always under-report the actual feelings of the speaker. They are terms used in techniques to take control of a conversation, and be seen as more adult, more mature, and more in charge than the “other” guy.
The idea being that the person using such terms is the calmer, more rational, therefore more credible leader.
Both Democrats and Republicans use these terms constantly. After hearing them for awhile you realize what a facade it is, and it loses all of its effectiveness when everyone does it.

So can we all agree that the Tea Party experiment was a joke? I mean really, here’s all these grass roots organizations based on constitutional ideas that spring up all over. How long did it take for them to be co-opted by the GOP? Couple of years maybe? The Tea Party guys elect Boehner to speaker TWICE! Then they back a candidate that gave us Rule 12 at the convention that pretty much ensures that the Tea Party will never get their candidates into the platform at the delegation.

I’ll admit it. I was there. I joined a tea party in OH back in 2009. Now I just feel like a schmuck. That was a huge waste of time as we can all see that we just end up with McCain’s and Boehner’s and that the tea party candidates were all pretty good salesmen.

      @ROTHBARDIAN

It’s always been the perception (made popular by Rush Limbaugh), that the future of the Tea Party was not in forming a 3rd party, but instead taking over the GOP, and running out the current crop of moneyed elites, and RINO’s.
Instead it appears just the opposite has happened.

In addition we have some brilliant strategies by the Democrats to turn the middle class into the low class, and moderately dependent on the government. While turning the low class into a completly dependent welfare class.

Based on the last election it seems that this strategy has been incredibly successful, and it’s only gonna get worse. By 2016 (if we don’t have an economic collapse), the vast majority will be too dependent on the government to ever vote for a conservative again.

      I agree….
Every Republican in congress should vote “present” and give Obama and the democrats everything they’re asking for. Tax hikes and no spending cuts.
Take out ads in swing states explaining the vote by saying that this president has called them “obstructionist” and having “the same old tired ideas” therefore they will do neither in this instance and allow every item the president and his party have demanded to be passed. When the economy craters they should remember who’s policies were solely are responsible.
Now..knowing the democrats they would take advantage of this seeming acquiensence and include the DREAM act in the bill to bait the GOP with. The GOP should block it at that point solely for the inclusion of such policy. The GOP in that instance should make sure the public knows that every item demanded by the Democrats and Obama was agreed to without one GOP item included and they went and added the DREAM act to the bill. At that point..ask Obama to explain why nothing was passed. Do to the democrats what Obama’s been doing to the GOP..vote present and let someone else bear the responsibility for policy which you can demagogue later to your advantage. Get Alinsky on the democrats, make them play by their own rules.

It isn’t a cliff you fool. It’s some very nasty tasting medicine that will probably make a lot of people very uncomfortable for a while…tough. The country needs a strong dose of medicine to know of the wasteful spending of many entitlements and the obscene wasteful spending of the Pentagon. There is no way the reps from the ******* states would ever vote for a reduction in Defense Dept. spending and this is a sure way to make sure it happens. We’re building armaments for the next cold war and the Pentagon doesn’t necessarily even want some of the stuff on the drawing board. Building stuff just to keep people employed is a very stupid reason to build it. Let the fools that thought the DOD gravy-train would last forever be retrained. Or they could go pick crops in the fields and prove that Americans still can take hard work. I did ag field work for 10 years…I know it ain’t easy but it’s money for food & rent.

***** needs to stop crying. are the taxes on the rich going up? Yes. Don’t allow them to go up without entitlement/spending cuts and also the closing of tax loop holes. The democrats did a better job marketing the tax hike idea and they voted for. The majority want it so it will happen. most people realize the tax hike alone won’t make much difference. its up to others to make that case and ensure the proper spending cuts are done as well. This whole cliff talk is a bunch of garbage. There is no cliff. Sure, it’s not a positive outlook right now, but its not like you will wake up one day and the world will be different. the cliff talk is to scare people into make a quick decision. let the date pass and get a real deal.

Agreed, there is no cliff. This whole monster is propped up by fiat money. What would happen if we just kept everything as is? We’d run another 1Tr plus deficit right? Okay….and…? The Fed will monetize it. They already buy 75% of it out of thin air. We just print and we’ll all pay for it in prices. Either way we’re paying for it. I sorta like the massive inflation play because it punishes those most who voted to take from other people. Voted for Obama? Cool, here’s your $25 gallon of milk…drink up sucker.

Again, there is no real cliff. We will just print and spend and print and spend until the petrodollar hegemony is broken apart. And that will only happen after some sort of war. In the meantime, we just keep cruising and exporting inflation to the rest of the world and wonder why everyone hates us.

They will never stop and will never go along with anything from the Conservatives, Obama wants to finish as fast as he can the fundamental transformation of the nation and to seize final power.

Consider the media hyper-war that will be conducted by the left MSM will conduct to blame the Right, and cry aloud for Obama ‘to be given the power he needs to solve this crisis…’ The democrats will give it to him, or he will seize it by executive order, and then instant dictatorship with a communist system in place.

You’ve got it. They WANT to go back to the CLINTON era tax rates. That’s right, these rates are from the very first bill that Clinton signed after entering office in ’93. If that was not bad enough, the bill was retroactive to 1 October 1992, the beginning of the ’93 fiscal year. The rates were so high that they were able to even collect taxes from Social Security recipients, one of Clinton’s targeted groups. 0bama has praised the Clinton tax rates and has expressed his desire to go back to them. Then he points his fingers at the Republicans to say that it is they who will make this happen. The semantics of the entire ordeal has been to call it all the Bush Tax Reduction. Its not that, its really the Clinton tax hike.

I’m positive that the Dems aren’t taking spending seriously at all. Obozo is simply ridiculous! What are the cuts in spending? The Obozo’s are going to take another 21 day vacation to Hawaii again this year. Remember! The Obozo’s spent 1.4 billion in travel, protection, and jet fuel etc. etc. etc. etc. to live like King and Queen of England ( I was going to say K and Q of Djbouti) but I was being PC. The Obozo’s spent 1.4 billion last year on being King of the USA, but the entire Royal Family of Great Brittan only spent 58 million.

How about more work and less Obozo campaigning and vacationing. I billion dollars use to run a country for a year. Now a billion won’t get Obozo to Hawaii and Jay Z and date night in South Africa and back enough.. He needs a billion and a half.

Obozo doesn’t want to cut spending. He wants to increase spending on ludicrous wasteful big governement. Obozo wants to take your 401K and to help fund the gov’t, because all of the taxing the rich only feeds the big govt leviathan for 8 or 9 days.

This is so true! Don’t forget about all of the special “green energy jobs” that Obama wishes would actually work. How many trillions have we spent bailing out corporations, investing in stupid stuff, and helping foreign dictators keep the “peace”? Ha. The joke is, and always will be, on us. They talk of the middle class having to pay $2,200 more in taxes next year. Who’s fault is that?? And this does not take into consideration the effect that increased taxes on everything else, cuts into the middle class’s pocketbooks, as well. The Dems (Socialists) don’t care, and the Reps are fairly helpless…although taking out ads on television, radio, and in magazines such as “The National Inquirer”…using short words and simple messages, and a catchy jingle, may help a little. Repeat constantly, until SOME of the American people actually hear the message.

So the idiot democrats can give the people’s money away to buy votes………….I’m truly sorry, but this entire progressive attitude makes me sick !!!!!!!!!!

The Federal Government has been stealing my money through Social Security for decades which I’m likely to never receive any back. Now they want to steal my retirement plans. No way! It’s time for revolution to reset the madness.

Ok, seriously…you know how the Arab spring came around and the US was loading weapons on any Haji willing to fight against the standing governments? We arm “freedom fighters” everywhere with weapons to fight their governments funded by US taxpayers. Is it possible that we could find a country willing to sponsor a revolution here? Surely some country would kick us some money and weapons and technology to have our own American Spring don’t you think? I mean if it’s good for the goose isn’t it good for the gander?

It’s funny how people think America is immune to revolution or insurrection. Got news for ya, it’s coming here. Maybe not today or tomorrow, but it is coming.

Boehner, the damnocrats are taking this fiscal cliff thing very seriously. They are doing everything they can to ensure the destruction of These United States.

And YOU and the rest of the republicats are doing NOTHING to stop them…

I know I’m not taking it seriously anymore. I can’t take speaker Beaner seriously either. If I hear one more nauseating fiscal metaphor I’m gonna vomit. It’s like the named tropical storms/hurricanes because they have a list for each letter of the alphabet beforehand, but when they run out they start calling them alpha, beta etc. Notice how they immediately pulled out this newest “fiscal cliff” metaphor after that puppet show on nov 6?

At least if we go over the cliff EVERYONE gets it. I like that part. The thought of Obamaphone lady looking all confused when crap is falling apart almost seems worth the thousands of dollars that it will cost me.

The national weather service is now naming “sub tropical” storms to use up the names faster and make it look like global warming is real.

I have noticed that for the last couple of years. Everything in the Atlantic is now named.

Gotta disagree Roth. The banksters and political class never suffer. I’m pretty sure FDR didn’t miss a meal when our antecedents were starving. They just want us distracted by hating the parasite class who take our jobs, opportunities and paychecks to subsidize their anime por-n/video game/pothead lifestyle, when in reality they cost us only a trillion dollars while the military-industrial bankers cost us 7 trillion dollars.

I believe the Demoncraps don’t care if we go over the cliff. No matter what happens they will blame it on the Republican’ts. This is a blink game and the Regressives are better at it than the Republican’ts. Time to change the game and play hardball. Don’t blink and NEVER give in again.

Ok, who screwed up and put real news on TheBlaze? Dang it I was having so much fun commenting on the Rubix cube and the giant spider. Oh well may as well comment.

I feel much better knowing that the crying Boehner is leading the charge. Bet he caves in the next 24 hours.

I also get tired of all the bs stories on here. Especially since the country is going to hel* quickly.

Glenn needs to stop the “reporters” from surfing the web and do some real investigative reporting. Either that or hire some real reporters.

      Thank you Gary.

TheBlaze reported as near as I can tell two news stories today. TheBlaze was set up by Glenn to report the hard hitting news the MSM refuses to report. Now it only reports the stories the MSM thinks are too insignificant to report.

I dont think Glen, Stew or any of the other executive personnel even bother reading this trashy tabloid. One would think if they did they would do something about all the people TheBlaze hurts on a daily basis. Or at least I would hope their morality would override their bank account.

All these “personal interest” stories and dysfunctional low lifes looking for headlines probably appeals to some. If they need to keep doing it maybe they can make a link titled “stupid stuff for the left” and keep it from the rest of us who don’t care a whit about some moron acting stupidly. Those who need to ffed on ignorance can then go to that section.

Screw it man. Let’s roll over the cliff. Frankly, I’d rather face the new rates than deal with the creepy “compromises” that are being talked about…401K confiscation, retirement tax break reductions, mortgage interest deduction removal, etc. Screw that…I trust the GOP to look out for what’s right like I’d trust Bill Clinton with my sister.

    Embrace the cliff.

I heard today about that with the 401k seizures and replacing them with government bonds and treasury notes that are worthless.

ROTH, That is almost what Rush is saying now. Basically he thinks that Boehner should just tell everybody that he is going to have all of his Republicans only vote present and that 0bama and the Dems will personally OWN everything that happens. And they cannot blame the Republicans for their own mess. Might make for some decent reverse psychology to some, but I actually believe they want to crash this country, and start all over in their own image.
