U.N. Grants Palestinians Historic Statehood Recognition Status

The United Nations General Assembly on Thursday voted overwhelmingly to grant the Palestinians nonmember observer state status, a major victory in their quest for independent international recognition.
The final vote count was 138-9, with 41 abstentions. The United States and Israel voted against the resolution, along with Canada, the Czech Republic, Marshall Islands, Micronesia, Nauru, Palau and Panama.
The vote does not create a Palestinian state, only upgrades the Palestinian Authority’s status within the U.N., putting it on par with the Vatican — the only other entity with nonmember observer state status.
The Palestinian resolution had been widely expected to succeed. The upgraded status means the Palestinian Authority is still unable to introduce resolutions to the General Assembly and must continue to partner with a sympathetic member state to initiate any resolutions. However, officials believe that even as a nonmember state, the Palestinians could join such international bodies as the World Trade Organization, the World Bank and the International Criminal Court.
Before the vote, Palestinian Authority President Mahmoud Abbas — who was greeted with a partial standing ovation — told the international body that this month’s week-long conflict between Israel and Hamas militants in Gaza was proof their statehood is essential.
“The Israeli aggression against our people in the Gaza Strip has confirmed once again the urgent and pressing need to end the Israeli occupation, and for our people to gain their freedom and independence,” Abbas said.

Calling Israel guilty of a “racist, colonial occupation,” Abbas said the Palestinians’ push in the U.N. was not “terrorism” but a “serious attempt to achieve peace” and that “the rope of patience is shortening.”
“We do not come here seeking to de-legitimize a state established here years ago, and that is Israel,” Abbas said. “[We come here to] affirm the legitimacy of a state that must now achieve its independence and that is Palestine.”
Israeli Ambassador to the U.N. Ron Prosor responded that the only way to achieve peace is through direct negotiations between Jerusalem and Ramallah, not on the voting floor of the United Nations in New York. He said the resolution would make a negotiated settlement less likely.
“This resolution will not advance peace, this resolution will not change the situation on the ground,” Prosor told the General Assembly.
Prosor said he’s never heard Abbas use the phrase “two states for two people,” because “the Palestinian leadership has never accepted a Jewish state for the Jewish people,” garnering some applause.
Prosor said Gaza has become “a haven for terrorists and an ammunition dumping ground” for Israel’s enemies in Iran.
“Israel remains committed for peace but we will not establish another Iranian terror base in the heart of our country,” he said.
The United States had staunchly opposed the Palestinian effort. Speaking after the vote, U.S. Ambassador to the U.N. Susan Rice called it an “unfortunate and counterproductive” move that “places further obstacles in the path to peace.”
“The backers in today’s resolution say they seek a functioning, independent Palestinian state,” Rice said. “So do we. But we have long been clear that the only way to establish such a Palestinian state and resolve all permanent status issues is through the crucial, if painful, direct negotiations between the parties.”
Rice said the U.S. would “oppose every effort that seeks to de-ligitimize Israel or undermine its security.”

Posted on November 29, 2012 at 5:58pmUnder the Montevideo Convention 1933: To gain UN observer status a State should possess the following qualifications:
A defined territory
a government
capacity to enter into relations with other States
a permanent population
None of these conditions apply to the lie of Palestine.
There simply is no “Palestine”, and there are no “Palestinians”. This is a political fantasy, a myth, started in 1948 by Musa Alami. When the Jews re-entered the land, 68% of the Arab population in Arab-occupied “Palestine” had already migrated out, having never seen a Jew. The Arabs were from Syria and mostly from Jordan. It was perceived that the remaining Arabs could form a perpetual ***** against Israel, therefore Syria and Jordan denied repatriation of their own people, their own “colonists”. With this kind of background, the tolerance of the Jews in Israel toward the foreign Arab population is beyond comprehension. The patience Israelis have shown the Arabs in ineffable. To annihilate Gaza would not seem “unjust”.

I don’t agree with Hitler. However, the Jews weren’t really lobbing rockets into Berlin daily either. That being said, he did what he did. And he was either going to get away with it or he wasn’t. He didn’t. People took up arms to stop him.
So if these countries feel similarly that the plight of the Haji is on par with the plight of the 1940 Jew then maybe they should pick up rifles and go do something about it. Maybe you should too. If not, then quit being whiney ankle biters.

If you don’t have a clear understanding of the creation of Israel and why, (which is odd since you cite Hitler’s actions and they were part of the reason) then you should get one before looking uneducated on this topic.
The UN (and to a large extent US) made a mistake in making the borders of Israel. At the time, the borders in the entire region were in flux, post WWII, so all claims to borders were a mess. The ’47 borders of Israel were indeed indefensible. Israel won its armed conflicts with its ‘neighbors’ and by right of military conquest owns its current borders.
Whatever ‘historic’ boundary’s may or may not have existed, the problem today exists with the current boundarys and going backward to whine about the past accomplishes nothing but hate and violence (kind of like racial tension here in the US, no?). It’s okay to learn from the past, but to live in it just achieves failure.
There is no Palestinian ‘state’, if the UN wishes to create one, it can. It will be as big of a mistake as Israel’s borders were because it’s not defensible. Israel will leave it alone as long as it is not attacked from it. If it is, then Israel will be within its rights to defend itself, which it will. This will ignite a regional conflict that has global implications. Basically, with the current Palenstinian ‘mindset’, giving them a state could spark WWIII. It just shows how uneducated the UN is.

Nope they are “an observer state” … NOT an independent nation.
They are a bunch of squatters who just want to kill Jews. They have no love of peace nor do they want to have peace with us.
You have obviously and intentionally believed the lie that Israel is some how the aggressor.
Israel did NOT displace ANYONE! When the Jews moved back in to that land it was a swampy malaria infested land that NO ONE WANTED! They drained the swamps and made it livable.
The Arab hatred of the Jews was on full display when they attacked Israel during the six day war.
The “Palestinians” are Jordanian refugees that even the Arabs don’t want so that the Arab nations can use them as a PR weapon. If the nations of Islam cared even a little about those poor fake victims all they have to do is welcome them home.
But just like the Jerk I think you don’t care about the truth of this issue… you are only interested in assigning blame to the people of God. Good luck with that.

In the 1800′s they were territories of the Ottoman empire. Palestine was never a country. It was a mosquito infested swamp with less than 500 thousand squatters/nomads in the 1860′s. That region didn’t break a million until Jews began immigrating and developing the lands they “bought”.

The sad thing is that you have no idea what it would feel like to have people push you around and tell you how to live your life. If you did, then you would understand why a person would feel the need to raise his gun in defense of the helpless. The Arabs had even more powerful of a military religion, because if you read their REAL quran and they’re ACTUAL qadifs(history books, excuse my spelling) then you’d see you can’t mistake what Allah feels is the only way to deal with non-believers. Not to mention what Muhammad was doing and wanted to do. God tried so hard to get man to understand how his simple law worked, but man was too filled with pride to accept it. so out of the hardness of their hearts, he gave them laws that they could never live up to. sadly they still didn’t get it, thinking they could uphold those laws whilst still remaining sinful beings themselves. That’s when God realized that man might only get it if God gave his only begoten son to us to go through all the suffering we went through, then Jesus set it straight what we could not understand. that is FREEDOM and JUDGEMENT. When the scribes and pharisees knew where Jesus was they brought a woman to him, who had commited adultry. They said to him “she has commited adultry, according to the old law we stone her. Through their pride, they could not see what God was trying to show them. So Jesus knelt down and started writing in the sand, then said

Posted on December 1, 2012 at 12:17pm“he who has not sinned, cast the first stone” Though we do not know for sure, some people believe Jesus was writing the sin’s of those who accused that woman. but Jesus was able to make it so clear to all of what God wished so badly for us to get about this life. Just like you, God can’t stand priests who misuse their power and place judgement on others without holding themselves accountable for what they’ve done wrong. Jesus handled this situation like a boss, John 8: 4-11 (4 They(S&P) say unto him, Master, this woman was taken in adultery, in the very act. 5 Now Moses in the law commanded us, that such should be stoned: but what sayest thou? 6 This they said, tempting him, that they might have to accuse him. But Jesus stooped down, and with his finger wrote on the ground, as though he heard them not. 7 So when they continued asking him, he lifted up himself, and said unto them, He that is without sin among you, let him first cast a stone at her. 8 And again he stooped down, and wrote on the ground. 9 And they which heard it, being convicted by their own conscience, went out one by one, beginning at the eldest, even unto the last: and Jesus was left alone, and the woman standing in the midst. 10 When Jesus had lifted up himself, and saw none but the woman, he said unto her, Woman, where are those thine accusers? hath no man condemned thee? 11 She said, No man, Lord. And Jesus said unto her, Neither do I condemn thee: go, and sin no more.)

Posted on December 1, 2012 at 12:56pmJust think about it, who are you to say someone needs to die for what they’ve done? are you perfect? I disagree with all the wrong things that christians have don to other people, that story should prove that God felt the same way or he would’ve been pretty angry a Jesus. If you wanna actually understand the bible, you should consider getting Dake’s bible. Dake logged like 50’000 hours to biblical research to prove that the bible speaks for itself, The answers are RIGHT THERE. People have misinterpreted it for centuries simply because they’re prideful creature. Dake made it a point to not use any opinions, when he explains what each verse means. It is incredibly fascinating to see how ignorant most people are when they cite texts from the bible, calling it radical. It just goes to show how easily misinterpreted things can be, especially when they are so detailed. I mean it’s so easy to look at a baby and see that it’s selfish, but it is also helpless and ignorant the term. So you can’t place blame on a baby for anything it does, the poor little ones LITERALLY can’t help themselves. But people have the ability to choose how they live, how to feed themselves, and how they die. God doesn’t want you to take that away from them, just help show the way. Show them good things happen to good people and bad things happen to bad people. Don’t throw stones or judgements at them based on who they are, show them love the way God shows us love. No one suffers that way.

Posted on December 1, 2012 at 1:27pmNow there are some things that we can’t let people do, because it goes against free will. meaning terrible things people do to others, we can’t all be free if some of us have no freedoms. Christians should stick up for anyone, but muslims only have to stick up for other muslims. It’s called Shariah law and it is soooooo different than our constitution, they chose to make they’re laws out of they’re religion. We chose to make laws that would give everyone freedom in any given instance, not JUST christians. But what did i say about misinterpretation and pride, that’s it’s a common human problem? sure we still screwed up sometimes, but look at the middle east laws compared to ours. It’s shocking how libs freak out over some christian people of america, just for voicing what they believe in their own religion. You call us intolerant bigots? Let me put it in a way anyone can understand it IN AMERICA: a christian and a muslim sit at a table, one says my god is the only true god then the other disagreed making the same claim. they both agree to disagree and it’s over. This is how it would go if they obeyed OUR law. NOW IN SAUDI ARABIA: a christian and a muslim sit at a table, the christian says my god is the only true god. Any muslim that hears what he said has the right to kill him for blasphemy, see the difference? The word for freedom in the arab language means “complete submittence to Allah” there is no other meaning.

Favored93, who’s the fool? Here’s a fact. The nation called Israel was destroyed in 722 B.C.. Israel did not exist for 2670 years after that fact….

So what you are saying (and I agree with you) is that Israel has finally taken back what was theirs and we should support them in any way we can… cool thanks for posting.

It’s Israel’s land biblically.
And quite frankly, I don’t know if Native Americans would want anything Barack Hussein Obama would “give” back to them. They’d end up with a prime piece of uninhabitable land in Death Valley or a piece of newly eroded Jersey Shore line.
It’s all falling into place for the Kenyan. Wicked SOB.

Do you know why that map says “Palestine”?
When Rome destroyed Israel in aprox AD 70 they renamed the land “Palestine” to insult the Jews. Just like the fake victims who are occupying Israeli land you are twisting history for your own agenda.

Stony Arabia, the country that never existed & Sandy Desert of Lybia, another country that never existed. Btw can anyone tell me where Syria ends and Palestine begins on that map? Calling Palestine a country on that map would be much like calling “They Rocky Mountains” a country because they were labeled in big letters on a map. In 1803 that region was part of the ottoman empire and never was a “country”.
There wouldn’t be a “civilization” in that region if it weren’t Jewish immigration.

The map is right in front of you. The Balfour declaration. The relativism to the UN universal human rights act, particularly the section on going home after being dispersed. It is the section that gave the Israelis a state of their own. But it also meant the Palestinians could go home too. Bad for the Israelis who started stealing land that wasn’t given to them. Solution? Act like Palestine never existed. Keep droning on and repeating the lie. If theres a cross or a us flag behind the message guver, its given a ni-chevk pass. This is easy to do with the blind followers of mythology. Threaten them with punishment after death to force compliance with making this life better for those in power, at your expense. And they sell you on ‘you’ll get paid back after you die.’ Biggest checks-in-the-mail of all time. And because they are a race of people who are infused with and inseparable from their faith.

Really? Then why hasn’t there been any conflict with Egypt for 33 years (hint: that’s over 50% of the time the modern state of Israel has been around)? Until just recently, Egypt and Israel were involved in plenty of trade and were even united in enforcing a blockade against Hamas. Israel hasn’t had a war with Jordan since 1967, over 45 years ago.

In the recent conflict, Israel attacked Gaza over 1500 times with their bigger, more accurate weapons and succeeded in killing less than 60 civilians. No matter how you do the math, unless you count one person as being killed in multiple attacks the only conclusion is that Israel caused civilian casualties with less than 5% of its air attacks. Moreover, Hamas generally gets 90% of the casualties inflicted to be civilians while Israel was able to keep it close to 50%.
Here’s something to think about: More Afghan civilians have died at the hands of the US since 2001 than Americans died on 9/11. Was our response unjustified?

We allow all to vote and we are filled with third world types and africans and they will vote for the democrap party because they think the democraps will give them the most giveaways. Same with the UN. It ‘s members are mainly third world dictators who do not identify with the US nor Israel. Israel has few friends in the UN and the UN should know better than to give any autonomy to the Palestinians.

Try one time to not comment on a Jewish, Israeli, or Paleostine story. You can’t do it. Owned. And you don’t see the irony with holding hands with dingyfried, a self acclaimed lefty and toad. Oh, obligatory jihad noise: lalalalalala.

If Israel’s prosperity were dependent on US funding then the stimulus would have worked. Israel may benefit from funding but they would still be prominent without it.

Posted on November 29, 2012 at 5:13pmThe UN needs to be moved to Brussels but I guess since we now live in the New America we wouldn’t want Caesar Obama to need to travel all the way to Europe to bow to tyrants. Maybe we can turn the White House into a museum, and Obama can move the executive offices to the UN building?

Kind of like being called a “non-person” with no right to speak.
And yet…. they are happy? Very WEIRD !

Posted on November 29, 2012 at 5:35pmVery weird only begins to touch the surface. I still remember the Olympics that these dysfunctional animals scarred . The innocent athletes they killed. These psychos do not deserve a state. They deserve to be placed in a locked down mental facility. Their hatred is a virus which has infected the entire world for the past 40 years. Our angry Lefty Trolls have even caught the symptoms. A giant leap backward in human development .

But I must say how I loathe how the Palestine people love to twist words making them seem they are Israels side. What a crock!! those people are nut jobs !

Posted on November 29, 2012 at 5:28pmWalls have a history of coming down, and not always to a benefit.
Better people realize this is not about land but a theology of intolerance bent on the destruction of Israel and all others who do not practice their faith. Until the rose colored glasses come off, you will continue to see hatred in its rawest form against culture, diversity, individualism, freedom and under constant attack under the guise of peaceful intent.
