3 People Dead in Wyoming Community College Attack
CHEYENNE, Wyo. (AP) — An attack at a community college in central Wyoming and another location nearby left three people dead Friday morning – a faculty member, another person, and the suspect, who police say used a sharp-edged weapon in the killings.
Police found two of those killed at a science building on the Casper College campus and the third at another location about 2 miles away.
Authorities didn’t identify the suspect or victims but said two were male and one was female.
The suspect wasn’t believed to be a student, but it appeared there was a relationship between the suspect and victims killed, Police Chief Chris Walsh said.
“We’re locating next of kin, and working on notification absolutely as fast as we can,” he said.
Walsh said he wanted the community to know there was no further threat.
“I want to emphasize that this is a horrible tragedy,” Walsh said. “And I want the city to, well I can’t say, you know just feel safe right now. There is no one at large.”
The attack occurred just before 9 a.m. Friday at the two-year community college in Casper, about 250 miles northwest of Denver.
Class was in session and the campus was locked down after the attack and the science building was evacuated, but the lockdown had ended by early afternoon.
Police provided some details in a news conference streamed live by the Casper Star-Tribune (http://trib.com/ ).
Political science instructor Chris Henrichsen said he was showing the film “Frost/Nixon” to his Wyoming and U.S. government class when he stepped into the hall to get something for a student and was told a homicide had occurred on campus.
He went back to his classroom, where students were getting messages about the campus lockdown on their phones.
“We locked the door and waited for further instruction,” Henrichsen said.
The class finished watching the remaining 10 minutes of the movie and remained locked down 20 minutes after that, he said.
The students then were sent home, but some who parked near a different campus building where the attack occurred had to leave their cars there, Henrichsen said.
Henrichsen said he saw nothing unusual or suspicious on campus before the attack.
Walsh said 33 law enforcement officers from different agencies responded to the college after receiving reports about an attack. He said authorities first thought it might have been an “active shooter type situation.”
“We quickly contained the building, and started a sweep through the building,” he said.
Walsh said within minutes of the initial call, there was another report of a traumatic injury about two miles southwest of campus. He would not specify where the suspect was found dead, but said, “one of those who is deceased is who we believe was committing all the violence.”
Casper is Wyoming’s second-largest city with a population of about 56,000. Wyoming residents refer to it as the “Oil City” because it’s a hub for the state’s small oil industry.
Casper is flanked to the south by Casper Mountain, scene of a massive wildfire in September that burned more than 24 square miles of forest and meadows and destroyed 37 homes and cabins.

Posted on December 1, 2012 at 11:11amWe must ban all knives because they can cut and kill people. They are by their nature evil and must be abolished, besides the 2nd Amendement doesn’t cover knives as a protected right. Terrible that people lost their lives because of some nut job. No difference what means is used to end an innocent life it is the person not the object that is at fault.

Posted on November 30, 2012 at 6:21pmFirst rule in commenting: NEVER go back to read your own posts or what people have replied – stupid. No one thinks like you do (meaning each and every person), so don’t go back and read what the people “lying in wait” reply. Say it and go on. I absolutely know that people lambaste me and my comments, and I keep on a writing. Why? Because I have NEVER gone back to see what people say.
NOW, my comment. Oby must think he’s got his gun control agenda well in hand, because now he’s paying people to go out with the ever so evil “crossbows and compound bows”. You can bet that he is going to have included in his “Weapons Control Law” that only longbows are allowed for public sale, and any mechanical enhancements (i.e. multiple cables, gearing, and cams) will be considered illegal for any personal use. MEANING…the person who will actually be able to pull a longbow effectively, is also going to be a monster that can probably put his fist through your skull anyway. Pretty soon Oby’s going to make a law that it is illegal for anyone to be healthy enough to bench press over 150 lbs. That way he can keep us all safe and sound…..or at least keep himself safe from any uprising against his reign.

It might just be an off the wall thing.
On another note yes Texas is the nest state to be flipped by the socialists. Texas needs more of a Libertarian GOP.

Posted on November 30, 2012 at 1:47pmYes, Casper College is a gun free zone (even if you have a conceal carry permit) or should I say a criminal safe zone. However, this crime was not committed using a gun, but rather a cross bow. My son attends and I have several friends who work there. And this is not a nothing story for those of us in Casper. Sorry it wasn’t entertaining enough for some of you.

Posted on November 30, 2012 at 6:19pmRGOODY, we do not need conceal carry permits in this state. Also, the employees can be told they are not allowed to carry by their employer just as the students but though it hasn’t been challenged yet, I do not see they can prohibit private citizens walking on a shared public sidewalk from carrying.

We have gotten tooooo many liberals here now, we need to start restocking it with common sense It has gotten so, I am thinking of moving to Texas, the fact that they are still a territory is a huge draw as I feel secession may be in the future

I’m libertarian. I’m an anti-tax, pro-personal responsibility, open carry advocating, red blooded, woman loving, fully employed, highly educated, motorcycle riding, 100% American, and my wife is the same (except the woman loving part of course, heh). Rode my bike to Wyoming this last summer, best summer vacation of my life, loved it. Not a person blinked at my sidearm, except a few out of state types. People were as nice as they come, without being over the top syrupy like Texans. Great experience.
If you think Texas is a refuge, I would like to point out that they barely carried the GOP vote in 2012, and many places are filling chock full of leftists busybodies. Plus you can’t open carry there, and the taxes are higher.

Posted on November 30, 2012 at 4:14pmGhost is right. TX barely stayed red this year. People are flocking to TX because of their economy and job market, and many of them are leftists. They’re bringing their leftist ideologies with them. The vast majority of the state will stay red, but if there are enough in Dallas, Austin, Houston, it’ll flip the state blue. That’s how the left does it. Most states in this country are largely conservative, but they fill the large cities with liberal ideologies, create dependencies, and leftist cesspools that always vote democrat against their own best interest. Get enough population in those cities, they’ll flip the rest of the state. That’s how they get around the fact they are in fact still the minority ideology in this country.

It is a great way to get a 4 year degree without owing Uncle Slam.
It has 2 year programs & other stuff that offer people a leg up , regardless if they go to a 4 year college or not.

Posted on November 30, 2012 at 1:29pmDoug,
Yes, there is evidence, in law. Section 6-8-104t of the Wyoming revised code states specifically that firearms are prohibited:
“Any college or university facility without the written consent of the security service of the college or university;”
Wyoming has beautiful firearms laws generally, but still subscribe to the college idiocy for reasons I’m not sure of. Guaranteed you won’t see many shootings in Wyoming like this outside of college universities or k-12 schools.

Posted on November 30, 2012 at 5:14pmWe are, indeed, a Constitutional carry state here in WY – meaning we can carry concealed WITHOUT a permit. With the exception of that college campus lunacy, that is – which makes no sense to me whatsoever. Sad thing is, one has to wonder if someone there had had a firearm on them, would this senseless tragedy have perhaps been avoidable?
