Allen West on His Future: ‘Abraham Lincoln Only Served One Term in Congress…’

Did Allen West Hint at a Presidential Bid, and Compare Himself to Abraham Lincoln?

Former Florida Rep. and Tea Party favorite Allen West, who recently lost re-election to Democratic challenger Patrick Murphy, appeared on National Public Radio Friday. Far from despondent, West spoke of Washington politics and his future role with his characteristic assertive, yet calm, tone.

Politico relates the interview’s significant conclusion:

MARTIN: So what’s next for you?

WEST: Look, you know, God closes a door so that he can open up greater doors. I will continue to, you know, stand up and fight for this country. That’s my goal. I have two daughters, 19 and 16, and I want to make sure that they grow up in a great America that provides them all the opportunities that it provided to their mother and father.

MARTIN: Congressman Allen West is completing his term in Congress. He was kind enough to join us from a House recording studio on Capitol Hill here in Washington, D.C.

WEST: And always remember, Abraham Lincoln only served one term in Congress, too.

MARTIN: Duly noted. Congressman West, thank you so much for speaking with us.

Many commenters are interpreting West’s closing remarks as a hint that he may consider running for president some day. Perhaps, though, he only meant to say that one can still be a pivotal figure, even if they only serve one term in Congress.

  Great comment. I might add, it’s not the act of secession that’s wrong it’s the reason that makes that determination. To secede in order to continue to enslavery is wrong. To secede to stop it is justifiable. As Chuck aptly quotes “eating off the sweat of another man’s brow is wrong.” Libs have come up with modern slavery. Now the left is robbing those who work in order to take care of themselves primarily and they do it by buying constituents votes who’d rather not work at someone elses expense. It’s criminal! What’s interesting is Barry spends 4 million dollars on a trip to Hawaii, but gives his needy followers a old cheap junky cell phone worth about 5 bucks. What a deal!   Allen is a proven Combat Vet and has my support, only three percent of Americans serve, and less than one percent retire. But he is wasting his time with Congress, the clock is ticking if he wants to serve as much as Governor Palin, they need to form an alliance for 2016 and start collecting Two Billion Dollars of donations right now for their fight against Hillary and Joe.

  I too will be ready to help him if he runs again. I was able to hear him speak about three months ago. He was awesome and totally inspiring. I know why the election did not go for him. Hopefully problems regarding elections in the future will be resolved. A complete change of election personnel in both Palm Beach County and St. Lucie County are needed. Whether the voters are willing to do it is the question.

  Allen West is one of the true conservatives and makes no mistake about where he stands. I like his ability to say it like it is. Remember when he said there were 80 communists in the WH? Well, we now know he was right. We all waited patiently for Justice Roberts to give us an answer regarding Obamacare. It was the wrong answer. We waited patiently for the election and the wrong man was elected. We are signing up to secede the union in order to get Congress’s attention but that does not seem to be working either. So, what do we have left? Conservatives and Libertarians should unite to form a new party and who better to lead us? Allen West. Give it a try Col. West it just may work for you.

  Allen West lost his election for several reasons, despite having a larger campaign war chest than any other Congressman except the House Speaker. And running against a 29 year old wet-behind-the-ears rookie who had never run for office in his life.
  
  For one, he didn’t win any friends when his Republican challenger tried to shake his hand and he refused. That lack of Southern hospitality doesn’t play well.
  
  Negative ads? His opponent’s most effective ad was simply a collection of Allen West’s most inflammatory quotes. Allen West’s only real claim to fame is making outrageous and ridiculous statements, like Anne Coulter and Limbaugh. He got the boot out of the service and certainly accomplished nothing while in office. He’s an entertainer, not a serious representative of any philosophy.
  
  Despite his huge financial advantage he lost to an unknown nobody. Why? People are sick of his brand of hateful politics. As the article below notes, he lost because thousands of people who voted FOR Romney voted AGAINST him. Hate doesn’t win elections, at least not any more.

  SO TRUE! There are plenty of congressmen and women that we never hear of. I live in California and I sent money to West to get him elected because I liked what he said before he was a congressman. I will donate again if he runs for something else. I donated to his election recount because I believe he was pushed out by fraud. I also believe God has let the fraud happen in this country because God lets bad people do bad things so judgment day will be based in facts. I also believe He has big plans for Allen West.

  I despise Colonel West and I hope and predict that he will be forgotten, but in all fairness to the guy, I think that the people who liked him but turned against him over voting for the NDAA are being a unreasonable and unrealistic. This is something that must pass in some form or other. If we dumped every Congressman who ever voted for an important bill with one bad amendment, nobody would ever have served more than one term.

It is you who is twisting and turning what Allen West said and putting words in that were not said. So…he said no for 2012, but now that he doesn’t have a paycheck…he’s considering it?

Sorry, I know they realligned districts and that cost him his spot, but in all reality, if they had not realligned I think he would have been voted out anyway. Why? Because all he talked about was his country and Obama when those who put him in office wanted him to talk about them and their state. I don’t want anyone as my congressman if they won’t keep their eye on the ball because they are too busy giving interviews/quips/sound bites about things his job has nothing to do with.

  The Dems AND the GOP were threatened by West’s presence in Congress. They both wanted him gone. In fact, a number of 2010′s Tea Party candidates did not win re-election.
  
  Those TP folks who lost re-election should get together and start a third party. The time is now. The GOP takes the conservative vote for granted in the same way Obama takes the black vote for granted.
  
  The GOP is set to go the way of the Whig party. Once the GOP is extinct, let the RINOs join the Dems (finally!) and the conservative join the third party.

The CSA definitely wanted a huge government which would permanently enslave the three million blacks living in the south. He saw slavery as a form of tyranny and condemned it over and over again. He believed it was an unequivocal moral evil. Libertarans simply ignore the evidence.
  
  The turning point in Lincoln’s life was the Kansas-Nebraska Act of 1854, which allowed slavery to spread into the territories. Upon its passage Lincoln said, “This covert zeal for the spread of slavery, I cannot but hate. I hate it for the monstrous injustice of slavery itself.”

He also described Black nationalism as “a phony nationalism” that was “beginning to look like a drive for an aggravated form of coerced parasitism over the White population.” The overall impression created by the article was that Rothbard was using Black nationalism as a straw man with which to complain about Black ‘parasitism’ and the supposed inability of blacks to form independent, self-sufficient communities without welfare support from Whites.
  
  Rothbard stated that “There is no question that Black nationalism is a lot more Libertarian than the compulsory integration pushed by King, the NAACP, and white Liberals.” This says more about Rothbard than it does about Black nationalism. A separatist state, with restricted migration to ‘the USA’, does not seem to be a free one, nor would Black nationalism in its Muslim form have offered women the range of liberties that Rothbard took for-granted in the case of White men.
  
  Rothbard also advocated during this period that “Cops must be unleashed, and allowed to administer instant punishment, subject of course to liability when they are in error.” The implication clearly was that the cops would be White and the recipients Black.   The only things I’ll say about the Ron Paul newsletters that offend you so badly is that there is no statement in any of them that is nearly as overtly racist as the Lincoln quote I posted. Not to mention that Ron Paul didn’t write or edit any of those (mild by comparison) statements.

I don’t care what everyone else has to say about this man, but he is truly awesome. When you think of patriots this man goes to the top of the list. I’m sure Congressman West is far from retiring and will continue to fight for this country. He has what it takes and my only regret is I don’t live in Florida to cast a vote for what ever office he seeks.

  Yes I have been following a number of these fraudulent precincts where there were 159% more voters than have registered. How long are we as Americans going to continue to put up with this fraud? I surely don’t see any of the GOP groups challenging this as if they believe it’s part of the process. Voter ID and the continual purging of names where the registered voter has passed away or moved and registered somewhere else would be a great idea, but once again you have your normal Democrat affiliated groups making a big deal of this as trying to keep the minorities from voting etc.
