Daughter’s Panic as Two Whales Swim Shockingly Close to Her Canoe During Outing With Her Dad

YouTube
A father-daughter canoe outing led to an amazingly close brush with nature when two large whales swam up right next to them to play — and immediately sent the daughter into a panic.
The three-minute video, uploaded to YouTube in September, was shot off Fraser Island in Australia and shows the two whales swimming around and under the tiny vessel.
“Don’t knock us over please!” the daughter is heard calling out. And later, “Oh my God daddy, it’s under us!…Dad it’s gonna hit us!”

Posted on December 1, 2012 at 2:02pmI realize she was scared, but that father needs to correct the kid about her language. It kind of distracted me from the amazing whale pictures, because I kept expecting the father to say, “hey, watch your mouth.”
I guess it’s just the times we live in.

Posted on December 2, 2012 at 4:52pmWell, MISTER NATURAL, it’s kind of funny you should mention the father’s concern for his daughter’s safety trumping his concern over her language… since, at no point in the video did he express concern about either her safety or how frightened she was.
And add hurling unnecessary insults at strangers on the Internet where you are shielded by the vale of anonymity to the list of unfortunate signs of the times.

Posted on December 2, 2012 at 8:01pmThe main message about this story is what a bad father might look like – and a fun setting. He made no effort to comfort or re-assure his daughter – he was basically silent – worthless.
And yes, I don’t approve of the bad language. Now, facing a whale and correcting her would be bad timing- she needed reassurance that they would be safe – not a scolding on top of her fear. Nevertheless, we must assume this is a standard conversation level at home. It needed to have been understood as inacceptable elsewhere.
Yep, he’s a bad dad.

It will be sad when the pouring out of the 2nd bowl happens in Rev 16:3 The second angel poured out his bowl on the sea, and it turned into blood like that of a dead man, and every living thing in the sea died

Posted on December 1, 2012 at 2:20pmAll of you who are being critical of a young girl “being a ninny” and such, have obviously NEVER been in a small boat being investigated by a wild and curious, and VERY large (I repeat – WILD) animal. When in an easily capsized boat like a canoe or small dingy, even a close encounter with a few dolphins can be a heart thumper. Whales and dolphins both have been known to overturn a boat in “play”, and the thought of suddenly and unintentionally entering the realm of these creatures, and the unknown outcome of such an event can start the adrenalin flowing.
At least she maintained her composure enough to continue filming and she didn’t start screaming like a rabid monkey!

Posted on December 1, 2012 at 11:58pmUnless you have felt fear of your life you do not have any idea what this child went thru. As for the father he probably was busy taking those once in a life time experiences he will be able to keep forever and may not have even heard what she was saying. As for myself at one time when I was in the service and I swear like a soldier, my girlfriend told me if I was going to swear to swear like a normal person. I did not even know I was swearing at that time, but it also taught me to listen to what I was saying. So when a person is listening they hear a lot more than the one who is speaking.

Posted on December 1, 2012 at 11:13amI’m sorry, when you’re on salt water SIZE MATTERS…….LOL. While the water was totally calm, I wouldn’t set foot out on it in a canoe or Kayak even. Whales are pretty cool though. Was once off the coast of Maine on an uncles 33ft deep sea fishing boat. Not huge but decent sized. Anyway, we came up on a pod of whales. It was amazing…. there was a baby that swam right up under us like this whale was doing to their canoe. The baby even dwarfed our boat. I can’t believe the guy fishes off that little canoe. That’s insane. Canoe’s aren’t at all stable, especially when you make the mistake of standing up in one, over you go to get up close to the fishes, whales. and SHARKS.
