Egypt’s Supreme Constitutional Court postponed its work indefinitely on Sunday after a protest by Islamists sympathetic to President Mohamed Morsi outside its headquarters.
“(The judges) announce the suspension of the court sessions until the time when they can continue their message and rulings in cases without any psychological and material pressures,” the court said in a statement.
The Supreme Constitutional Court’s announcement Sunday comes hours after it postponed a ruling on the legitimacy of an Islamist-dominated panel that drafted a disputed new constitution for the country.
Several thousand supporters of Islamist President Mohammed Morsi have gathered outside the Nile-side courthouse in Cairo to prevent the judges from entering.
The court said in a statement it cannot work in a “climate filled with hatred” and that its judges could not enter the courthouse Sunday because they feared for their safety.
The judges also were expected to rule to on the legitimacy of another Islamist-dominated upper house of parliament, or the Shura Council.

Dec. 2, 2012 at 4:26pmIt is obama’s fault that the Muslim Brotherhood is in power in Egypt and elsewhere. He almost singlehandedly forced Mubarrak to have to step down in favor of these Sharia-fools. The Muslim Brotherhood did not lie about who they were and what their objectives were. They did not lie about their hatred of Israel. Obama knew who they were and helped them get into powere anyway. Obama is a traitor.

Dec. 2, 2012 at 1:05pmThis might not have the effect the justices want. It’s very possible that their failure to consider the upcoming constitution will give Morsi the justification to disolve the supreme court.

Dec. 2, 2012 at 10:55amThrough my other online channels I keep re-iterating “Women are becoming slaves in Egypt! Women’s equality removed from the constitution. Don’t any of you care about real women’s suffrage? Why is our President and why are you, especially women on the left who voted for Obama, remaining silent when an actual real war on women is occurring?”
The dialog has gone something like that for the past four days or so.
Is it because it’s not right in front of their faces? …because it is not packaged up with a pretty punchline? …because they weren’t told what to think, so they think nothing? …well, gee…
If you have female friends on the left, like I do (I live in the real world), I recommend you start phrasing those conversations. Hopefully a small percentage of them will at least start doubting the reasons the voted for this guy and maybe start to realize they got duped. Doesn’t change this election, but hopefully 2014.

Dec. 2, 2012 at 1:11pmThe vast majority of women on the Left are very low-information voters and care only about themselves. The majority of black women who vote Left are living below the line of poverty and get much if not all of their sustenance from the gov’t so they only care about that and white women are very concerned about their rights to do away with the “clump of cells.” Now when “reproductive freedoms” are being threatened in the developing countries they get up in arms about that but slavery, child marriage, genital mutilation, freedom of education and right to work?? Not so much.
It’s mostly Bible-believing Christian missionaries, ministries and Christians within those nations that take on those abuses. Many Bible-believing Christian School children have raised money to “buy” people out of slavery over the years.
http://www.pbs.org/newshour/bb/africa/jan-june99/sudan.html
Also, World Vision is a Bible-believing Christian organization that really offers hope and allows others to participate by purchasing animals for a family or village, donating money for a clean water well or help girls who have been trafficked.

Dec. 2, 2012 at 8:06pm@searcher619 Yes, certainly I am concerned about the freedoms of all of those who fight against tyranny and the country as a whole and the impact on the entire region and the entire world and the U.S.
The reason I honed in on Women’s suffrage is because I think it’s a poignant enough issue to tap into and persuade women that they were duped. It’s a specific issue and not just a general “this is bad” statement. I believe the demographic percentage gap (women who voted for Obama) was 11 or 12% ? Picking up just 1 or 2 percentage points could potentially be huge.

You are looking at this from a sheltered US centric view. Fact is women’s rights aren’t going to go anywhere in that place until a true civil and democratic government is established which represents and respects the people. there are far more pressing issues they need to address.

Dec. 2, 2012 at 9:15amThe Islamists are in control in Egypt and those judges are lucky to still have their heads affixed to their bodies. If Morsi is able to stay in power and solidify the Islamists power throughout the region it’ll be a very big deal for us because their ultimate goal is to end Israel then us. If there’s enough Egyptians that want some semblance of freedom you better be willing to make the enemies of freedom die for it. If Morsi stays in power he’ll make Mubarak look like a cub scout when it comes to dealing with his enemies and it’ll be a bloody affair to say the least.

And these qualities are shared by the Far Left ” anti-capitalist “( wink, wink ) OWS Democrats who now OCCUPY our White House. They are all riding the same angry bus to destruction at present. Dec. 2, 2012 at 10:31am@ BARBER2- “A climate of hatred” can be used to describe what your founding fathers had for the British government when the colonist decided to have the revolutionary war. The colonist hated the Stamp Act and they hated taxation without representation. Look at how that turned out for America.

Dec. 2, 2012 at 11:32amSHIRHAN: Your name is offensive to any American. There is little similarity to the American Revolution and the Arab Spring. The lack of organized armies, the fanatic religious groups and issues , the irrationality , and the depth of hatred in the Arab Spring , separates the two ” revolutions .” Just look what is happening in Cairo . That is no Philadelphia ! Quite a Constitutional Convention , huh ? Your choice of a posting name reflects the nasty, hatred over there. Offensive . Hate filled.

Dec. 2, 2012 at 6:56pm@ BARBER2- Obviously, your understanding of history is confined to modern history. The colonist were a ragtag group during the revolutionary war. They needed the help of France, Spain and the Dutch to help win the war against Britain.
Besides the Stamp Act and the no taxation without representation issues, the colonist were fed up with the British monarchy system of government and the establishment of religion under British rule. The four issue combined is why the colonist decided to secede from Britain. The colonialist were called irrational also.
As far as my choice of tag name, It’s time you Americans get over it! I hope it does offend you in particular.

I might be wrong but didnt the NAZI party take a substantial position here, or was that somewhere else? Anyways our president is wanting to do the same thing. He just asked Congress to give him sole ownership to control Amerika’s Debt.
Yes, I have made a conscious descision to spell Amerika with a “K”. After this last election, I have learned that 51% of Amerikans want Socialism and an unknown portion dont care if it happens. A.K.A., the ones who didnt vote.

Where are all the useful idiots? They’ve gone home. They’ve done their damage, stirred up the pot and have left the scene for the extremists to take over. Now the region (and the world) is left to deal with the consequences. All we can do is keep this all in mind the next time any of these groups demonstrate for anything. I for one wouldn’t support a single thing they want for anything, knowing what they helped do over there.
