Jason Whitlock Says NRA the New KKK After Bob Costas Gun Control Lecture

NBC sportcaster Bob Costas made headlines yesterday after interrupting Sunday Night Football with a lecture on gun control, following the horrifying murder-suicide of NFL player Jovan Belcher over the weekend.

However, most of his speech was just paraphrasing a recent article by Kansas City columnist Jason Whitlock, who Costas claimed “said it so well” that additional commentary was unnecessary.

Now, with national media attention turned his way, Whitlock is taking his argument for gun control to an entirely new level. Apparently he thinks the National Rifle Association is the “new” Ku Klux Klan.

Newsbusters has the transcript from Whitlock’s interview with Roland Martin:

WHITLOCK: Sports gets so much attention, and people tune out the real world, that I try to take advantage of the opportunity to talk about the real world when sports lends itself to that and try to open people’s eyes. You know, I did not go as far as I’d like to go because my thoughts on the NRA and America’s gun culture – I believe the NRA is the new KKK. And that the arming of so many black youths, uh, and loading up our community with drugs, and then just having an open shooting gallery, is the work of people who obviously don’t have our best interests [at heart].

I think it’s obvious if you’ve traveled abroad, and traveled to countries where they actually have legitimate gun laws, that we don’t have to have what we have here in America, where people somehow think a gun enhances their liberty, and that people somehow think a gun makes them safer. It just doesn’t. A gun turns some kids listening to music into a murder scene. And uh, you know, if you don’t have a gun, you drive home. You know, kids listening to some loud music, you don’t like it… you go home and complain to your wife. But when you have a gun, you open fire, potentially, and take the life of a child.

Obviously, Jovan Belcher was disturbed. Obviously, you know, there were problems between he and his girlfriend. But if there’s no gun, potentially, it’s a domestic-violence issue that doesn’t end in death. Maybe it ends in someone getting hurt, and Jovan going to jail and getting some help. But, you know, any time you add a gun to a situation, you just enhance the consequences. [Emphasis added]

  Maybe Whitlock found the answer to the true problem. Since the NRA is just trying to get rid of African Americans with lax gun laws and proliferation of drugs (I didn’t even know the NRA did this) maybe African Americans should be outlawed from owning guns for their own good. I mean the best way to stop the NRA’s racism is to stop an entire race from killing each other and themselves by blocking their right to bear arms. You know, for their own good and to stop racism. Nope that is not the case. We in the usa are so quick to find someone or group to blame rather than turning a critical eye to the root causes. It is the introduction of drugs, hiphop music that defines a gangsta lifestyle, lack of parental involvement in the black culture if any and just plain old reduction of importance on the sanctity of life….Not the kkk and guns. At the end of the day, my gun may be the only thing that saves me.

So let me understand this. The NRA is giving black youths drugs, and then giving them guns. The NRA must be then getting these black youths to join gangs so they will have a reason to shoot each other. I am sure that all those guns are legal, because even though dealing drugs, pimpin’, and stealing cars is illegal no way will the go over the line carrying an illegal weapon.

A gun doesn’t cause deaths HUMANITY causes deaths. If he didn’t have a gun he probably would have either strangled her or stabbed her with a kitchen knife, we hear about those plenty of times. In fact we hear more about those than the ones involved with a gun. If he didn’t have a gun then he probably would have hung himself or jumped off the building. It takes a CHOICE for a gun to be fired. For those of you who say what about accidental discharges? It takes a person to choose to store the gun improperly and cause an accidental discharge. A gun is a tool just like a chainsaw or an ice pick(a not so common and rather common improvised weapon) or even a power drill(also can be used lethally). If something is built wrong you don’t blame the tool and ban it you blame the person holding it! A tool cannot choose it takes an active choice to use a tool or cause a situation that causes it’s misuse. Blame the hand holding it not the tool.

  More people are killed in cars than by guns each day, we better let everyone know that since the government claims to have saved the auto industry that the Governement is the new KKK and want people dead. We need to outlaw cars. and Stupid Idiots like Whitlock.

  He’s saying the NRA only accept white people and then support illegal firearms being given to black gang members and then given drugs to cause gang violence and help kill off the black population. So the few black people I know in the NRA are part of the KKK? (which did actually derive it’s name from the sound of a rifle being loaded, Ku Klux Klan)

  The same time when they (KKK) invented GANGSTER RAP as to make the black youth appear to glorify the degradation of their culture and society . Its all just a ploy by the racist right wingers to tear apart the future black community of this country, just give them guns, drugs, and they’ll kill themselves. Ingenious plan.
