MSNBC’s Chuck Todd Relays ‘Depressing’ Convo: Obama Aide Said ‘There’d Still Be Slavery’ With Today’s Republicans

MSNBC’s Chuck Todd appeared as a panelist on “Morning Joe” Monday, relating a statement from what he described as a “very smart” White House aide.

After a discussion of TIME columnist Joe Klein’s recent article– in which he argued that Abraham Lincoln would “cut” deals for the greater good and Obama must be a similar “master politician”– Todd weighed in.

“You’re going to like this,” he began. “So, I threw the Lincoln analogy at a close aide to the president last week, and he said, ‘You know, with this Republican– with the way politics of Washington are today– there’d still be slavery. Lincoln wouldn’t have been able to navigate the polarization between the media, between this…’”

Rather than condemn the comment as inaccurate or incendiary, Chuck contributed: “It was an interesting and depressing observation from this very smart White House aide.”

Mostly the libs, with their cradle to grave policies for the lazy have created a slave world without cotton sacks and hoes..It creates these slaves, which are insult to the original slaves, and in this way create a voter base that is too lazy to work and too dumb to know they are slaves..
There will be no easy way to get out of it for our government, rep or dem..The only way will be to cut off all free rides, housing, food stamps and the likes..Social Security is not a free ride and should only be available to the people that paid in to it..

  Folks should go see the movie Lincoln; it was the conservative “R” party that needed 20 votes from the “D” party to pass the 17th. amendment. If the dems got their way, there would still be slavery, no civil rights passed. Why when “R” do the work to make things fair for every person in America the dems get the credit when they have always stood in the way of change.

  We do still have slavery, and it is still the democrats doing it. This time, they’ve expanded who the slaves are. Not just minorities, but women and poor as well. They’re on the govt plantation, they’re addicted to govt subsidies, welfare, they’re promised free stuff and all they have to do to get it is vote democrat. Then these brilliant politicians in Washington might have it sink in just exactly where all that spending money comes from. It would be a fiscal cliff as a wake up call. Maybe the 48% that are on welfare would stop saying the rich don’t pay their fair share when they realize there is no money for them without the working people and the rich. But there is slavery today and the Democrats are the slave masters. They have done it in such a creative way, whites, blacks, and Hispanics are too dense to see it. When you have to rely on the government for your subsistence, you are a slave. When you give away FREE stuff, you create slavery. It does not matter what skin color you have.

You are so blind to what is going on, you put your faith in a group of people who were the real slave owners of the past. With the Democratic Party of the Civil War era there would still be slavery.

With the Republican Party of the Civil War era there would be an industrial policy resting on protective tariffs, a progressive income tax without the need for a constitutional amendment, government subsidies for infrastructure (transcontinental RR, anyone?), and government support for public education (land-grant colleges).

This ‘aide’ of Owebama’s is obviously a product of our public education system, which has managed to hide the FACT that it was Democrats who fought the Civil War to KEEP slavery legal. It was Democrats who started the KKK and Democrats who stood in the way of desegregation. The Civil Rights Act of 1964 was only passed because Republicans voted in high enough numbers to move it over the finish line.
