‘Delighted by the News’: Palace Says Kate Middleton Expecting a Baby, But Hospitalized for Morning Sickness

(TheBlaze/AP) — Get the nursery ready: Britain’s royal family announced Monday that Prince William and his wife are expecting their first child.

St. James’s Palace said Monday that the Duchess of Cambridge – formerly known as Kate Middleton – has a severe form of morning sickness and is currently in a London hospital.

The palace said that since the pregnancy is in its “very early stages,” the 30-year-old duchess is expected to stay in the hospital for several days and will require a period of rest afterward.

In recent days, Middleton has kept up royal appearances – recently playing field hockey with schoolchildren at her former school.

The confirmation of her pregnancy – following intense speculation ever since their lavish Westminster Abbey wedding last year – was greeted with congratulations.

Prime Minister David Cameron wrote on Twitter that he was “delighted by the news,” saying the royals “will make wonderful parents.”

Not only are the attractive young couple popular – with William’s easy common touch reminding many of his mother, the late Princess Diana – but their child is expected to play an important role in British national life for decades to come.

As the first-born to William – who is second in line for the throne after his father, Prince Charles – the couple’s child stands an excellent chance of one day becoming monarch.

Whether boy or girl, the child will be next in line behind William in the line of succession to the throne, Cabinet Office officials have said.

Leaders of Britain and the 15 former colonies that have the monarch as their head of state agreed in 2011 to new rules which give females equal status with males in the order of succession.

Although none of the nations had legislated to make the change as of September 2012, the British Cabinet Office confirmed that this is now the de-facto rule.

Joe Little, managing editor of Majesty magazine, said the news bookended a year that saw the royal family riding high in popular esteem after celebrations of Queen Elizabeth II’s 60 years on the throne.

“We’re riding on a royal high at the moment at the end of the Diamond Jubilee year,” he said. “People enjoyed the royal romance last year and now there’s this. It’s just a good news story amid all the doom and gloom.”

Here are some pictures of Middleton throughout the years, beginning at her own childhood:

She can’t afford to lose much weight, being as thin as she is. It isn’t healthy to begin a pregnancy that underweight. I hope she can keep some food down, and I pray for a healthy child for the young couple.

Wearing high heels while playing hocky? Royalty or not this should not be allowed both for her safety and what about tearing up the field? On second look-see her feet are not touching the ground so it’s “OK”!!

    “Hospitalized for Morning Sickness”

I had to go to the hospital last week because I had a bit of a headache. Then I had to go again yesterday because my fingernails seemed longer than normal.

Prince William is a product of generations of inbreading and the child might be born defective. Does this mean that they will allow the child to die by failing to feed it for 10 days like they do to the general public? Sounds like the future of Obamacare!!!! EVIL!!!!!

Actually, I was hospitalized for extreme morning sickness which necessitated intravenous fluids to combat the effects of dehydration from not being able to keep anythin down.

That one gave me a good chuckle as I could hear the comments from women the world over who are not afforded this luxury. My congratulations to them both :)

Sometimes, when you can’t keep anything down, you get so dehydrated that you have to be fed fluids through an IV drip. This is to protect the mother as the baby takes what nutrients it needs.

If you weren’t interested in the story’s headline, then why even read it? Come on, it’s a “celebrity” that’s having a child AFTER wedlock. I’d say it’s someone newsworthy. ;)

So it begins again. I really hope William and Kate have learned a lesson from Lady Di and Charles. Maybe William will protect his wife and child from the horrors of the news outlets. Unlike Charles did for Williams’ mother.

Who cares if they’re royalty, congratulations are still in order.

Now, if it was Kim Kartrashian who was expecting, I’d say maybe it wouldn’t be such a bad thing if the Mayans were correct….
