Remember Those UFOs Captured on Video in Denver? News Station Rules Out One Possibility

In mid-November, TheBlaze reported about mysterious UFOs captured on video by both a tipster and the news station originally reporting it. Turns out the Denver station wasn’t willing to let the case lie with some of the unsatisfying explanations they were getting.

In a follow-up story, KDVR-TV reported that they’d heard ideas of everything from “Obama’s drones” to remote-controlled aircraft to bugs. Bringing in entomologist — a.k.a. bug expert — Mary Ann Hamilton, the station heard that the “UFOs” flying across the cameras’ frame of view were not insects, which was the most popular explanation:

“This is a toughie. I’ve never seen anything like this,” she said.

Hamilton watched the video over and over again, then she gave us her professional opinion. “After watching the various shots, I do not believe it’s an insect. The shape is inconsistent with an insect,” she said.

With that, KDVR believes the jury is still out as to what the specks could be.

Others maintain insect status though. The Huffington Post reported Bryan Bonner with the Rocky Mountain Paranormal Research Society saying the group went to the site where the footage was taken in both cases and brought a bug net with them in addition to cameras.

“It seems to be a combination,” Bonner told the Huffington Post. “Yes, there are bugs, but there are some obvious birds in there, too. You can see wings flapping.”

The group even experimented with a fly to show how certain filming conditions would make the bug look. They glued the fly to a piece of glass and took a picture of it 10 inches away in focus and then several times at 10 inches with the background in focus. They also photographed it from five feet away. These latter images showed similar blurs as to what was seen in KDVR’s videos. Bonner told the Huffington Post they contacted KDVR with this information, but they didn’t seem to bite:

“We called them and apparently they were offended because we told them it was bugs. I think they want somebody that will come in and confirm that it’s not bugs. Because it would make them look really silly if we come in and tell them we’ve pretty much proven what this is.”

“Anytime there’s a report of any bizarre happening, don’t just take it at face value. Use some critical thinking, go in and investigate it and find out what the facts are.”

The Huffington Post also noted skeptic Phil Plait on his blog Bad Astronomy saying, ”I know: UFO means Unidentified Flying Object, and since no one could identify them, these are by definition UFOs. Except they aren’t. They’re insects.”

I don’t doubt that strange things have been caught on camera, but this is flies. I’ve seen flies appear on my videos, and this is what they look like, and how they move.

I’m pretty well convinced that there are UFOs flying around, but that isn’t what’s on this tape.

Minor correction to broadcast statement:

One does NOT usually need to get a permit to fly low-powered R/C model aircraft (which some might call “drones”) under common conditions in most areas. For example, one may need a permit if your craft is to fly out of visual line-of-sight, or is going to go above 400 feet, or is in a controlled area like an arena. Common municipal requirements applied to R/C model enthusiasts, and no federal law applies to the run-of-the-mill hobbyist type R/C flying. One can usually fly an R/C model aircraft without a permit.

Personally, I’d suggest “bugs” for this particular sighting…especially as they are adjacent to if not in an obviously agricultural area.

@cast you mit be right if that is so tho why not also include all gods than (by the way the indains lived there gods came from the sky and if you look at the statues of them 1 could argue that they wearing spacesuits.some also believed they came from the ground or moutains.as for old ruins there are places that looked too have been ports or landing sots for crafts. now so remind you no 1 knows how easer island or the pymains were made.now if god is a alien that brought humans with him i wouldexplain howhumans lived to be hundreds and hundreds of years old.(humans were on avg 7 pus ft tall and lived a few hundreds of years it would be due to humans not used too earths grav force)now off hand i can think of 1 verse that could be looked at as a alien craft it was of job being lifted to the sky by a chariot of fire(which is how many earlier folks usedto decribe alien craft

Simple test: Go to the same spot, same time of day, same camera, put up a screen 10 feet away from the camera, if the UFO’s show up between the camera and the screen (at the same size) you probably got insects.

That’s because it’s out of focus, genius… aspherical lenses with bladed irises change the shape of things not in the focal plane. It even has a name: Bokeh. The shape changes depending on the amount of blades. I prefer 9, myself.

This is how these stories stay alive: Call in niche experts and expect them to explain everything, when the phenomenon is a combination of several factors.

believe what you want too but aliens/ufos have been sighted since the dawn of time here on earth.(someof the most famous art of the last supperand many others quess what had disc shapped ufos in them) as for the gov telling us that ufo are real haha. 1.people arnt ready to see that we are second rate too aliens (yes they would be alot smarter than us) 2 mostof all the religons on earth would be debuked( could you imagine that billions of people reliezed that no god exist it would be mass killing/suddices

  If there are aliens,God made them also,He created every thing that was made.As a matter of fact God is an extraterrestrial. He was here BEFORE He made the Earth was made. Now I certainly don’t believe He is a little greenman,but He created the universe and everything in it. The Bible doesn’t address the alien thing because that has absolutely nothing to do with how we are to worship Him and His son,The Lord Jesus Christ.   @yougottabekidding: Ah, the age-old argument that the universe is so vast that it MUST contain intelligent life somewhere other than Earth. Trouble is, the laws of physics are immutable and constant. They apply to everything in the universe, and therefore dictate that interstellar travel via lightspeed (the only effective way to get from one galaxy to another in any reasonable amount of time) is impossible. And if the intelligent aliens could “beam themselves up” to Earth a la Star Trek, why would they need to fly around in tin cans?

  I doubt we re being visited. And if we re then we are most likely screwed. Any intelligent life will likely be like us. their planet’s apex predators so means aggressive like us. If they came here they’d likely not be looking to chat with us. they’d be looking for natural resources that any technologically advanced civilization would be hungry for. Them coming here would be similar to what happened with the Europeans set foot in the Americas but only more one sided. I have to laugh when people automatically assume alines when they see something in the sky they aren’t familiar with.

  Searcher, that is not likely at all. Any civilization advanced enough to get here would have the means to harvest resources from the depths of space in volumes many order of magnitude larger than the whole of the earth. Asteroids, dust clouds, comets, uninhabitable worlds, etc… There would be no need for the paltry resources on this puny backwater world. If they were here it would likely be for curiosities sake alone.
  
  Even our species with its limited technology is already investigating the mining of the asteroid belt which we know would provide resources far more vast in scale than anything we have already found here on earth.
  
  Not to say there might not be a hostile species out there, but it wont be over our resources.
