Tense Exchange: What Did These Two NFL Coaches Say During a Post-Game Handshake That Has Many Speculating?

Steelers Coach Mike Tomlin and Ravens Coach John Harbaugh Have Tense Exchange Following Game

Baltimore Ravens head coach John Harbaugh and Pittsburgh Steelers head coach Mike Tomlin talk before an NFL football game on Sunday, Nov. 18, 2012, in Pittsburgh. (Credit: AP)

NFL fans know that the division rivalry between the Pittsburgh Steelers and Baltimore Ravens can get pretty intense — between the players, the fans and even the coaches.

The two teams played on Sunday and after the game had been called, Steelers coach Mike Tomlin and Ravens coach John Harbaugh met in the middle of the field at M&T Bank Stadium in Baltimore to shake hands. However, the seemingly routine gesture resulted in a tense and awkward exchange between the two coaches.

While shaking his opponents hand, Tomlin barely looks in Harbaugh’s direction. Apparently not happy with the lack of attention, Harbaugh, whose team lost 23-20, proceeded to pull Tomlin back towards him and told him “congratulations” for a second time, looking him straight in the eye.

“Hey, hey, hey,” Harbaugh appears to say. “Congratulations.”

“Thank you, good job,” Tomlin seems to reply with little expression. However, there has been some speculation that he said “Thank you, that’s all” or even something else.

As the two part ways, Harbaugh shoots Tomlin a few more unfriendly stares. To be sure, neither coach ever appeared happy to be in the other’s presence.

Watch the clip below:

What do you think he said?

Ray Lewis and Terrell Suggs are the icons of thuggery in the NFL, and you have the limp sack to call out the Steelers!?!?

Tomlin has been a well respected coach in the NFL for a long time, longer than the Harbaughs at least. The only reason that handshake was a problem, was because Harbaugh made it one. Ratbirds and Steelers will never get alone, like Liberal Dirtbags and the TEA party, keep that crap out of our yard, we have more important things to take care of.

Lol…before bringing in Plaxico to fill in for an injured offensive line, there was absolutely no one on the roster with a prison record. Holmes, Jeff Reed, Ta’amu…all let go because of misbehavior. Even Ben was suspended for six games for his misbehavior and he wasn’t even arrested or charged for anything.

The Rooney’s don’t tolerate no thuggery. You have no idea what you are talking about.

If you want to compare teams with “thugs,” Baltimore (or whoever you support) is unlikely a good choice.

The NFL is rigged. It is just entertainment. Just like WWF. Fake. They love the NFL because it keeps every one distracted. And Roger Goodell went to college in pittsburgh. People he went to school with said he was a die hard Steelers fan…. most of the NFL leaders are Steelers fans… I wonder why they are one of the top teams in NFL history. hmmmm

You guys ought to jump back and check yourselves. It’s the biggest rivalry in the NFL that started in Cleveland and moved with Art Model when he snuck the team out of town to Baltimore. Both teams despised each other when they were at Cleveland and it lives on still.

It was that way in high school as well. Did any of us that played sports growing up, truly believe in the “good game” B.S.? It was all a show for sportsmanship. We did it because we were told to. In fact, no sooner the whistle blew, I wanted to kick their butt so badly, I had a hard time holding it back sometimes. Especially against a rival!

RLTW — Roethlisberger was never convicted of rape. I thought in America it was innocent until proven guilty? Besides, he was married almost two years after the charges were made, so I guess your “he got married to make himself look good” arguement doesn’t hold water. I know this is difficult for you to wrap your judgemental little head around, but it’s possible that some people change. Besides, I don’t see you ripping Ray Lewis for being a murderer… why not? Because he was never convicted?

RLTW, Women target pro atheltes all the time. If there was any evidence that he was guilty of sexual assault then he would of been charged and convicted, but he wasn’t and that is a fact. Did Rothlisberger make mistakes allowing his little head to over rule his big head? Yep. Did he sexually assault these women? Nope. These women thought that they had hit the gravy train when they hooked up with him but when he spurned them suddenly he attacked them. Come on man wake up. This same thing happened to Jerome Bettis as well but when the police looked into his accusers past they saw that she had a history of fabricating charges. You’re just a hater. Oh and it wasn’t 6 months later that he got married either so get your FACTS straight champ, or should I say chump.

Harbaugh and his brother are doing some solid work with their respective teams, but this isn’t the first time there have been theaterics about a stupid end of game handshake.

i don’t know what Harbaugh expects, but he needs to cool it. The hand shake was performed, nobody needs to get all weepy, and Tomlin wasn’t rubbing in the loss, so take what’s offered, then go back and start to work on next week.

Harbaugh “needs” to cool it? Why would he “need” to cool it? If he “needs” to then why doesn’t he? Need is the most improperly used word in the english language…what you meant to say is you have some sort of need for Harbaugh to cool it because if Harbaugh really had a “need” I am sure he would do something to satisfy that it.
