Conflict of Interest? MSNBC Hosts & Other ‘Influential Progressives’ Visit White House to Discuss Tax Policy

If MSNBC President Phil Griffin really does want to shake the network’s pro-Obama image, having its most recognizable figures visit the White House to discuss President Barack Obama’s tax proposals isn’t exactly a great start.

On Tuesday, four of MSNBC’s prime time TV hosts were spotted entering the West Wing of the White House for a special meeting with the president. These hosts included, Ed Schultz, Rachel Maddow, Al Sharpton and Lawrence O’Donnell. Interestingly, Chris Matthews, a notoriously enthusiastic Obama supporter, was not included on the guest list.

Schultz confirmed that he would be meeting with Obama via his official Twitter account to discuss the “fiscal cliff.”

“This afternoon at the White House, the President met with influential progressives to talk about the importance of preventing a tax increase on middle class families, strengthening our economy and adopting a balanced approach to deficit reduction,” White House Principal Deputy Press Secretary Josh Earnest said in a statement.

Huffington Post reporter Jennifer Bendery reported that a White House spokesperson said Obama scheduled the meeting with Maddow and “other progressives” to discuss the “importance of extending the Bush middle-class tax cut.”

Mediaite reports, citing a source familiar with the meeting, that other “progressive media” members were in attendance on Tuesday, including staffers from the Washington Post, Daily Kos, and HuffPo.

As previously mentioned, MSNBC’s president told the Huffington Post that he wants to shake the network’s pro-Obama image. How do you think it’s going so far?

    Man, The White House has really become a dump in the last four years. Im glad I was privileged enough to visit it when it was still a place to be honored as a symbol of freedom. After this bunch has defiled it,its not even worth looking at anymore.

      What exists right now is NO DIFFERENT than when our Founders were being abused by the British Monarchy. The King and his field marshals & generals learned to fear the Patriots who founded this country.

      We are endowed by our creator with certain unalienable rights as a FREE PEOPLE.
      Our current government has designs to, and essentially has succeeded in stealing this away from you.
      It is very clear they intend to tax & spend this once proud nation into obliteration. Their purposeful intention is to crash this economy and the country. They’re taking everything you’ve ever had and everything you ever hoped to have in the future.

      They have REFUSED to even pass a BUDGET for over 4 years which is in itself ILLEGAL.
      Now they’re proposing unlimited debt increases by executive fiat.

      What more proof do you need?

      Here is a meeting Bush had with Sean Hannity, Laura Ingraham, Neal Boortz, Mike Gallagher, and Michael Medved in the OVAL OFFICE. Bush felt he wasn’t getting enough support from the conservative media. I twas reported Rush was invited but he couldn’t make it.

      Cool…you CAN read a thesaurus. For what it’s worth, I’m retired. I have been for almost 4 years now and have touched neither my Social Security nor withdrawn money from my 3 IRAs. I worked hard in my chosen field for almost 40 years, set up accounts for retirement, travel and the kids’ college. When I got paid, money went into these accounts first…then the bills got paid. It’s very easy to become wealthy slowly but that’s another matter. Also, I have worked for the government. I had seasonal jobs that were ag related during the harvests of 1973 and 1974. Ain’t worked for ‘em since…

      @Commonsenseguy, I think you have your “facts” about Welfare and Food Stamps backwards. The poorest states, receiving the most Federal aid are the Red states. Of the top ten states receiving Food Stamps, with 20% or more of their population receiving them, six of the ten are Red states: Louisiana, Mississippi, Tennesee, W.Virginia, Kentucky and South Carolina. The Blue states on the list: Oregon, Michigan, New Mexico and Maine.
