Former NYT Reporter: Jeremiah Wright Is a Christ-Like Figure, and ‘White’ Romans Killed Jesus ‘Who Was a Person of Color’
Chris Hedges, author and former New York Times writer for fifteen years, had some interesting references to make about President Obama’s former minister, Jeremiah Wright. Hedges, who is a friend of Wright, spoke to an audience in Chicago last month. Hedges describes the controversial pastors struggles with a Christ-like allegory:
“[Dr. Wright] bent down and picked up the cross. He felt the weight dig into his shoulders. He placed the crown of thorns on his head. He started down the hard road, walked by the preachers and saints before him. The road walked by Martin and Malcolm. The road that still has the footprints of our Lord. He heard again the words of ridicule and derision, because the Romans were sore, sore afraid. … He embodies within him the power and the glory Satan cannot break. In the gospel of Matthew when Satan left Jesus … angels came to Jesus and anointed Jesus to preach the word of God. And that word tonight, in the preacher before us, lives and breathes, and so do the angels who stand by him.”
Hedges also referenced a former Wright sermon, repeating the assertion that Jesus was persecuted and eventually killed by white Romans:
“The Romans, who Dr. Wright correctly reminds us were white — it was Jesus who was a person of color — don’t like preachers any more today than they did two-thousand years ago.”
The speech was recorded at the Newberry Library in Chicago on November 12, 2012. Rev. Wright was in attendance. This clip was from a larger lecture on “poverty in the U.S.” put on by the Lannan Foundation.

You would think that a person of color refers to more than black people. But I know Asians that have applied for a minority program who have been denied. there are only so much spoils of war/politics to divvy up.
Jesus might have looked like a Greek, Roman, Iberian or some modern day Hispanics. Would an Iberian be considered a person of color? Person of color in this day in age is just taking the one drop rule standing it on its’ head & using it for the same purposes as the white racists used it for. The group using it has changed but the method is the same.

Posted on December 4, 2012 at 6:27pmHello, please calm down. Jesus was a Jewish person. He was not white, he was Aramaic. For some silly reason we are also called Caucasians or Aryans. Caucasians come from the small area between the Caspian and Black Seas. Aryans are classic northwestern folks from India. My family was from northern England, just south of the Scotish border. All the folks there are white with blond (former vikings) red, or chestnut colored ****. This part of England was raided many times by Vikings and the Rus (russian tribes). It was also the very first part of old england to become Christian, due primarily to the missionaries from Ireland at Lindesfarne on the north sea. In my mind, and I have been to Israel seven or eight times and love Israel and Israeli people today, I imagine that Jesus looked like a local Aramaic person of the day. Maybe he looked just like Yassir Arafat, the Palestinian leader. That’s what I think personally. Jesus looked like Yassir Arafat in my mind and heart. But so what. The creator of the universe did not and didn’t need to look like the white guy in the bibles. The soft, pretty, lovely, handsome, person shown in old bibles. I think he may have looked rough and plain. Matches his birth. The Lord of All, did not look pretty. Jesus is the Lord of all. But when he began his ministry , and was filled with the Holy Spirit, then noone cared at all about how he looked. They were most likely overcome by the Holy Spirit in Him.

Posted on December 4, 2012 at 6:28pmWhen people start pointing fingers at those who crucified Christ, they demonstrate their complete lack of understanding about Jesus’ crucifixion. First off, nobody took Jesus’ life from him, he gave it up freely. Second, it was the crucifixion of Jesus that paid for the sins of mankind. Who nailed Christ to the Cross is irrelevant, what you believe about the crucifixion of Jesus is of eternal importance.
—–
“The Father loves me because I give my life. I give my life so that I can get it back again. No person takes my life away from me. I give my own life freely. I have the right to give my life. And I have the right to get it back again. This is what the Father told me.” (John 10:17-18)
“That if you shall confess with your mouth the Lord Jesus, and shall believe in your heart that God has raised him from the dead, you shall be saved.” (Romans 10:9)

Posted on December 4, 2012 at 7:11pmObama is not the Antichrist. When the Antichrist comes, then if you are of one biblical view, pre-millennial views for dispensational truth , then you should know about end times and the beast. Yes, Obama may not love america, our people, and he is headed to extreme wealth creation after being prezzy for eight years. Good riddance, just give him money to go away. Obama is in it for the money and the fame and the celebrity. And yes he hates almost all Americans and everything about us regular folks who are “clinging” to our God and our guns. He is just another “shake down” hustle person, but he got to be our leader by deceit and fraudulent voting. If you truely believe in pre-millennial revelation, then you should think about the mark of the beast. The mark that will not allow folks to “buy or sell” anything in our economy without the mark of the beast. On the arm and on the head. For a long time many have tried to speculate about what the mark of the beast was in our current world. My view, God has more surprises for us that we don’t yet understand. In the meantime, why can’t we just do what our Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ suggests : Love God, with all your heart, all your mind, and also love your neighbor as yourself. This is a tough call for all of us, but the only one that we have now to live by. God bless you and your family.

Posted on December 4, 2012 at 7:35pm@LTB – Not so much the crucifixtion but a combination of both the cross and the resurrection and the defeat of death is what gives us eternal life. It is the combination of Christ’s suffering under God’s wrath on the cross for our sins and then His rising from the grave 3 days later. “So the Jews said to him,”What sign do you show us for doing these things?”Jesus answered them, “Destroy this temple, and in 3 days I will raise it up.” The Jews then said, “It has taken forty-six years to build this temple, and will you raise it up in 3 days?” But he was speaking about the temple of his body (John 2:18-21)

It seems like we’re in agreement that without the crucifixion of Christ there would be no forgiveness of sins (Hebrews 9:22) and just as importantly, if Jesus had not been raised from the dead our faith would be useless (1 Corinthians 15:14).

And without my Savior I, like you, would have to do and not do a laundry list of things to constantly reconcile myself before God The Father.
But since the Lamb erased the relevance of the old law I am held only to the simple law of 10 Commandments to remain free from sin and live as an overcomer of sin and am bound to no man for my salvation from what is otherwise certain death.

Posted on December 4, 2012 at 4:20pmActually the 10 commandments were also part of the Old Law. So we are not bound to those commandments. No, it’s not ok to steal or kill but one cannot separate the 10 commandments and the law of Moses, they all go together. I know the argument some make will probably be brought up so I’ll go ahead and address it. Some will say, “So it’s ok to kill and steal since the 10 commandments are done away with?” No, it’s not ok but understand this, it was wrong to steal and kill BEFORE the 10 commandments and the rest of the law of Moses was given. It was wrong to steal and kill in Abraham’s time, long before Moses was even born or the law was given. Today we are under the perfect law of Christ not under the law of Moses which includes the 10 commandments they cannot be separated at all (being one of those is the Sabbath so question is do you rest on Saturday as per the commands in the law of Moses?)

So the 10 Commandments are still valid today as they were the day Moses brought them to the Hebrew Nation in the Desert of Sinai. Jesus only simplified mans understanding of the 10 Commandments because when you look at them the first 4 deal with Mankind’s relationship with God, the next 6 deal with Mankind’s relationship with each other.

Posted on December 5, 2012 at 1:04am1TrueOne55- That is right Jesus did fulfill the law. So my question is If you fulfill something are you bound to it any longer thereafter? If you say yes then it isn’t fulfilled, it is still incomplete. I recommend reading 2 Corinthians 3:3-11. Paul discusses that which was glorious (engraved on stones- 10 commandments) was passing away. Colossians 2:14 says that Christ “wiped out the handwriting of requirements that was against us.” In Ephesians 2:14-15 it states that Christ has “broken down the middle wall of separation” and “abolished in His flesh the enmity, that is, the LAW OF COMMANDMENTS contained in ordinaces…” But if you still believe the 10 commandments are valid for us to live under then again I ask, do you keep the Sabbath to the letter of the law? You can’t simply say “I’m doing no work today” I mean you have to make sure your meals are made before the Sabbath and you have to strictly follow the guidelines laid out in the Old Testament. As I have said if one thinks we are still under the 10 commandments then they must realize they are to keep ALL of the commandments not just those they pick and choose.

No where in that story does his skin color come into play, nor should it…
But no matter WHAT you believe… Mr. Wright is NOTHING like the man that many celebrate as the “Son of God”… Personally, I am not sure I believe that, but I WILL say that all records of Jesus state that he was a pretty good guy, who cared about his fellow man… The same CANNOT be said about Jeremiah Wright, who everyone knows is one of the most racist pieces of trash to EVER grace this planet….

Bottom line, he equates Wright with Christ and states that white people killed Christ. Yes, only in the sense that Romans carried out His crucifixion. Jews were not allowed to enact capital punishment. Christ was put to death as a result of the insistence of Jewish religious leaders. There was nothing racist about it.
And oh, by the way, Jesus rose from the dead. I doubt Mr. Hedges (or anyone else at Harvard Divinity) believes that.

Posted on December 4, 2012 at 4:16pmHAPPY BIRTHDAY KEATON!!! How does it feel to be on the Blaze for the first time? BTW I don’t care what color a person is I have black friends, I have white friends, I even have Asian friends(moved here from the Philippines). All I care about is how a person acts, you sir/ma’am are acting like someone who isn’t secure enough in themselves and have to rely on a label someone else has created. Am I white well yeah I don’t have enough Native American in me to qualify for a scholarship so I mark Caucasian.

Posted on December 4, 2012 at 4:37pmKeatonc33 – you are so off the wall. Most of us like Col. West, Mia Love and Marco Rubio, etc., all persons of color. We care about their agenda, not the color of their skin. Obama won reelection, I don’t get all this racist crap. What are you trying to stir up? What do you want? More handouts?

Posted on December 4, 2012 at 3:36pmUm….Jesus was Jewish. I’m pretty sure that doesn’t link him directly to African-Americans who were brought over to the US as slaves. Of course, Wright’s job is based on keeping the racist dialogue going– keep beating the dead horse of racism even though it doesn’t really exist at all anymore. The election of Obama proves that the US is not a racist country, but they still inject race into areas where it doesn’t exist. What a shame. They could be uplifting and uniting communities, but they’re dividing and separating them.

Posted on December 4, 2012 at 5:47pmIf racism is dead in america or white on black racism as you say why did the blaze run an article on a kkk rally that was held and disrupted by people dressed like clowns. Obama being potus does not eliminate racism. You should get out of your house sometime. Its a beautiful world.

Posted on December 4, 2012 at 4:25pmIf you really want to know what is going on watch The Harbinger on DVD..Isaiah 9:10. If you watch this you will see that until this Nation turns it’s face to God we are under His judgement and our leaders brought it on this Nation (unknowinly) and they still don’t get it. Watch the DVD and you will have to agree this is all in prophesy. You can also read the book and there are references in the back of the book to back up the facts.

Posted on December 4, 2012 at 3:30pmOh, enough already with the ridiculous racial crap!
I can guarantee that Jesus would never use His Father’s name as a slur or in swearing phrase during a racist rant. And Jesus is not racist against whites either.
What am I doing dignifying this stupid comment with a reply anyway………………

Posted on December 5, 2012 at 9:12amObama AND Reverend Wright? I’m confused. Are they both Jesus? Maybe there are others too. Perhaps Time needs to run a Jesus of the Year Contest to sort this out. One of the rules for nominees: You have to be black. On the cover there would a group shot of all the aspiring Jesuses with halos and a headline that reads, “Pick the New Jesus.”
(If claims that Obama or Wright are Jesus seem profane, that’s because they are. Both of them have agendas that stray so far from Jesus’s teachings, it’s ridiculous. For one thing, Jesus didn’t go around preaching that you should steal property from one person in order to give it to another.)

Posted on December 4, 2012 at 9:34pmThe “world” is not nuts, people in the world are nuts. The world is waiting to be redeemed and returned to it’s perfect state through the second coming of the Messiah Jesus.
Jesus was Jewish (Jewish mother). Jesus was God (through the power of the Holy Spirit). Jesus died in payment for my sins and all the sins of the world and its people, but will only be accepted by those who believe in Him (if they have had an opportunity to learn of Him, otherwise as St. Paul says, even nature screams of the existence of God!).
Those who are making theatrical statements and claims, I believe are possessed by the spirit of the antiChrist. They are NOT the antiChrist, but they are being used to prepare the way for the antiChrist.
We’ve known for over 2000 years that these times would come. I’m honored to be living in these times to watch those who give in to the rediculousness. And I am sad that I may have to be martyred for what I believe and Who is my Lord and Savior, Jesus the Christ, the Son of God also known as The Word, through the Holy Spirit.
These are exciting and terrible times. The world needs evangelization more now than ever!
Maranatha, alleluia!
