Why Is Anderson Cooper Wearing an Eye Patch and Looking Miserable in This Photo?
LOS ANGELES (TheBlaze/AP) — Anderson Cooper says a reporting assignment turned into a temporary blindness scare.
On his talk show Tuesday, Cooper said he was in Portugal last week working on a story for “60 Minutes” and spent two hours on the water. The newsman says that later, he developed a burning sensation in his eyes and lost sight for 36 hours.
Showing a photo he took of himself with an eye patch, Cooper joked it would be his new online dating picture.
On a more serious note, Cooper said he wanted to warn viewers about the risk.
Dr. Nancy Snyderman, chief medical correspondent for NBC News, explained to Cooper he had suffered a retina burn. Snyderman cautioned that “everybody needs sunglasses,” adding that protection from the sun can prevent cataracts later in life.
Cooper explains his unfortunate incident on “Anderson Live” today:
In CONTROL, Glenn Beck presents a passionate, fact-based case for guns that reveals why gun control isn’t really about controlling guns at all; it’s about controlling us. Find out more HERE.

Posted on December 4, 2012 at 10:41pmThat is what I thought at first..Anderson Cooper..so many women swooning over him and they freak out when I tell them he is gay..For there are those who made themselves unuchs for the Lord.. and they will be the ones who rule with Him..never having defiled themselves with a woman..but gay people do one better..they may not defile themselves with the opposite sex..but they commit abominations (homosexuality).. before the Lord. Looks more like Anderson got punched in the eye..

It is a teachable moment. Not everyone needs to be taught this, but I bet there a millions that need reminding or taught in the 1st place.
In Australia part of the gear kindergartners are required to have is sunglasses. Its damage over time & by taking action now we’ll see less cataract in a person’s 60s, 70 & 80s. Many people wouldn’t consider giving a kindergartner sun glasses because it used to be a “luxury item”. They are afraid that kids would lose them. Some Kids sunglasses use to be harmful because they were merely tined & so dilated the pupil allowing my UV radiation to enter. So when the became more popular for small kids it was mainly as a fashion statement that parents found out was actually harming their kids.
So I will ask you how many parents tell their kids to buckle up a\out of safety concerns?
Now I ask you how many parents made sure their kids had sunglasses or lectured kids about the need for them? I bet it is much less.
Life is no longer as nasty, brutish & short as it used to be. So now problems that cause damage over time is of concern. Strike that thought. Life is still just as nasty & brutish as yesteryear. The elections have shown us that.

Posted on December 4, 2012 at 9:52pmSay how much of this “blue light is harmful to the retina” is just scare tactics to sell more sunglasses?
All the major eyeglass retailers tell people they need to buy sunglasses for uv protection when they are already wearing non-tinted 100% uv absorbing polycarbonate lenses or hi index lenses with a uv absorbing coating. Recently Crizal’s research is showing sunglasses without a backside antireflection coating act like a mirror reflecting up to 40% of uv light into the eye when the person isn’t even facing the sun. Seems like a whole lot of people are getting suckered into spending extra money on an extra pair of sunglasses that don’t provide more uv protection.
