Worlds Oldest Woman Besse Cooper Dies at Age 116 in Georgia

(AP)

MONROE, Ga. (TheBlaze/AP) — The woman who was listed as the world’s oldest person has died in a Georgia nursing home at age 116.

Besse Cooper died peacefully Tuesday afternoon in Monroe, according to her son Sidney Cooper.

Cooper says his mother had been ill recently with a stomach virus, then felt better on Monday. On Tuesday he said she had her hair set and watched a Christmas video, but later had trouble breathing. He said she was put on oxygen in her room and died there about 2 p.m.

She was declared the world’s oldest person in January. In May, Guinness World Records learned that Maria Gomes Valentin of Brazil was 48 days older. Valentin died June 21.

A Guinness official says the title now belongs to 115-year-old Dina Manfredini, of Johnston, Iowa.

I am in my later years also. It is sad that we had to see our country turn socialist and know that our kids will not have the freedoms or opportunities that we did before we die.

I am betting that the last thoughts that went through her mind were:
Lord, I am tired. It’s been a great life, thank you for it but I am getting tired and weary, It was many years after I left home that papa bought a tractor to help on the farm. Shucks when I was real small we did not know what a tractor was, then came an automobile, I had almost grown children of my own by the time we owned our first one. That was a grand old day when we looked in the sky and saw that new fangled flying machine. Papa spent a whole dollar, an entire days pay for us to get a ride in one.
I was 21 years old and had started my own family when I got the awful news that my younger brother was killed in France by mustard gas in WWI. And I remember the following year how I lost my baby sister and my beloved aunt to the great flu epidemic of 1918. Living and raising a family in rural Georgia during the dust bowl, and the great depression. Lord I don’t know how we would ever made it without your help. I remember reading about that old Joe Stalling coming to power in 1922 and starving 40 or 50 million of his own people by creating a great famine. Oh yes, and I remember very well those Jewish and Italian refugees that came ashore carrying nothing but a suitcase held with a piece of rope. They all had great big smiles knowing that the future was brighter than their past. How can I forget that Adolph fellow that started WWII. Lord help me forgive that Adolph fellow it was his old war th

The Bible says that God had created Man “in His own image and likeness.”
This nice 116-year old Lady died fast and peacefully. Pace et requium est.
I am “only” 71-year old, suffering the end stage emphysema, 24/7 on oxygen and almost all time on Bi-PAP machine, dying already two months in terrible excruciation, causing sorrow to my relatives and friends.
Why on Earth should it be believed that God did a good job?

Actually they had electricity in the 1890′s. I remember reading that Louisiana had street lights in 1893 or close. I have a great Uncle born that year so I took note. I don’t think they had electricity in homes at that time. Ice makers have been around much longer. She watched all these things happen. Americans have been busy for the last 75 years. It is really amazing when you think about it.

      @ Willingtoup

Your attempt at racist remarks is overshadowed only by your IGNORANT mis-spelling of “corps” — you MORON!!

      Look it up.

(*Hint: There’s an ‘e’ at the end)

I always wonder if there is some kind of “secret” for someone living so long. It seems that some drink and smoke cigarettes, while other’s don’t. I sort of believe that it’s the luck of the draw. It depends on what genes you’re born with.

Wow — to think that she was alive during the Victorian Era. She was easily an adult when the Roaring ’20s hit and a “middle age” woman when WWII ended. Amazing.

No, that’s what happens when you eat junk/fast food and drink your water with fluoride. SHE obviously didn’t. Probably ate from the local farmers market too. NO GMO’s. Woo!

No prescription or over the counter drugs. My grandmother lived to the age of 98. When she was 96 she had not been to the doctor in 6 years. Never took over the counter meds unless it was absolutely necessary. As soon as her health insurance changed and she had the required physical they put her on medication. They set her up for a Mammogram and she told them to drop dead. That was the end of that. The Lipitor she took damaged her liver.
