Detroit Councilwoman’s Actual Rant: We Voted for You, Obama, Now Give Us Some of That Gov’t ‘Bacon’
Speaking before the Detroit City Council on Tuesday, Councilwoman JoAnn Watson said President Barack Obama owes the ailing city a government bailout because its residents supported him in the 2012 presidential election.
“Our people in an overwhelming way supported the re-election of this president and there ought to be a quid pro quo and you ought to exercise leadership on that,” said Watson, according to FOX 2 Detroit. “Of course, not just that, but why not?”
“After the election of Jimmy Carter, the honorable Coleman Alexander Young [Detroitβs former mayor of 20 years and former vice chairman of the Democratic National Committee], he went to Washington, D.C. and came home with some bacon,” she added. “That’s what you do.”
As of this writing, the White House has announced no plans to bailout the crumbling Motor City.
But, you know, this video got us thinking: Following the 2012 presidential election, former Massachusetts Gov. Mitt Romney and talk radio host Rush Limbaugh were savaged by top GOP leaders for saying President Barack Obama won because he promised to give people βfreeβ stuff.
Romney accused the president of promising βgiftsβ to minorities, young voters, and women, while Limbaugh dubbed the president βBaracka Clausβ (a play on βSanta Clausβ).
“In a nation of children,β said Limbaugh, βSanta Claus wins.β
βItβs a proven political strategy, which is give a bunch of money to a group and, guess what, theyβll vote for you,β said Romney.
Romney continued:
What the president did is he gave them two things. One, he gave them a big gift on immigration with the DREAM Act amnesty program, which was obviously very, very popular with Hispanic voters, and then number two was Obamacare β¦ For a home earning β letβs say $30,000 a year β free health care, which is worth about $10,000 a year, I mean itβs massive, itβs huge. So this β he did two very popular things for the Hispanic community.
Exit Question: Given the βtit-for-tatβ sentiments expressed by the Detroit Councilwoman, how far off do you think Limbaugh and Gov. Romney are? That is, is it really so outrageous to say that some people voted for President Obama because they were hoping he’d give them βfreeβ stuff?

Why don’t they just simply pay the taxes for the programs that their elected officials approved ? Raise the taxes for ALL folks living in Detroit until they can fix their fiscal problems. If they are on US welfare schemes or EBTs, then just take their money from their welfare checks and their EBTs and push them out of federally paid for public housing projects until the people of Detroit pay for ALL of their spending requests. Just raise the taxes of folks in Detroit, until and unless, they can meet their fiscal needs without any assistance from anyone else. After all, this is what they voted for. And oh yes, if they need to cancel govt employee pensions, then just knock yourself out. This is the primary source of your problems. Go bankrupt and then cancel all govt employee pensions. Issue solved pretty quick. Pass out some seeds for gardens, and a few chickens, and maybe a cow or two. Let them live like their great parents who never, ever received anything from the US govt in the past. And guess what ? They will be much better off. And their children may begin to appreciate the few things that they deserve , that their families earned through honest labor. Not govt confiscation against other middle class american families who are more like them than the so called rich people.

Even if you are a Democrat constituency will you get as much as the next constituency? Whether you do or don’t will it be enough? Will it be more or less than you could have made for yourself.
People who are not part of the Democrat party or are not high in the pecking order of Democrat politics will get less than those on top. They will be dispirited. The will produce less because increasing amounts of what they make will be “legally” stolen. So there will be less to tax, because there be less overall.
Is this the world you want to live in? Instead of fighting with swords & clubs you fight with ballots? Whoever wins divvies up the spoils.Ballots might be less bloody but it is violence none the less to look at elections as something to win in order to loot.

There is Detroit with abandoned businesses and homes, street people, potholed unrepaired roads and drugs on every corner. The alternative universe is Grosse Pointe Farms. Grosse Pointe Farms has paved roads, large well tended homes, well paved streets and a police force that has at least 2 patrol cars at the street intersection between Detroit and Grosse Pointe Farms.

You should get off your fat arse and move to where the work is. There is no reason why I should pay to keep a city alive that has no economic reason for being. But as most of the population is on welfare there are not enough taxes being collected to support the government needed for the number of people living there.
It is this sort of thing that is going to force the revolution.

I tried very hard to convince my daughter and family to move there where they would have better economic advantages and a huge sense of community. For some reason, they insist on trying to make a living in Boston, MA (one of the most expensive places to live). Some people just won’t leave what’s familiar and seek opportunity elsewhere. You’ve got to move to where the jobs are people!!!
