Posted on December 6, 2012 at 8:24amWe have back packs ready for emergency walk away and I use a tread mill wearing it and do 5 to 10 miles daily as I exercise .. Things like rain gear – dry lint saved in egg cartons for lint fires ,, we grow our own food and save water that is for home stay,, cheap and easy stored food dry beans – rice old steel helmet you can cook in outside ,,, Buy good cast iron .. we are lucky we have 2 wood burning fireplaces for back up heat ,, I store flour and taught myself to bake cast iron artisan bread inside or outside . I am lucky that my husband is a Marine and we both know you can only carry so much ammo plus the same with carrying only so many weapons ,,so learn your weapon be one with it,, dont care if its a 22 – ar15 KNOW it become an expert with it … You plan for a house fire ? Then plan an escape route if need be let your family understand where to meet if need be .. This sounds extreme but being safe is never a wrong thing to plan for … Merry Christmas to all and God Bless

Posted on December 6, 2012 at 7:52amTomahawk and 72 hour kit (food, fuel, first-aid, shelter, misc).
Every kit is going to be different depending on where you live.
If you’re in very rural country you’re likely gonna need alot of portability (weight) & multi-utility. You better be ready for adventure….but you’re probably safe where you are unless you don’t have alot of food & water.
If you’re in the urban or sub-urban area’s you can probably carry more weight, unless there is an WMD or EMP that destroys transportation. (unless you have a bike or skateboard…yes, I said skateboard…but I’d go with the Bike)

Posted on December 6, 2012 at 6:22amPerfect your skills people. Having good skills will save you and your familly. I tell the new gun owners to buy a couple boxes of crappy ammo to break in new guns. I say let it jam so you know what to do when it happens. Start a fire without matches, the lint in your pocket can help and so can a battery and steel whole. (dryer lint is a good fire starter) Can you make simple repairs to your vehicle? The fact is that a gun, knife, screw driver, roll of tape, and almost anything you can think of are all tools to someone with skills. You don’t have to be Macgyver but having skills makes you useful to others so I tell my group “Protect your quarterback”. The list goes on and on but you get my drift. Learning new skills and teaching them to others so they can be useful too is a gift to your fellow man that when returned in kind is priceless

Posted on December 6, 2012 at 1:27amI find it so sad that I realize how unprepared we are; yet those that have been allowed to see what we are up to see us as ‘ultra-preppers’ and very prepared. A large part of that is location and house type.

Posted on December 6, 2012 at 4:48amBack in the early ’80s when all of those fire starter sets and lifeboat matches started to get popular, I read an article that suggested simply keeping a number of butane lighters handy. Although I have never smoked anything in my life, I do have a number of butane lighters handy and one in a pocket at all times. Far easier to start a flame than all of those tricks on Dual Survival and other shows along with similar other magazine articles.
HATCHIMON is right about that Ka Bar. Excellent knife. I am retired Army, but have kept a Ka Bar handy in my gear or on my LBE also since the early ’80s. Have had a few Gerber Multi Tools too, but the earliest version seems to be the strongest and longest lasting. Have used that thing from being in the backwoods to cutting plastic body parts at a traffic accident.

Posted on December 6, 2012 at 12:00amSeal survival guide should be NOT to serve under the campaigner N thief since he wants to kill them all. He has succeeded in killing far too many of them through his leaks his policies & I think intentionally sending them into ambushes with faulty equipment. Bring the boys home for now.

Posted on December 5, 2012 at 11:54pmGood advice on thinking about which items you might have access that can be used as weapons. Mentally rehearsing using the improvised weapons is as important as actual physical drills as you can mentally rehearse being attacked and your response 24/7 any place you happen to be. If an attack does take place, it will not take you by total surprise, allowing you a better chance to respond and survive.
