Real-Life Grinch? Texas Teacher Tells Kindergarteners Santa Is Fake

AP
An Austin, Texas afterschool teacher has one kindergartener’s parents furious after she told students Santa Claus was fake, the Houston Press reported.
Susan Tietz Gammage said her 5-year-old daughter, Aven, came home from Pease Elementary School last week and asked if what Mrs. Fuller said was true.
“She said ‘None of you believe in Santa do you?’ and said that you and mommy buy all our presents and put them under the tree. She said that you should tell us the truth,” Gammage said her daughter told them.
Gammage said coming clean about Claus is definitely not the school’s place: “Another adult has no right to submit their own beliefs on a group of 5-year-olds and their families — about Santa, God, politics or whatever — especially phrased ‘your belief is not right,’” she wrote on her Facebook page.
“To break that harsh reality to them in such a brutal way is just wrong,” she told the Houston Press. “Especially since these kids are 5. She is just really getting into Santa.”
It’s apparently not just the one teacher who refused to get into the Christmas spirit — Gammage said another parent told her about another teacher who informed a student that their drawing of Santa Claus needed to be labeled imaginary.
Gammage said she contacted the principal, who was “horrified” by what the instructors had done and gave her daughter’s teacher “tools to deal with this situation” in the future.
A woman who answered the phone at Pease Elementary confirmed they had an afterschool teacher named Sonia Fuller on staff, but said she hadn’t heard about the controversy.
Another representative from the school did not immediately return an emailed request for comment from TheBlaze.

I hate liberals ( Yes Lord thats right i HATE them) to rob a child of there innocence and the excitement of Christmas Eve believing that on that night Santa will visit there house and bring them toys, there is only one word that comes to mind (EVIL) I do not see her as a woman anymore she is one of Satan’s minions so by all means if given the chance without going to jail i would cave her skull in.

Posted on December 5, 2012 at 4:00pmThe issue I have is that the teacher is dramatically uninformed. She thinks that Santa is about Presents, Sleighs and Magic Reindeer. That’s a childs view of Santa. That is the magic of Santa for children. Santa is an entirely different matter for adults. There is a point when you shift from beliving in Santa to understanding and becoming ‘Santa’, knowing full well that Santa is a very real part of all of us.
This teacher in espousing her own ignorance destroys the cycle of Santa and just creates bitter, disillusioned children that turn into bitter, disillusioned adults.
The miracle of Santa is that he can turn children beliving in magic into loving, giving, and caring adults that can create magic. It is certainly magic to see the eyes of children light up on Christmas morning.
The teacher is just plain wrong, Santa is very real.

Posted on December 5, 2012 at 9:34pmKEATON – How do you handle Santa and the Tooth Fairy with your 4yr old son?
Back a few weeks ago, you had told me: “… I am thinking of my kid.. its just one.. 4 year old boy.. adorable!”
Don’t you want to be the one to lead and teach your son what’s up in life?
Let’s say that when he goes into kindergarten, I gain his trust, then tell him how he should think and act to not be a liberal thinking individual. That everything that his father believes is wacko.
I know that I do not need to proceed…
Although… I’d wait until he’s a few years older to define wacko. :-)

Posted on December 6, 2012 at 6:27amMy father broke this reality to me at about the same age because he believed “the myth of Santa competes with the ‘reality’ of Jesus” over the Christmas season. It’s for the same reason that my parents did not believe children should “worship the devil” by going trick or treating.
It wasn’t really until recently that Christians have found the Christmas season, and every magical myth associated with it, (including Santa), in need of such protection.
That’s bc atheists are finally attacking the right thing: fun.
Back in my day during the 1980s the roles of Christians and atheists surrounding Christmas were completely flipped, and Christians were usually on the OPPOSITE side of fun.
My first grade teacher tried to restore my faith in Santa but that just earned her a loud complaint from my dad.

So I need to believe in Santa to be loving, teach my children about love, and keep me feeling young. Because I don’t lie about Santa being real I am dead on the inside? I should not celebrate my Savior’s birth? I am a sadistic monster.
Puh…lease. Stop the drama mamma. Santa is just a mythical figure. I can have love, teach my children love, feel young, be alive inside and manage to neither be sadistic nor a monster without him. There is a way to tell your children that Santa is a modern day myth, based on a real man in the past, and then tell them about the real man and about Jesus. Because the holiday is really about Jesus, right????

Posted on December 5, 2012 at 2:43pmIt is not the school’s roll or that teacher’s roll to tell 5 year olds there is no Santa. She should be fired. This ‘santa’ issue is strictly the parent’s domain. Most people have parents who told them Santa was coming with their presents. None of them (I didn’t) consider it a lie when I found Santa was really my parents. Believing in Santa is fun and adds to the mystique of Christmas. Of course you tell the kids of Jesus whose birth is the meaning of the holiday but Santa and the north pole and all of that adds a little fun and excitement for the children. It is stupid and kind of mean to take that fun away from 5 year old.

And then you tell them Jesus is God’s son and He was born on Xmas and He was born to save you from your sin so you could go to heaven when you die.
When they find out you lied about Santa, and the Easter Bunny, and the Tooth Fairy and whatever other mythical figure you’ve convinced them is real, why should they believe you about Jesus? They can’t see Him; they have no proof He is real.

ARE YOU SERIOUS? How stupid do you think children are? Children, when old enough to not believe in Santa, can certainly get the difference between Jesus and Santa. They don’t mix up the myth and the truth. They always get that Santa was there to give them joy when young enough to believe. Most of grateful for the effort put forth to give them that happiness.
If you have kids, or know kids that are that stupid, maybe they SHOULD be told the truth right off. However, I personally cannot think if one example of that kind of dense thinking.

By the time my last one was born, I never taught him these myths. He was fine, I didn’t shove it down his throat or get angry if he talked about it. I just downplayed Santa’s place in this holiday and the same with the Easter Bunny. We just didn’t participate in that part of the holiday. He attended public school since I had no way to do private or homeschool, and when they talked about that stuff he knew the truth but I taught him to keep it to himself in order not to hurt other kids’ feelings.

Hogwash! These are specific Christian celebrations – the birth of the Christ and the death & resurrection of the Christ. I do not see the need to bring in fictional characters to make these very sacred holidays “better” or more fun for children.
Children can imagine things all the time every day, and we can encourage their imaginations in so many other healthier ways that don’t involve lying to them. It just takes more work to find ways for their imaginations to blossom, rather than participate in the Santa myth, which isn’t much work at all.
It won’t ruin my child’s imagination if we don’t believe in Santa in my house. By the time I had my third child I saw the light and never did the Santa thing and he always had a very active imagination that was not harmed by me not telling him lies about Santa. I found many ways to help him.
There are children who, when they find out Santa isn’t real, start to wonder what else their parents lie to them about. My sister had a huge break in her faith in her parents when she found out about Santa. It hurt her for a very long time. I know she can’t be the only one.

Posted on December 5, 2012 at 1:50pmWell if we’re going to go full truth, then the teacher should explain how she’s a parasitic union thug who is feeding on the dying corpse of a once great nation that has been crippled by collectivist ideology and that her class will suffer the rest of their days as wage slaves to feed the needs of the collective. If they are lucky they may rise to the role of a courtesan, but that generally any departure from wage slave status is that of KIA soldier in wars of treasure.
If you’re going to play the honesty card you might as well go all the way with it.

Most replys, mine included; are nice cutting remarks, some funny, some serious, some heavy on the sarcasm. I envision a small sharp knife slicing into the problem presented by the Blaze article.
Your response Roth, was a yard of cold steel plunging into the guts of the issue. It could not be said any better.
HOOAH!
