Greek Schools Now Breeding Grounds for Virulent Neo-Nazism

While a country of great aesthetic beauty and rich cultural history, Greece has, of late, seen better days. With an economy in shambles, rampant corruption and citizens growing increasingly desperate, Greek-discontent is giving way to those with a sinister agenda. Preying on people’s resentment and fears, this once warm and welcoming land has become fertile breeding ground for its Neo-Nazi party, Golden Dawn.

An Associated Foreign Press report reveals that currently, schools in the beleaguered country have fallen prey to the fascist political group as it seeks to recruit the next generation and expand its base. Golden Dawn garnered 400,000 votes in a June election and hosts 18 lawmakers in the 300-seat Greek parliament. Polls indicate that one in 10 Greeks favor Golden Dawn. AFP adds:

In November, a brawl broke out between Albanian and Greek high school pupils on the island of Crete over a Golden Dawn event advertised on Facebook, sending two of them to hospital. [...] A fight had previously broken out at the same school over neo-Nazi slogans found on a blackboard.

What is perhaps most disturbing is that Golden Dawn has been a powerful influence in enforcing the teaching of “accurate” history in Greek schools:

The group denies that students were killed by security forces inside the Athens Polytechnic in 1973, a seminal event considered to have hastened the downfall of the army dictatorship then ruling the country.

And its leader Nikos Michaloliakos has publicly complained that Greek media are ruled by a “Red junta”. [...] During a recent school visit to parliament, one Golden Dawn deputy openly told pupils to resist the “terrorism” of the Left.

In various schools “there are organized gangs harassing foreign pupils and their parents, verbally so far but with an intensity that could at any minute turn into physical violence,” said Kenyan-born journalist Nicodemos Maina Kinyua.

The 35-year-old editor of Athens-based African magazine Asante has lived in Greece since childhood, but told AFP that the country’s school system provides “fertile ground” for neo-Nazism.

“The dominant concept in school is that Greeks invented everything at the time when the rest of humanity was perched on trees, eating acorns,” he said.

And it gets worse. Last month, school officials acquiesced to Golden Dawn pressure and blocked the transfer of a maternity school teacher on the island of Lefkada. Her “crime?” She allegedly decorated her classroom with Greek and Albanian flags just prior to a Greek national holiday.

But these types of displays are going challenged in at least some cases. For instance, disciplinary action is reportedly being pursued in Athens against a high school principal after he threatened to call on Golden Dawn to castigate his pupils.

“This threat is very much in fashion,” one high school teacher who asked to remain anonymous admitted to AFP. She, however, was not condemned by Golden Dawn, but rather her own pupils for her alleged “left-wing sympathies.”

“What is worse is that two-thirds of my colleagues saw this incident as a justifiable dispute over politics,” she said.

Another teacher said it has been a constant battle to keep neo-Nazi sentiment and actions from penetrating the high school.

“Teens are being recruited, particularly those from poor families, and receive a training in theory and paramilitary tactics so that Golden Dawn can pass on the flame,” the teacher, Artemis Kalogyri said at recent anti-racist gathering.

“Most of these youths want to change the world. They see the far-right as the guarantor of Hellenism against the threat of dissolution in which migrants are involved. Most of them want to join the police or the army.”

According to AFP, deputy education minister Theodoros Papatheodorou said Greece must act “without delay.”

“There are sporadic attempts to penetrate schools and intimidate professors and pupils. It emanates either from parents who claim to be Golden Dawn members or from fully-fledged Golden Dawn cadres,” he told AFP.

Greece was never supposed to be the melting pot that America is. Their borders are overrun by ILLEGAL immigration. Honest estimates place illegal immigration at 15 to 22 %.. For a country of only 10 million? This is crazy! The socialist and communist governments have failed over and over again. The country is flat broke and the illegals are costing the country everything. The government hasn’t taken meaningful steps to stop this. In fact, they’ve encouraged it by offering EVERY entitlement possible. So, a group of Greeks have had enough… Greece is for Greeks. That is NOT a hate issue. It’s self defense. Greeks in small villages must now lock their doors for the first time ever, during daylight! Athenians can’t walk through entire patches of the city without being subject to violent crime. Albanians, Asians and Africans have taken root in Greece. The Golden Dawn are NOT Nazis… Greeks hate the Nazis. Nazis destroyed Greece, raped it (over $40 Billion looted in WWII), murdered tens of thousands and starved millions. These Greeks have had enough and are simply saying “Greece is for Greeks”…”If you come here, do so LEGALLY, support yourself, obey our laws and respect our culture.” America needs to heed both current lessons from Greece: Control government spending and control our borders!!!!! Oh, and to those @sswipes that compare Golden to the Tea Party… You are idiots!!! Tea Party has never resorted to or promoted use of violence.

You’re right about Greece not intended to be a melting pot, and you’re right about the problems of illegal immigration, what with Albanians going any and everywhere they can to escape the life (if you wanna call it that) in Albania. I saw it first hand when I lived in Italy. The socialist countries over there offering so many services and “freebies” is a magnet, and we see that in the US; if we had no social welfare programs, there wouldn’t be nearly as big a problem with illegal immigration. The “Greece for Greeks” thing is more natinoalism than Naziism, but both are and have been historically proven to be detrimental to society… and often neighboring countries. Nationalism was at the heart of the propaganda Hitler used to rise to power in Germany, and nationalism is often the breeding ground of racism and other social ills that have terrible consequences on societies. You could easily argue that nationalist movements are rooted in racism, or some sense of national superiority (which is essentially bigotry).

I agree with the sentiment, “Come here freely, obey the laws, support yourself and expect no hand-outs,” but handouts are exactly what socialist countries provide and is a magnet for illegals.

On a final note, the TEA Party does indeed advocate violencein the form of using the state to enforce ‘their’ way of life onto everyone else. Gov does that from behind the barrels of guns. Period. Support for any gov is support for violence.

      Hi AvengerK/KregnevA!
Having a busy day – as usual, with delivering high-schoolers, hitting the health club and taking a gynecologist appointment; but now it’s time to take a break with my I-Pad and cappuccino at the local Starbucks and I thought I’d check in to see how you are doing. It’s Friday and soon you’ll be locked out and unable to use the boss lady’s computer so I just wanted to catch you while you’re still here.
You are actually pretty lucky to still have your job, since employers can still be choosy in a low employment market (even though employment rates are slowly getting better). Many unemployed are that way because they are haters and it comes across in their interviews. By the way, many of these takers owe the rest of society because they actually like not having a job. I am actually considered a job creator – our work group has hired and trained two professionals this year who were totally unemployed and we trained three underemployed workers – that helped them advance at work.

What a great year – four trips to DC representing Veterans projects, High School events, family reunions and weddings, and four special projects at work that provided fairly sizeable bonuses. I received some recognition and lots of thanks this year as well. And the rest of the family had a wonderful year too.
I am just reflecting on all this because I had my salary review yesterday and felt the need to summarize the year. (It’s almost like a second Thanksgiv

Some members of the TEA party do still support limited government, lower taxes etc. But my statements are hardly buffoonery. Would you say the majority of TEA partiers supported Romney even after his proposal to up military spending by $2 trillion? Did they support him despite his support for NDAA2012 indefinite detention, the PATRIOT Act, escalating warfare in the middle east? Is this the less intrusive government the TEA party supports? According to nearly every single TEA partier I had the displeasure of speaking with, they wanted a president who would cut social welfare, would increase military spending, keep drugs and gay marriage illegal, and didn’t care about the expanding police state. So while you may indeed want a limited government and lower taxes like you mentioned, not all TEA partiers do. Even worse, you still want government, despite it’s failures under Republicans and Democrats. You and TEA partiers advocate force being used by government against others who disagree with you. You’ll find no such desire for (any) government with me. I don’t want you caged or killed because you disagree with me and have the audacity to exercise your natural rights as a sentient human being. And I don’t want any of us stolen from to pad the pockets of the people who purchase politicians, or who profit from our global imperialism.

      @AVENGERK

You avoided the point behind ad hominem and preaching your personal experience as the universal truth of the TEA Party. It isn’t.

Pointing out the gun in the room of government is a necessary portion of any political discussion, if people have any concern and respect for liberty. You may believe that a gov program is just/warranted/needed and gladly pay taxes to support them, but gov puts those who disagree with you and who do not wish to fund those programs (on moral grounds or whatever) in front of the barrel of that gun, and STEALS from them to fund that program. Your disagreement with this doesn’t make it untrue.

How big is the cry in the TEA Party against the Military Industrial Complex, or Big Pharma, Big Ag and other subsidized industries (funded by tax $ stolen from us)? Do you see taxation as thievery? Daniel Webster said, “The power to tax is the power to destroy.” Benjamin Franklin said, “No man’s life, liberty or fortune is safe while our legislature is in session.”

Government is the antithesis of liberty. Some quote Madison, “If men were angels no government would be necessary,” but I believe the opposite is true: it is precisely BECAUSE men are not angels that we should not maintain an entity with a monopoly on the use of force. That creates a magnet for people who desire to control others to gravitate toward, and use toward selfish or immoral ends. Too much historical evidence to argue that point, sir.

Odd how communists are being given a pass now. Communists have slaughtered far more people around the world than Nazis, but communists are treated like nice guys who just make mistakes. While Nazis are the worst thugs ever produced by mankind. We fought more wars to destroy communism than we fought to destroy the nazis. I hate both, but communists should be treated like nazis in the US. Unfortunately, it appears that our government has capitulated to the communists. Greece capitulated to them a long time ago, before they joined the EU. In fact the EU was a natural extension of the idea of a communist world government to the already communist Greeks. I wonder how they like that communist idea now. I wonder how we will like it in a few more years.

They don’t pay there bills, they expect the rest of the world to bail them out of their irresponsible society, but they would be the first ones crying victim if a nation had the balls to waltz in with troops and say, ‘we’ll manage things now. If you think you can walk the middle road, being neither hot nor cold – you live in a dream world. “WE” look at what the Progressive Left has done in our schools and we are horrified – but the other side of that coin is just what the Greek Youth are advocating – a return to Hellenism – and getting rid of the foreigners. AND that is just about where many on the right in this country are – get rid of the foreigners – those Mexicans, Latino’s, and Hispanics. THEY ARE the cause of much of the stress in this country – THEY are eating into American Citizens working. THEY ARE taking advantage, with a complicit government, of our social welfare state – even to the point of getting assistance that U. S. citizens cannot get.

I think you can soon look for a Golden Dawn in America – especially with the Socialist Democracy that we are becoming – under this administration – just like Greece.

No one is sympathizing with Nazis KATATONIC33. Look at Greece before the EU and after..it’s that simple.
Greece is not America. Greeks are Greeks..not “african Greeks, latino-greeks, asian-greeks, indian-greeks. They are a small homogenous nation with the orthodox church playing a major role in their culture. They take these things seriously. Think of it in these terms….there’s Cherokee indians and there are white settlers. All of a sudden…the life the cherokees knew is thrown into turmoil because a new and numerous people have flooded into their small borders changing everything they held dear. So they fought back..and lost. The Greeks are much like the cherokees in this instance. This is their native land..they didn’t come to Greece from England or Ireland looking for a better life..they’ve always been greeks it’s their ancestral home, language and culture..all of a sudden…huge swaths of albanians, afghans and other muslims throw themselves into tiny Greece which can barely sustain itself let alone the vast numbers of illegals making their way through. They’re hurting over there because they mismanaged their country and it’s being turned upside down by people that shouldn’t even be there in the first place. Wouldn’t you lash out in frustration? Nationalism all of a sudden looks appealing to someone facing these things.
If a refined culture like the Germans can react this way you think a more rustic culture like the Greeks wouldn’t?

“I think you mean the Greek schools have something in common with the leftist Democrat professors in the US. haha.”

In some ways, that’s true. In others, it certainly isn’t. The Greeks are displaying Nationalism, ala “Greece for Greeks,” like many in the TEA Party for America, and would still wholly support their socialist style of gov if it only benefitted fellow Greeks. The Lefty professors in the US want to tax us for everything to redistribute wealth across the world, but both groups favor heavy taxation and redistribution on some scale.

      @THEGREATCARNAC
“What a joke you are. THe TEA party is a patriotic group trying to fight communism/fascism led by tyrran obama.”

Many in the TEA party have been co-opted into the Neoconservative effort to make America a police state theocracy that maintains it’s Imperialist efforts around the world. The TEA Party wants to use the force of law to reshape America into ‘their ideal,’ but maintain support for the military industrial complex through ‘patriotic’ support for continuing the war in the middle east, the trade of freedom for security (TSA, PATRIOT Act, NDAA12 etc), and do not want freedoms they disagree with, like legal cannabis, gay marriages etc, to be legalized for people who disagree with them. The TEA Party simply advocates it’s own version of tyranny.

It is very likely your experience with TEA Partiers is different than mine. But you didn’t offer anything to counter the generalization I posted. You make it out as if the TEA party getting it’s way with an expanse of military spending, reforms to the social welfare programs they favor (like Social Security and Medicare, subsidies for oil companies and the military industrial complex, that the thievery a TEA Party government would commit against me through continued taxation (at any rate) to fund these things would not be tyranny… like their stance against my right to put what I want into my own body is not tyranny. The Albanian mafia has brought more illicit drugs and slave prostitution to every corner of Europe. That’s ok though. According to Glenn Beck, the Golden Dawns are the problem in Greece, not the criminals pouring in from the stolen lands of Kosovo and Macedonia.

You have to understand ethnic dynamics in Europe to understand this kneejerk reaction by the Greeks. And it’s difficult not to sound “jingoistic” when discussing this topic.

Greece is a tiny country that was already barely able to keep it’s head above water fiscally. Then they joined the EU and thought the Germans would pay the credit card bill.

Along with membership came the EU open border policy. Albanians had been trickling into Greece already but after joining the EU…the floodgates opened. Greece until then was a homogenous society..essentially all ethnic Greeks speaking Greek, one religion orthodoxy. All of a sudden their population is flooded with Albanians, Afghan refugees and muslims on their way into other parts of Europe. They over-burdened an already flaccid Greek economy. They brought violent crime and hard drugs with them.
You see, Greece isn’t the monolith the US is. America can handle swaths of illegals without upsetting it’s economy too greatly. Yes it takes a toll..but not on the scale Greece took. Additionally..the US is made up of different cultures all calling themselves “American” and all speaking English. It’s a big country with room for all. Greece is not. Greece is the seat of the Orthodox Church and very “Greek” but it’s small. The madness of the open border policy threw huge numbers of muslim illegals into Greece and Greece was totally unprepared and under-equipped for it. Now we see the result of Europe’s utop

Very nice assessment Avengerk. We need more like you. Now we just need to get these other peeps to realize how wrong they are about this article. If the majority of criminals in Greek prisons are Albanians, then it might look like the Greeks are targeting Albanians for “ethnic cleansing,” but I call on America to look at itself before it goes around judging. Blacks make up almost 40% of the prison population, yet they only make up about 12% of the total US population. If Greece or Serbia or Macedonia are employing Naziism to destroy their minorities, then I contend that the US is as well.

The fact is that a lot of Albanians are criminals involved with the Albanian mob. Most Albanian expatriots call for things like teaching kids in Albanian instead of Greek or forcing the parliament to conduct itself in more than just the Greek language. It wouldn’t be acceptable in your home, why should someone else accept it?

The MSM makes sure that all headlines and stories misrepresent conservative principles whenever possible. The Marxist, who are anti-freedom / anti-capitalist, control the MSM. The elites who write & report the “political narrative” often place the Nazi’s on the extreme right and the Communists on the extreme left. But, think of the political description as a circle and the two are side-by-side in reality. Both the Nazi and Communist Parties represent extreme Authoritarian Fascism and are deadly enemies of personal freedom, capitalism, freedom of religion and human dignity. Do not be fooled by the Marxist MSM. They never tell the truth.

I have seen comments on here that say virtually the same thing you have said, that communists and national socialists (NAZIs) are the same thing. Tell that to the people of northern Spain, where the communists and fascists have been fighting each other since World War II. They are not the same, though neither is a good form of government.

DARTHMIMS, no they are not the same, they fight everywhere they meet. But that is not to say they are not similar. And from a Constitutional Republic point of view, the outcomes are very similar from either movement.

Fundamentally, both believe in “Elites” controlling everything, Communism directly, Fascism indirectly. But this Greek movement seems like a pure racist movement, with little politics involved. Because Nazism was nationalistic it used racism as a tool to garner support. It seems like these Greek nitwits are just looking for a scapegoat for their governments and societies incompetencies

Where is it deemed oppressive or statist to refuse to put an OK stamp on the fantasies of a segment of the population that makes up less than 2% of the population.

Should we also allow those that have a sexual attraction to dogs to marry their pets?

      AVENGERK

I’m not insulting your intelligence. The oppresion/statism in disallowing two human beings rights enjoyed by others because they are homosexual is inherent. I don’t particularly care for homosexuality, but I don’t believe they should be denied the same rights to marriage because they are homosexual. If I had my way, the government would have nothing to do with marriage (as it shouldn’t).

Your question about attraction to dogs is ridiculous and you know it.

If gay marriages do not take anything from you (as they wouldn’t if government was out of the picture), then your remark about “caving to extortion” is moot. But, by your remark about “2% of the population, it is plain that you actually agree with the tyranny of the majority inherent in democracy, or even in a democratic republic such as the United States. This means that you believe it is fine for the majority to negate the rights of the minority. That’s a tenet of a statist philosophy.

Of course you’re insulting my intelligence CHRISDIAMOND…why should a society endorse aberrant sexual behaviour with an “OK” stamp simply because the small group that practices it demands their behaviour be deemed “normal” by society as a whole?

Tell me what’s “normal” CHRISDIAMOND about more than 55% of new cases of HIV each year in this country attributed to less than 2% of the population? Can you tell me where you find anything “normal” about that? Better yet..you’re bleating about spending..how much are we spending on all the homosexuals who keep getting HIV each year simply because their sexual mores and proclivities make them ill and kill them?

What “rights” are you talking about? Where does the constitution say marriage is a right? Stop selling their talking points. Homosexuals have EXACTLY the same rights you and I do.

My “question” you said is ridiculous is about is as ridiculous as homosexuals asking to be married…their whole argument is “we’re just like you, we want to love each other and marry each other the way you do”. Why shouldn’t someone who’s into beastiality offer the same reason to marry their dog? They love each other dont’ they? They’re intimate with each other aren’t they? Both homosexuals and those into beastiality copulate with no chance of siring offspring. Why are homosexuals any different? You’re bleating about statist control over society yet you’d stop a dog and his owner from marrying? Wh

Israel arrests and reports black and Asian illegals because they want to maintain their Jewish nation. I applaud them. Greeks, French, Germans, and all European peoples deserve a homeland too. We have almost lost America, and if you don’t think it is a deliberate dispossession Google: Reconquista. 20 million illegals is not immigration, it is an invasion. Send 20 million Americans to Mexico and the Mexican army and drug cartels will unite to kill all the Americans. We spend $338 Billion a year supporting this

In our case, it’s the people’s fault for voting in santa clause and his party, which will eventually bring an extremist group to the surface. We are in trouble with no chance of escaping turmoil.

“can you give me one example of tyranny under Obama?”

He is merely a continuation and escalation of the tyranny of our White House for eons now, going all the way back to John Adams and his passage of the Aliens and Seditions Act of 1798, and for imprisoning a Congressman for referring to him as “his rotundity.” Lincoln was arguably the most tyrannical president we ever had, followed closely by FDR, Wilson, LBJ, Obama and Bush. But to answer your question, the most important and glaring example of Obama’s tyranny comes in the form of killing American citizens without due process of law (Anwar al Awlaki, his 16-year old son and another American I can’t recall now), the establishment of a Presidential Kill list, the maintenance of the USA PATRIOT Act, the expansion of warrantless police search authorizations, the internet freedom crack-down, the continued and escalated war on drugs, the provision of drones in the US for police/security work, bombing other countries without a Congressional declaration of war, passing on indicting and punishing the Wall Street crooksters that brought about the collapse of 2008 (including former SECTREAS Hank Paulson, former Fed Chairman Alan Greenspan), not indicting Eric Holder for the gun running to Mexican drug cartels… are these enough examples?

They merely disagree on the path to attain such a State dominated utopia. The main core difference is that the Fascists allow private ownership but control every aspect of how that property or business is controlled. The Communists remove ownership and control every aspect of how that property or business is operated. Their ideals are ultimately a Marxist society of ultimate purity where all happily work, live, and die for the benefit of the State, or the “Collective”.
