Jeb Bush to Lead National Constitution Center

PHILADELPHIA (AP) — It might not be the White House, but former Florida Gov. Jeb Bush will follow in his father’s footsteps as head of the National Constitution Center in Philadelphia.

The younger Bush on Thursday was named the next chairman of the Philadelphia museum, a job former President George H.W. Bush held from 2007-2008. Another former president, Bill Clinton, has held the post the last four years.

Bush, 59, said he feels a cultural shift brewing in the United States. He’s been reading up on U.S. and world history to try to prepare for it.

“I think … there’s going to be a time of cultural change in our country,” Bush said, “and typically these have been done in ways that people didn’t anticipate.

“I want to learn about the past so I can think about the future,” he said.

But asked if a run for president is in his future in 2016, Bush demurred and politely changed the topic.

Bush himself is bilingual, and led a diverse, immigrant-rich population as governor of Florida from 1999-2007.

He said he hopes to fill “a critical void in our country” as he carries out the center’s mission of improving civic education and engagement.

And he joked that he was honored to follow Clinton as chairman because the Democrat and sometime Bush family rival has become like “a brother from another mother.”

“He has developed a relationship with my dad that is very moving,” Jeb Bush said. “These guys have become really close.”

In 2006, both Clinton and the elder Bush received the Constitution Center’s Liberty Medal, an annual award given to those whose actions represent the founding principles of the United States. They were honored for their efforts helping victims of Hurricane Katrina and the tsunami in southeast Asia.

Prior to becoming governor, Jeb Bush worked in banking in Texas and Venezuela. He is also the state’s former commerce secretary.

Former Pennsylvania Gov. Ed Rendell, the board’s vice chairman, said he knows Bush to be a consensus builder who will bring a fresh vision to the Constitution Center’s mission. They worked together when their gubernatorial terms overlapped, Rendell said.

The center explores constitutional ideals through its museum exhibits, which include rare artifacts, a theater, and Signers’ Hall, which holds 42 life-size, bronze statues of the Founding Fathers. The Constitution Center also hosts public lectures and debates, and houses the Annenberg Center for Education and Outreach.

Bush said the country’s problems may seem daunting, but pale in comparison to those faced by the nation’s founders, disparate people who came together and forged a constitution.

“If they were to have done that, we can solve the fiscal cliff problem and we can solve other problems,” Bush said.

The Republicans know that the conservative/Liberty movement is gaining. This is a move to get us to beleive the Bush constitution spin.He sat at the CFR and wrote Immigration reform which Rubio is using. He is another globalist. His education plan is global and we are now feeling the effects of his Florida education reform. No thanks. We need to build our own coalition with the real conservatives and the liberty party. That is our 3rd party!! No more of these phony conservatives.

The Bushes have destroyed the Republican Party with their Big government, big spending agenda. They are responsible for shifting wealth from the US to other countries. I would never vote for Bush and Rubio looks less appealing as he aligns himself with Bush. If Bush runs then the time would be ripe for a 3rd party. The Dems and the republicans would split the progressive votes.

      @SLR

Well, no, they just continued what Nixon started. Nixon put more big government in place than most presidents after him could ever have hoped for. This is not defending the Bushes, the entire Bush family is comprised of snarky East Coast liberals who pretend to wear cowboy hats to get votes. But if you want a truly destructive GOP president, you have to go to the source with Nixon.

Of course they are. And they will continue to do so. GOP rank and file are being played like a well tuned fiddle, and continue to allow themselves to be led by the nose. Most rank and file are MUCH more philosophically aligned with Libertarians than the GOP, but refuse to ‘waste their vote’ and continue their march of supporting Progressive Republicans so that they can feel proud of losing, over and over again. And when they do “win” they get…Bush and other Progressives. Oh boy.

You claim all the time that you are Christian(like myself) but you display the opposite.

We know each other by our fruit, right? I mean, come on look at your last comment.

“why would my hatred for Ron Paul be considered irrational?”

You not even at the least bit concerned about your hatred for him but concerned by how rational hatred should be. Is you’re Lord the God of hate? Thought we hate the sin not the sinner.

You are consistently malicefully(I made that word) verbally attacking fellow comments. You’re hatred for anybody and everybody who disagree with you is very telling. You may want to look in the mirror time to time as a Christian.

How are you leaving a good witness? How about promoting what you believe and why rather than attack people and attack them personally?

Just happened to remember an anti big government comment from reading it 19 years ago (or his researched talking points) and thought he’d enlighten everyone. Same with other posts in regard to PC questionable statements from the past. It’s an Alinsky leftist tactic. Isolate, hyperbolate (made that up), & ridicule. No examination of factual basis for any supposed off the wall comments…just ridicule using today’s socialist PC as a basis. Where are his on topic comments on the Bushes’…pre-emptive war to inculcate “democracy” in Iraq. How’s that working out? Abandoning the free market to save the free market. How’s that working out? Obfuscating border security and encouraging the welfare state as compassionate. How’s that working out? Initiating 4th Amendment violations for “security”. And here’s Jeb, appearing in a “constitutional” position previously held by…Bill Clinton! And of course Bush Sr and Bill are just the bestest of friends. How about defending the constitution from its enemies? Ron Paul is not an enemy of the constitution. So they come up with this garbage.

Guess what Jeb will learn about the past in his constitutional studies, with the help of his predecessor Bill Clinton….We need to abandon the constitution to save the constitutional principles, not just for ourselves but for the whole world.

P.S. I’d like to see Time_2 defend his and the Bushes’ best of buds John Boehner in his purge of conservatives and opposition to grass roots political activity. You know, make a case for his side instead of playing leftist propagandist and smear tactician. (He’s not “playing” the part.)

See what happens when I go to bed? I miss some good stuff. No, not you ENRICO your started to get all circle-jerk on me. I’m NOT a mind reader REAL… if you wanted to state something, know something else or wanted me to read you in a specific way, then you should have manned up and spit it out. Btw, it’s obvious your grasping for straws regarding the Christian thing. Do I go around here proselytzing my Christian faith? Hardly grasshopper…

KID. Yeah, pretty insensitive of old Georgie Porgie. I got the humor though and didn’t get insulted by it. You anti-war, anti-Military and anti-authority Paulies are way to sensitive for my tastes. Get some cajones will ya’? Knowing that “WE” did find WMD in Iraq (I know you guys only wanted nukes, but WMD is WMD yeah?), and knowing WMD was moved to Syria (and I think we’re seeing some of it in the news now eh?)… I’m pretty satisfied we weren’t too far off in our analysis. Have some inside poop too that Paulies aren’t allowed to know. Come back in 10 years and I’ll tell you… K? Never let it be said that Ron Paul acolytes ever understood / accepted the truth OR liked a Bush or a Bush or a Reagan or a Lincloln or Blacks, Gays and Jews.

Sequing back to Ron Paul and his Newsletters. Tell me all you know? I know that will only take about 30 seconds (all you know), but give it a shot KID. Tell me all about how insensitive Paul has been over the years regarding the content of his Newsletters and his BS explanations.

      STOPIT. STOPIT I said… JUST STOPIT !!

Anyways. Not impressed with what Bhoner did, but understand the reason behind. Piss some old Republicans off and they’re not just gonna’ stand idley by… especially with anyone who has connected themselves to Ron Paul in word or deed these days. That’s the way the game’s played. And don’t tell me you guys don’t understand games…

You’re going to recieve payback, blowback, and a biatch slap just like you did at the Convention in Tampa. Is it / was it right? Maybe, maybe not… but that’s happens to young hardheads who can’t compromise sometimes with the older (not always wiser) folks who have been around the block a few times. They’re going to defend what’s their’s or what they perceive to be their’s. It’s all fair in politics and war. I wish they’d ALL concentrate more on what WE (those who voted for them) want. But I do understand the game.

Oh, remember what happened to the kid on the bus antagonizing the old Vet? Got his @ss whooped didn’t he?

Again was it right? Depends on how you look at it…

If the next prez candidate does not embrace the Constitutional limitations… do not vote for them. The Constitution is the ONLY thing that stands in the way of freedom and total dictatorship. (My point was that at least Ron Paul believed in the Constitution)

@times2 I don’t know (nor do I believe that you know) what you are talking about in your fist few paragraphs regarding me.

“if you wanted to state something, know something else or wanted me to read you a specific way, then you should have manned up and spit it out.”

Again, I don’t know what you’re talking about. I was pretty straight forward and detail too.

      “I’m NOT a mind reader REAL…”

Really, at what point did I even insinuate you should some sort of mind reader. Grasping for straw?

“Btw, it’s obvious your grasping for straws regarding the Christian thing.”

Nope. Obviously you don’t read your own Bible. You claim to be Christian but defend being hateful. Our Lord is suppose to the embodiment of love and goodness. You should open up your Bible and look into the mirror. I don’t know who you worship but it not the God of the Bible.

“Btw, it’s obvious your grasping for straws regarding the Christian thing. Do I go around here proselytzing my Christian faith? Hardly grasshopper”

Really? I just saw the other day you were using scripture to make one of your point and was arguing that you were using and standing up for your Christian faith. I believe it was on a article based around drugs.

But okay then. I see you’re distancing for self from your supposed faith now. Like I said we know each other by our fruit.

Yep. The media does have wrong. We did indeed find wmd’s in Iraq. I believe we made the right decision going to Iraq buddy.

I say we should have actually declared war constitutionally first(we even had the support for it) and then never attempted to nation build or we should had controlled of their elections and have more control of their governance.

But thank for your condescension and accusations.

Please don’t post any positive articles on any of the Bush’s. Please remember to uses words like rino and progressive when writing about Jeb the rest of the Bush’s. None of these Bush’s were or are constitutionalist of any caliber. Progressive the all of them through and through.

I would like to see him run as a democrat in 2016 maybe.

Fox has been talking a lot about Jeb Bush lately too. He was supposedly on the Republican list for potential Presidential candidates. Who are these Republicans that the Party is talking to? EVERY Republican that I know is all Bushed-out. It will be a BIG mistake if he ends up being our candidate.
