Atheists and the faithful are known for their holiday billboards. But an entirely different and potentially-offensive Christmas billboard has emerged in San Diego, California — one featuring an ABC television star. It reads, “All I want for Christmas is a Latina girlfriend.”
The bizarre message has some residents a bit frustrated, while others find it comical. The individual depicted in it is Marc Paskin, the star of the network’s “Secret Millionaire.” As 10News.com notes, Paskin has become known for giving to those in need. Now, after using his fortune to help others, he appears to be looking to receive a gift for himself.
Under the message, an e-mail address is posted for any individual who wishes to make Paskin’s Christmas hope a reality. It reads: christmaslatina@aol.com.
It’s unclear why the message was posted. So far, the reality star hasn’t commented about his reasoning for using the billboard to find a woman. And — it’s unclear whether the spectacle is part of a new television endeavor (or rooted in an actual desire for romance).
Not everyone likes the sign. Consider Juan Figueroa, a local who works at an establishment near where the billboard is posted. While he believes that Paskin has been a generous individual, he finds the message offensive.
“Why Latinas?,” asked Figueroa. ”Generous of him, but still, that’s not right.”

Latina women can be amazing, but it seems strange to me to be so exclusive as an initial search criteria… can you imagine if that billboard read ‘white woman’? the cries of racism would be echoing from both Left coasts.
I feel sorry for this guy if he A) truly needs to advertise for a girlfriend, B) expects that any girlfriend garnered by this billboard is a girlfriend he should be interested in as a long term relationship, and C) for the grief he will face from everyone else for even trying this, whether seriously or as a stunt.

Dec. 7, 2012 at 11:12amI’ve often wondered how Hispanics are the only “Latino/Latina”s. The Italians, French, Romanians and Portuguese are Latino/Latinas as well. Latin refers to a language and culture, not an ethnicity as it’s come to be used these days. How terms come into use is fascinating to me.
Hispanic on the other hand is correct…for some. Hispanic being a designation for those from Hispania aka Spain. For most central/south Americans however, they have about as much Spanish in them as Eskimos have Polynesian in them, so it’s not really accurate for 99% of them either.
It’s hard to figure out what to call them, if one applies language and logic. I guess one shouldn’t in this case.

I for one not from the Caucasus and I doubt I’m descended from the tribe that became, essentially, the Chechens. Or when folks call all white people “anglo-saxon” in some form or another (such as “WASP”). I doubt a pearly white, blond haired blue eyed Russian would take that as a compliment. But yeah, identity no doubt, you’re right. Language generally fascinates me.

Told his Dad in front of all of us to include an almost exclusive Hispanic subcontractor crew, that he had a Latino girlfriend. You could have heard a pin drop into into a pile of cotton. It was the Hispanics who were really upset. Finally we all got a roaring laugh out of it.
