A Noosed Deer Was Thrown from a Highway Overpass and Slammed Through This Truck’s Windshield

Locals in Varina, Virginia, are confused as to what would possess someone to tie a rope around a dead deer’s neck and sling it over a highway overpass into oncoming traffic.

According to WTVR, the deer crashed through a truck’s windshield Friday after midnight, peppering the driver’s body and eyes with glass. The driver wasn’t injured beyond minor scrapes, although it could have been much worse. The CBS 6 channel reported that the neck of the deer, which was tied with a rope, was severed in the crash and hit driver Billy Ducksworth in the face.

“All I know is that when I came up on the bridge it wasn’t hanging there,” Ducksworth told CBS 6 News reporter Jake Burns. “And then I looked up and a deer come over the bridge on a rope swinging at me.”

Ducksworth continued saying the incident was one he would never dream of.

“What if that had been a bus with people up on it?” he said, according to WTVR.

A woman later in the morning on her way to work spotted the driver’s truck at a gas station where he had stayed the night and she was able to speak with him, WTVR reported.

“It was just unbelievable to see something so traumatic like that, or the things that could have happened to this guy,” the woman identified as Melissa M. said to the station’s reporter.

Virginia State Police Sgt. Thomas Molnar told WTVR in an email that this offense is considered a felony and that the station is investigating. The crime occurred on I-295 north near Route 5 at exit 22A.

The Miami-based trucker, not to be deterred from his final destination, continued on later Friday toward New Jersey, according to the news station.

when they catch whoever did this,they should tie them up with the same rope,drag them to the same bridge and hang the over the side of the bridge so ever one can see the idiots who think throwing deer over a bridge into innocent drivers windshields scaring the hell out of them and could have easily killed some one is funny, better yet they should just gut them,hang them over a ant bed and let the ants and buzzards take care of them,i hope they catch them and i really hope the driver of the truck would be able to beat the heck out of them.

You see people do so much stupid stuff nowadays that they think is funny. Like that show “It Only Hurts When I Laugh”, I can’t say that I have ever gotten one laugh from an episode of that show. All I see is people being hurt and sometimes quite badly and yet people find that sort of thing a source of amusement???

  They already were drunk when they pulled this. Its possible they don’t even realize what happened. They may have thrown the dear over and bolted in their pickup truck. The news media should have stayed silent for a week so they would brag about it and get caught.
  Years back I remember hunters in Michigan wanting me to go with them. I found out they got liquored up *before they went out in the woods with their high power rifles! I told them no thanks and I felt like sleeping on the floor of the hotel room that night!

I would charge the perps with attempted murder. That rope is pretty thick and looks new, probably a clue. Hopefully security cameras or some clerk will identify someone buying a thick rope. What jobs use a rope like that? Is that knot a knot that certain folks use? Was the deer shot? Recover the bullet, offer a reward, maybe passerbys saw something. I don’t think whoever did this should get off lightly. If it was a hunter, take away their rights to buy a hunting license for the rest of their life.

The same menatlity and stupidity of dumb@sses who throw bricks/rocks at cars/truck/motorcycles from bridges. As a kid, I used to throw snowballs at cars from the side of the road until a driver took the time to run after my stupid @ss, show me the dent I put in his car and dragged my rump home to the old man. There was PAIN coming for my stupid act.

Needless to say, my Father paid the damages and “I paid for it in many ways”… to include financially when I started working years later. The old man had a memory like a steel trap.

I learned. You bet I learned….

  TIME, Had a similar experience back when I was a little kid. Except I used a spring loaded toy bazooka. Super soft rubber projectiles, left no kind of dent, but my Dad had a similar reaction. The toy stayed in the trunk of my Dad’s ’55 Chevy for what seemed like a lifetime to me, and I had to keep the three blue rubber projectiles prominently displayed in my room’s bookshelf.

they didn’t measure the length of the rope correctly
I would bet they were trying to see the deer explode when hit by the truck so they wanted to swing it down infront of the grill but didnt have a long enough rope
