Christians Stage Live Nativity in Protest Against Santa Monica’s Atheist-Led Nativity Ban (See it Here)

Christians in Santa Monica, California, have refused to back down to atheists who have successfully pushed for a local ban on unattended nativity displays in local parks. TheBlaze already told you about the loophole that believers found in the new regulations imposed by city government — one that allows for live reenactments of the Christmas story to still take place in Palisades Park. So, over the weekend, to the chagrin of secularists, believers put on quite the show.

On Saturday, the live nativity unfolded in an effort to rail against atheists’ efforts and city-wide regulations that are seen by some as squelching free speech. In contrast to past years, which included large-scale depictions of the Bible’s story of Jesus’ birth, actors came together in costume, complete with a wooden manger. Additionally, the Christians putting the show on sang traditional Christmas carols in honor of the holiday tradition.

As for the motivation for continuing the nativity, one could easily argue that such a sentiment is tradition. This year marks the 60th annual presence of Christmas imagery in the public park. And, according to the Rev. Patrick Mahoney, director of the Christian Defense Coalition in Washington, D.C., the loophole of creating a live display made perfect sense.

“We noticed that all the bans were for unattended displays, so we thought, what about a live nativity? What about having people there?” he explained in an interview with KNBC-TV.

Interestingly, the live display was not put on by the Santa Monica Nativity Scenes committee, the owners of the traditional display involved in the recent legal dispute. However, the group did advertise the event on its web site.

Watch an NBC report about the live nativity, below:

As for the massive displays that graced the Palisades Park for decades, a private business has opened up its land to display these Biblical scenes. Watt Companies, a real estate business in Santa Monica, California, will host the Christian themes from Dec. 9 through Jan. 5.

“We are deeply grateful to the Watt Companies for donating display space that will allow all of Santa Monica’s distinctive Christmas Story to continue spreading the message of joy, hope, and peace found in the Christ child’s birth to residents and visitors,” said Hunter Jameson, chairman of the Nativity Scenes Committee, in a statement on the group’s web site.

Watch, below, for more:

As TheBlaze has reported, for the past year, atheists and Christians have been battling over the presence of nativity displays in public parks in Santa Monica. In an effort to temper the bickering, the city inevitably implemented a ban on all religious speech in local parks, thus ending a nearly-60-year tradition of having a display in Palisades Park. But the battle clearly hasn’t ended.

These newfound actions have helped to keep the nativity display — at least in some form — in place.

The best part about this is how angry it makes atheists. Soon, they’ll be so angry they’ll try something stupid like dress up as a Zombie Muhammad and get the crap kicked out of them. Then these same Useful Idiots will discover where their Cultural Marxism has abandoned their freedoms as “privileges.”

For the militant atheist, it seems like their whole lives are about poking religious people in the eye with a stick.
Ironic though, that as atheists, they see God everywhere.

      God wins.

Federal law (5 U.S.C. 6103) establishes the following public holidays for Federal employees. Please note that most Federal employees work on a Monday through Friday schedule. For these employees, when a holiday falls on a nonworkday — Saturday or Sunday — the holiday usually is observed on Monday (if the holiday falls on Sunday) or Friday (if the holiday falls on Saturday).

The atheists have no law to stand on.. but Christians are too afraid to stand up to them in most cases. they worry about law suits .. they have NO reason to worry tho.. it’s pretty simple really & Has been overlooked for years.
    CHRISTMAS IS a “”"GOVERNMENT HOLIDAY”"”..
if atheists want to say it can’t be placed on ‘public’ aka Gov. property..,then change the sanctioned GOV HOLIDAY.. so far they just try and scare Christians .. really scary ..NOT !
MAKE ALL GOV OFFICES be OPEN ! make ALL GOV employees go to work !! Let congress work.. let the Prez gvie up his 4 million dollar vacation to Hawaii..
you can’t have it both ways people.. it is either sanctioned. or it’s not .. period !!

That would be great. Atheist enclaves for themselves sequestered from decent humanity because of their inability to COEXIST as the bumper sticker emblazones.

Then we Christians could be happy without the niggling disagreeable atheist continually raising legal challenges of such great import…like prayers before football games, or valedictorian speeches. Atheists see themselves as vanquishers of Christian symbology but would not dare take on the Muslim horde as they might find themselves under threat of death like Salmon Rushdie.

I find God had a special term of endearment for those that say there is no God….FOOLS. I say we start a 1984-ish campaign to alway replace the word atheist with Gods synonym, FOOL. Perfect! Makes my day.

Yes, and that would make you what we call a fascist. Someone who is so afraid of an idea, so enchanted with what they already believe rather than what’s true, that instead of engaging with it and analyzing it with reason, the only thing that makes humans distinguishable in any morally significant way from any other organism, you instead think it is moral and intelligent to attempt to intimidate those who hold the idea. Good one Mussolini. But we live in the 21st century–the law has muzzled your religion in the parts of the world that AREN’T **** (i.e. here for now), because for a long time, it WASN’T muzzled, and it did nothing but perpetuate barbarism and gratuitous suffering for roughly 1,000 years. But, like then, eventually the that which is true and useful become imminent in the struggle for survival, and destructive behaviors like your religious delusions weed themselves out. And likewise, reduced to making pathetic and empty attempts at social coercion, today your superstitious delusions are sighing their death rattle–the feeble death throes of what was once a seemingly monolithic, totalitarian experiment, will soon be naught but a bad memory.

It is the left which is constantly attempting to dismantle the moral values of the American culture – founded in the Judeo-Christian ethic – to replace them with amorality or even blatant paganism. The left hates any moral values but its own and is intent upon shoving them down the throats of everyone, all the while hypocritically pontificating about their designated enemies supposedly doing what the left is truly doing.

It proved one thing. That the Establishment clause has been misinterpreted by atheists for years into something it does not say. Try reading some history and the Constitution. Then you might actually gain some understanding. The establishment clause is there to preserve religious freedoms, not censor them like the anti-social atheists were trying to do.
All that matters, is that the nativity was there as it has been for six decades now.

Atheists make me laugh when they say they oppose religion.

Atheism is a religion just like any other.

Religion believes, without proof, that there is a God.

Atheism believes, without proof, that there is no God.

Both are expressions of faith and belief in the unprovable.

Atheists simply seek to place their religion above others and persecute non-believers.

At least the radical Islamists are honest about their beliefs and intentions.

Atheists try to cloak their religion in Secularism.

Bit Atheists are just as intolerant of other’s beliefs as the radical Islamists, and for the same reasons.

When FFRF or any other group threatens with a lawsuit, they are violating my right as a taxpayer. A park is public property regardless of my religion. I have a right to be there as well as the atheist. This judge hurt everyone with his ruling. This does not solve the problem, because in the end the atheist won. He punished the Christians and rewarded the God haters.

For a group who does not believe in God, they sure get their panties in a wad trying to eliminate a non-existent entity. Satan’s children will stop at nothing to remove God from earth.

Atheism is based on faith, not empiricism.

It is an article of faith to believe in the existence of God. It is also an article of faith to believe in the non-existence of God. In fact believing in a negative requires a great deal more faith.

Therefore atheistic claims that Atheism is not a faith based religion is faulty. Atheistic claims that the Atheism religion is based on empiricsim and REASON are also…just as faulty. It is faith, and nothing else.

Therefore Atheism and Reason are antithetical, just as most Atheists are. Most of your ilk uses pseudo-science and illogical reasoning as a club to beat on Christians who just don’t know any better. But in the final analysis it’s just another form of Gnosticism. Or elitism if you wish.
It doesn’t impress me, and for most people on this board can see right through the snake oil.

Atheism is a faith based religion. This belief system has nothing to do with science or reason.

And there is nothing wrong with that. But many Atheists are selling snake oil when they try to make grand proclamations about Science backing them, or that their faith based religion is based on reason.

As long as they are honest with themselves and others about their religion, then for the most part Atheism has credibility.

Attempting to classify Atheism as a religion is always a strange process that the religious use to some how attempt to bring non-believers down to their level. If we accept Ranger’s process for determining if a philosophy is a religion then that makes Ranger1965 a part of our “religion” because he doesn’t believe in deities like Zeus, Thor, Ra or Mohammed. Must be a “belief” because he has no proof there is no sun god Ra, thus Ranger1965 is an Atheist.

It is not that I have faith there is no Jesus just as it is not a matter of faith that I know there is no Thor. I simply recognize myths and legends for what they are and can differentiate between reality supernatural and superstition.

Atheists should be glad there is freedom of religion, and should support it, because without that freedom there would be no freedom at all. Take away freedom of religion, and you have to wonder what other freedom is next in line to be taken? People of faith should be glad there is also freedom from religion, because without that freedom you have to wonder who gets to decide which religion is accepted.

Well, the difference is that you as an atheist don’t believe that the only way into Heaven is through Jesus Christ, not his picture. I as a Christian have something to try to live by, you on the other hand are wandering around lost. I’ll take Christianity any day of the week. Good luck with that in the afterlife. Semper Fi…..

      Atheism
The belief that there was nothing and nothing happened to nothing and then nothing magically exploded for no reason, creating everything and then a bunch of everything magically rearranged itself for no reason whatsoever into self-replicating bits.
      Makes perfect sense.

Not everyone shares the godless religion of atheism, either.
Other religions should respect atheists’ desire to be godless and respect atheists’ push to be godless in public. Let them have all the godlessness they desire.
AND atheists should respect those who wish to have their religion publicly displayed.
The answer to all sides is, just don’t look at what the other has displayed.
Tolerance can be beautiful when practiced by all.

Well KRETIN33…part of Christianity is evangelizing. Last I looked…that’s not against the law. Perhaps a statist cur like you would like to change that though?
But don’t waste your time here…shouldn’t you be putting your money where you mouth is and getting congress to stop recognizing a CHRISTIAN holiday as a national holiday? Good luck with that….

MARINE25 is a typical, know-nothing Useful Idiot for Cultural Marxism. “Reason” and “evidence” are used as a magic words by the Cult of Useful Idiots. MARINE25 cannot give evidence but he can engage in agitprop. He can attack, lie, hate, and blame. His brain is a wad of bumper-sticker slogans.

      REASON!!111one

MARINE25 will just beat that drum endlessly. Don’t worry. Ron Paul will be dead and gone forever. All of that time he spent at church was waste right? Ron Paul is a moron for attending service regularly right? He’s just a withered, soulless old loser who wasted his time.
