Claim: Secret Camo Can Make American Soldiers Truly Invisible & the Photos Will Blow Your Mind!

The Pentagon is betting big on a real life invisibility cloak for American soldiers, according to recent reports.

Hyperstealth Biotechnology Corp, a Canadian company known for its innovative camo technology, is attempting to revolutionize the battlefield by providing true invisibility for soldiers. The special material being used is know as Quantum Stealth. The pictures posted on the company’s website of the fabric, which apparently bends light to create the effect, look as though they are straight out of a Harry Potter movie:

There is no video yet of the technology in action since its development is considered highly secretive. However, Guy Cramer, CEO of Hyperstealth Biotechnology Corp, told the Daily Mail that top military brass in the U.S. and Canada have seen it in action, and were amazed:

“These groups now know that it works and does so without cameras, batteries, lights or mirrors…It is lightweight and quite inexpensive. Both the U.S. and Canadian military have confirmed that it also works against military IR scopes and Thermal Optics.”

In the same interview, Cramer imagines a group of battle tanks decked out with Quantum Stealth camouflage that could engage an enemy unit with no signs of their location except the sound of their engines and guns.

“As news spreads of an invisible Canadian army which can move without detection, the psychological effect on the enemy is devastating, they never know when or even if this invisible army has them targeted or surrounded. How can you hit a target you cannot see, how do you defend from the invisible?”

In a recent CNN interview, Cramer said you would literally have to “walk right into” a solder wearing the cloak in the same room as you to know he was there.  ”You wouldn’t see him at all” Cramer claims.

The army spent $5 billion in an underwhelming and under-performing camouflage pattern eight years ago and is now shopping for new contracts.

Looks like Photoshop. Gee, maybe I should convince Obama to give me a $500 Million grant like he did Solyndra. Then I could take photos of people and make them invisible with Photoshop. That version of stealth camouflage would be about a real as Obama’s transparency and leadership.

This camo operates by creating an image on the “cloak” of what’s behind the thing being camo’d. This means the image on the cloak must be redrawn, or re-scanned at a set frequency rate.

I can tell you why there is no video of the camouflage in action. A scanning-type video imager like a video camera totally defeats it.

All one need do is use a video camera or electronic-imaging binoculars with the capability to adjust the image scan rate. Just like when one sees an active/working computer monitor on a TV show, with the big, black, horizontal scan-bars marching across it because of the differences in scan rates between the monitor and the video camera, so too in the same way, this camo would stick out like a sore thumb and actually make a nice, obvious, and highly-visible target.

It’s also limited in the range of light it can work with. It won’t work for infrared nor ultraviolet, for instance. It might be a fun novelty item to amuse friends and family at parties and picnics, but it’s not something you’d want to bet your life on, or the lives of your soldiers. That is, if you give a rip about your life or the lives of your soldiers.

      What a boondoggle!

      @ MIL-MOM

Don’t get too worried regarding that camo. Read my post. right above yours. I’ve got 40 years of electronics engineering/design/service/repair experience and have worked with things like weapons guidance systems, advanced avionics-related optics/imaging, radar, industrial electrical and automation/robotics systems, computers/programming, and more that tells me that, along with the “Tell” of no actual video, that this is still a decade or so away from even approaching anything usable in the field under real-world conditions and against real enemies.

Now, as far as all the domestic government agencies, bureaus, offices, and departments engaging in unprecedented levels and magnitudes of ammo-stockpiling, that *IS* a concern, as it certainly looks like they are expecting something soon that they have NOT told US about, and don’t WANT us to find out. Until they’re ready.

I can see millions of our tax dollars being spent on this adventure. “The pictures posted on the company’s website of the fabric, which apparently bends light to create the effect, look as though they are straight out of a Harry Potter movie:” – this statement alone says it all.

“There is no video yet of the technology in action since its development is considered highly secretive” even better statement.

      Another great statement:
“These groups now know that it works and does so without cameras, batteries, lights or mirrors…It is lightweight and quite inexpensive. Both the U.S. and Canadian military have confirmed that it also works against military IR scopes and Thermal Optics.”

So…. If it indeed does not project, your comment is moot. The current technology prior to this is exactly as you stated. If they’ve used IR scopes, and Thermal Optics though to ‘observe’ its function…

Hey Blaze – Harry Potter? He and all his mindless minions are going into the Blaze of the “Lake of Fire”, unless they wake up! How about instead – Star Trek? umm…you need to read…

“These groups now know that it works and does so without cameras, batteries, lights or mirrors…Both the U.S. and Canadian military have confirmed that it also works against military IR scopes and Thermal Optics.”

No batteries or cameras or lights means that the camo is not scanning anything…there is no powered source. The fabric “bends” light probably through a manipulation of Snell’s Law and the principle of Total Internal Reflection, like fiber-optics.

Trust me, if some random guy, engineering background or not, on a news website could figure out how to beat their “new” camo they spent years and billions on in R&D, then this has to be the most ignorant and pathetic scientific research company in existence. This is apparently a very acknowledged and accomplished Canadian military research company. I am sure 99% of all “simple” solutions to defeating their new fabric have already been thought of either by their researchers or the Canadian and USA military that are looking at using their new fabric. Our military has some of the best scientific minds on the planet.

We have a Navy that has a working “rail gun” that goes Mach 7 max and can hit a target at 200 miles while going Mach 5, within 5 meters and ship mounted laser device that last I read the research could cut through 2 ft/s of steel, they are working on 20 ft/s by years end. I trust them over you.

No offense taken. Yes, I read those claims about no cameras, batteries, etc, and I call “BS” on them. They cannot be accurate as stated in the article.

It would require a material that is capable of violating the rules of physics, in at least a couple of different ways, to fulfill those claims.

Even if true, something as simple as a paint-bomb or paintball gun would instantly turn them into a paint-spattered target.

BTW, I’m well aware of the Navy railgun program. Come over some time and we can have a coffee or a beer and I’ll show you the one I built. It’s a soda-can’s worst enemy, LOL!

As far as this cloak, it’s simply that I’ve done a lot of work with advanced optics/displays, etc working with heads-up displays or HUDS, plus work related to aircraft and missile guidance, acquisition & targeting, etc. and have been keeping up with the latest in the field regarding flexible displays and optics, and this cloak would represent a two or three-generational tech-level leap or more at a minimum in several areas of science and technology, including optics, materials, and more, from where things stand currently in those areas.

The advances in multiple areas of science and technology required for this to live up to the claims would be Earth-shaking and world-changing. Think invention of the transistor, discovery of radio. This would be like two or three or more simultaneous inventions/discoveries of that magnitude, all in completely different scientific/technical/engineering fields, all by one not-huge company/corporation.

      I won’t say it’s absolutely not possible.

However, it seems so wildly implausible from a technical standpoint that it approaches the absurd. Heck, I wouldn’t be surprised if this were disinformation to cause hostile powers to waste resources chasing a pipe-dream, or possibly being used as bait to attract spies/operatives seeking to steal this supp

For the photo on the grass if it’s supposed to be showing what’s behind, what is behind is in shadow under the fabric. If it’s refecting what’s around it then why in the one photo do we see the wall behind. It’s more likely a fabric printed with what they photographed the model in front of. I’ll believe it when I see it demo’d on camera in front of someone I trust.

You need to read up on the National Civilian Defense Corps as outlined in the GIVE Act. Honor isn’t even in the description of the people they are intending to recruit. Psychological profile would include: Gang mentality, low self esteem, little to no moral compass, little or no parental involvement, susceptible to peer pressure. They specifically said that they are intending to recruit juvenile delinquents, street gang members, young adults who have aged out of foster care, and from single parent inner city homes. Many of these are people who could not get into the military because of criminal records. They intend to arm and provide tactical training to people who aren’t legally allowed to OWN a gun because of their criminal records and then they intend to hand them badges and let them lose on the streets of this country. That’s the recipe for a Gestapo/ SS type unit, not a police force.

If it’s true I remind you all of these words:

“We cannot continue to rely only on our military in order to achieve the national security objectives that we’ve set. We’ve got to have a civilian national security force that’s just as powerful, just as strong, just as well-funded.”
      Barack Obama

I spent 25 years in the US Army Infantry, 13 in the Airborne. Salt of the earth. But this will not be only in the hands of the Men of Honor I served with

Ok I am going to play Ms Cleo here.

If this works I see really bad things ahead in our enemies futures.
Yes I see head shots almost every time.

Yeah, probably part of the psy-ops done on the American people so they would fear the United States Federal Government even more than they do now. But, I must admit, the technology is pretty simple. Basically, nylon vests with thousands of fiber optic fibers running from front to back, and from one side to the other side. When you look at someone wearing the camo, you see what is in back of them.

CNN probably has an interest at stake and will help this guy win the contract. They saw that 5 billion the Army spent on cammie patterns and want some of that game.

Not sure about the Army, but USMC snipers already can lay in a hide undetected (by means of camo) for hours or days until they get the shot needed to take out the target.

Gunny Hathcock had cojones of steel. His mission to crawl over a thousand meters across open terrain (a grassy field) to get within range of an enemy encampment to take out a high level NVA officer took more guts/balls than most. Then make the shot and escape without being detected. Unbelieveable but true.

I’m sure he would have liked to have this “Hollywood Pedator” Camo but he did it old school.

Part 1 of 3 of the only interview on record. They also improvised the MA-Duece .50 cal, fitted with a scope for 2000 yd shots.

If you go to their website, they clearly say that these are mock-up photos done to get across the concept of how it works for the media. They aren’t showing any actual technology in these photos and they ARE photoshops. They come right out and say that.

So all you folks going: “OMG PHOTOSHOP” are missing the point.

A photo in 2 dimensions is far different than seeing it for real in 3d. I wonder how real it is in 3d?

A few years ago the British mentioned of a camouflage pattern that worked for their armored vehicles in the same way, I never heard of anything else about it so I wonder if the same principle is involved.
