MSNBC’s Joe Scarborough Attacks Glenn Beck, Talk Radio for Mitt Romney’s Loss: ‘You Punch Them in the Face’

(Photo: MSNBC)
MSNBC host Joe Scarborough had some strongly-worded advice for the Republican Party on “Morning Joe” Monday.
In his opinion, Republican nominee Mitt Romney lost the 2012 presidential election because he failed to “stand up” to the “bullies” on talk radio like Glenn Beck. If future Republicans do the same, their path to victory becomes much harder, he says.
Scarborough began by saying that in previous decades– particularly during the Reagan years– the Republican Party had most of the intellectual clout. Organizations like the Heritage Foundation emerged, and many positive economic changes resulted. Now, though, he says that the message has been reduced in many ways to “Obama bad” and “Democrats Marxist.”
He continued:
…you have nobody like Irving Kristol to go out there…to write and explain what this means, and explain how we are right, and how we have been right. How our philosophy is a governing philosophy of the future.
But that’s been stripped away by the anti-intellectualism of the past decade and the conservative cause…
[...]
These type of people who have the ability to make what [George W.] Bush called the ‘compassionate conservative’ argument [are] thrown to the side because they don’t sound enough like Glenn Beck, or a blogger.
When panelist Mike Barnicle asked whether there is enough “breathing room” between the “loudness and the shrillness” of both sides, Scarborough doubled down on his assertion that conservative talk radio needs to be put in its place:
What do you do do a school yard bully? You punch them in the face. You think any of these people in talk radio — if they’re punched in the face by a Republican nominee — do you think they would push back? No, they’re cowards. They’re bullies. Punch them in the face, and they back off. Bullies do that.
Mitt Romney, and we said it nonstop for two years, he would never stand up to these bullies. And so they framed his campaign and he got his tail whipped.
[...]
And we started saying this in 2010, when Glenn Beck said the president was a racist who hates all white people.
Watch the entire clip, in which the panelists proceed to defend Weekly Standard editor Bill Kristol against recent criticism on talk radio:

Posted on December 10, 2012 at 2:38pmMitt Romney lost for several reasons, not because of conservative talk shows. First his past voting record reflected his big government philosophy. He shunned off real conservatives and libertarians. The RNC even went as far to change the convention rules to stop the libertarians from having a say. To top that off, the Romney campaign let the democrats and their minions continually cut him down and he never stood up to them.
The fault is completely with the Romney campaign for a failed campaign strategy. Their ground game sucked and their messaging was all but there. They were relying on the “anyone but Obama” voter pull them through. The misleading commentary from the likes of Rove and company on the false republican polling data did not help either.

Posted on December 10, 2012 at 2:58pmAgreed–
Romney, or his incompetent campaign, chose to not hit Oblamer on Benghazi, the economy, his complete lack of character, all the laws Oblamer, & his cronies, chose to disregard or supercede.
Not enough offense, not enough defense.
They thought the polls assured them a win, & played it safe!
And, I believe he also might have helped his cause to take O’Reilly’s invite seriously. Lot of conservatives watching that show. Great opportunity to reach out to all those voters that eventually stayed home.
They just blew it!!

Posted on December 10, 2012 at 5:54pmJoe is absolutely right. When Republicans quote Limbaugh or Beck or Boortz as scholarly sources Republicans look angry, intolerant, and just plain uneducated. The sum total of most of the discourse on right-wing talk shows is, in fact; Obama bad, Democrats Marxist. When right-wing talkers with 50 thousand watts and millions of listeners repeatedly demonstrate they don’t know the meanings of words like Marxist, Socialist, Communist, tyrant, dictator and unconstitutional, when they repeatedly mock and stereotype minorities, single women and non-christians, well you can’t easily blame independents and moderates for painting all Republicans with the same broad brush. But ‘conservatives’ won’t give up their Rush, their Beck, their Fox News, their Michael Savage; it seems dogmatic, unchallenged bullying is too much fun to surrender to something as unimportant as, you know, winning elections. Dogmatism and anti-intellectualism drove me from the party after 25 years, but go on believing it was only me and not millions like me. Those missing 3 or 5 or 10 million Republican votes were just conservatives that stayed home, right? You keep telling yourself that if it makes you feel better, and keep purging the party of anyone who wants to win those voters back. That’s what Glenn and Rush would do. Keep following the advice of idiots that couldn’t finish college, close ranks, throw dissenters out. I’m sure that will get you the 70 million votes you’ll need to beat Hillar

I was referring to right wing talk. Here are a few from Limbaugh;
1. “Have you ever noticed how all composite pictures of wanted criminals resemble Jesse Jackson?”
2. “Look, let me put it to you this way: the NFL all too often looks like a game between the Bloods and the Crips without any weapons. There, I said it.”
3. “The NAACP should have riot rehearsal. They should get a liquor store and practice robberies.”
4. “They’re 12 percent of the population. Who the hell cares?”
5. [To an African American female caller]: “Take that bone out of your nose and call me back.”
6. Limbaugh even has repeatedly played a song on his radio show ‘Barack the Magic *****’ using an antiquated Jim Crow era term for African Americans
7. “We need segregated buses… This is Obama’s America.”
8. “Obama’s entire economic program is reparations.”
9. “I mean, let’s face it, we didn’t have slavery in this country for over 100 years because it was a bad thing. Quite the opposite: slavery built the South. I’m not saying we should bring it back; I’m just saying it had its merits. For one thing, the streets were safer after dark.”
11. “You know who deserves a posthumous Medal of Honor? James Earl Ray [the confessed assassin of Martin Luther King]. We miss you, James. Godspeed.”
12. “Let the unskilled jobs that take absolutely no knowledge whatsoever to do — let stupid and unskilled Mexicans do that work.”

How do you think the truth should be expressed? Nothing that Rush says is racist or sexist. It might sound that way if you take them out of context, or don’t pay attention, or if you are a racist yourself, but both he and Glenn, like Jesus, speak the truth. Just because the Repubs can’t find someone to do that so well doesn’t lessen the value of these truths. But then again Obama won on a campaign of lies ( how valuable was that?). Are you suggesting that Repubs do the same? The problem lies in the inherent incompatability of speaking the truths, expressed by Rush and Glenn, in a political process. Though the truth and politics are not necessarily mutually exclusive, it does take someone with better abilities than flip-flopper Romney to communicate these truths. He was the WRONG GUY FOR THE RIGHT MESSAGE! It was of utmost importance that the truth be expressed in a respectful manner and BO be exposed for the commie liar that he is and Romney was nothing but afraid to do that. It was Romney’s fear that lost the election AND our hope for an enlightened tomorrow.
Not dogma but SOUL.

This is war! It’s a war for the future of America. They know there some things they can’t do without the House like give the president power over raising the debt limit.
The truth is there is no Republican party. There is just one party. They are in it together. The Super Committee was about freezing out the TEA PARTY members and now Bohner is dumping more TEA PARTY members from financial committees.
This is also true of global issues. America is not standing against China,Russia,North Korea and so on.
They are all in it together to make us yield to ONE WORLD GOVERNMENT. That’s why Obama goes to the UN for authority on everything. If there is a economic collapse they will all act in unison.

Not to mention nasty Hollywood types who just LOVE our celebrity president. Put all that together with the fact that massive voter fraud occured and BINGO! you come up with an Obama win…..but only by 51% (I believe). So you now have an even MORE arrogant jerk for a president, and his voters will have to learn the hard way what happens when you are THAT stupid but by then we will all be paying the consequences for the stupidity. Bodybag is right. The GOP will have to learn (if they can) to fight as dirty as the Alinsky types without selling their souls because it CAN be done without becoming THEM. if they keep it up…it will come one day so enough…..so keep spouting off Joe….your punch might be already around the corner…

Posted on December 10, 2012 at 2:19pmIt’s this type of thinking that I called from day 1 as the reason Obama would get re-elected.
Joe’s a coward and too many like him make up our base.

Posted on December 10, 2012 at 3:30pmThe reason why Joe has more viewers then TheBlaze has readers is that THEY REPORT THE NEWS. I bet that Joe has never reported on Saturday Night Live or any of the meaningless, mindless dribble TheBlaze reports et noisia.

Posted on December 10, 2012 at 2:15pmIn the past four years, my tolerance for liberals has faded.
Liberals are mentally and emotionally unstable.
These idiots control nearly every media outlet and they still aren’t happy.
They won’t be happy until they control every aspect of our lives.

Posted on December 10, 2012 at 2:15pmHere we go from the leftists to demonize conservative talk radio and the internet. This is an effort to get Republicans mad over Romney’s defeat to turn on the conservative media and call for them to be silenced once and for all.
Watch for this pressure to mount beyond the intensity Obama has unleashed via Congress and the leftists MSM as never before.

Posted on December 10, 2012 at 2:15pmI agree with Joe. Every time I’d get close to considering Mitt, I’d listen to Beck or Rush or Hannity and be reminded of what a huge mistake that would be.

they act like they know what they are talking about.. he says we are irrelevant how is it that they were so scared of us? haha i think if we had better ways to track there movements and there actions and actually held them accountable and punished them for it. the tables would have been turned.. partly why i think mit just said screw it when he did was because its clear this country is broken..
