Is Santa Claus a Democrat or a Republican? These Poll Results May Surprise You

Is Santa Claus a Democrat — or a Republican?

While some would contend that his penchant for providing gifts and “spreading the wealth” (i.e. holiday cheer) indicates that he’s left-of-center, others might point to the fact that he provides gifts to the world’s children without government “investments” and is, thus, more conservative in nature. To get to the bottom of this not-so-pressing question, Public Opinion Polling asked Americans which political party they believe Santa belongs to.

Forty-four percent of respondents believe that he is a Democrat; on the flip side, 28 percent contend that Santa is a Republican. An additional 28 percent are not sure which political affiliation Santa would opt for. With that in mind, PPP also sought to poll other issues in its annual holiday poll. For example, with the fiscal cliff approaching, Americans aren’t only worried about the impact on their own wallets — they’re also fearing for Santa’s well being.

More than five in 10 respondents (54 percent) said that they worry that he won’t be able to give as much as he has in the past and that the cliff could force Santa to cut back on his benefits. Of course, the vast majority believe that they are on Santa’s “nice” list (80 percent), with only a small proportion admitting that they’ve probably earned themselves a spot on the “naughty” list (11 percent).

And what about crimes and moral infractions committed by Santa? PPP asked questions about those as well. Interestingly, Americans seem to have an oddly-strong devotion to the Christmas mascot. While 43 percent said they would tell their daddies if they saw their mothers kissing Santa, 40 percent claimed that they wouldn’t (and an additional 17 percent were conflicted).

If Santa’s reindeer ran grandma over, bizarrely, the vast majority would protect him, with a whopping 61 percent claiming that they would refrain from pressing charges (only 24 percent would seek legal ramifications for Santa and his sleigh). Interestingly, Democrats (33 percent) are more likely than Republicans (19 percent) to say that they would press charges.

As for the War on Christmas, despite a media narrative that it is non-existent, 47 percent of respondents believe that it exists, with 40 percent denying that it is happening. Read the full results here.

Think about it:

Santa builds his own stuff. Yes, Barry, he did build that. He didn’t grovel and ask for handouts and subsidies from the government.

Santa’s workshop is manned by volunteers. There are no unions representing the elves and they’re perfectly happy with that.

Santa willingly provides toys to children. He doesn’t lobby the government to have toys taken from rich children and given to poor ones.

Santa only gives toys to the good children. You want a toy from Santa-you better behave and earn it. Santa doesn’t give toys away because a kid ‘tried’ to be good or because it’s the ‘fair’ thing to do. Santa doesn’t buy into the whole concept of “equality” and “Redistribution of playthings”.

You act like a jerk all year-you get a lump of coal. For those not in the know, that’s Santa’s personal way of saying “F-You” to bad kids for not having personal responsibility. Santa doesn’t believe in being nice just because it might offend someone otherwise.

Santa is able to deliver toys to every good child in the entire world in one night. Think US postal service for a democrat supported alternative.

Santa doesn’t make promises then back out of them. When you sit on Santa’s lap and he asks what you want for Christmas, unlike Democrats, he doesn’t promise that you’ll get them only to disappoint you

Santa is a Democrat. He makes promises to my kids and then I have to to pony up the money to get them the gifts that he lets them think HE gave them. Then, if he does show up, he sneaks in my house at night while everybody is asleep and takes the cookies I baked for the kids. My kids are too young to be told that it’s taking money from their college fund when I’m spending hundreds of dollars per year on the latest game system and $60 on each of the popular games for it. Thanks for nothing, Santa!

  If he was a Democrat, he’d also take your money, and then leave you a stack of fines for violations of the heath code for leaving milk out unrefrigerated, safety violations for your tree and decorations, and a fine for not representing other religions in your home along side Christmas, so by the time he’s done, you’ll get one crappy gift and he’ll leave you with $10,000 in fines and violations. Individuals helping others directly is a Conservative activity…

Democrats only believe in Government helping others, so basically for Santa to be a Democrat he’d:

Be under strict worker rules and regulations
Must conform to government operational rules
Must deliver all gifts to the Central gift receiving office
Gov’t will take 20% of the gifts for “gov’t fees and costs”
Gov’t will take the best presents for its political elite
Gov’t will delay shipment of gifts and miss Christmas deadline because all gifts must be opened and inspected.
Gov’t will keep all gifts because it deems that delivering gifts is a violation of Separation of Church and State.

Christmas is canceled
Santa Clause & hist workshop is immediately closed down and fined.
20,000 elves are out of a job, the reindeer are confiscated by nature lovers and released into the wild to “set them free” – the domesticated reindeer die within several days not knowing how to live in the wild.
Santa’s workshop is foreclosured and sold at auction, all money goes to department of gifts to offset its costs.

The failure of the whole takeover of Santa and Christmas is blamed on the Repubicans.

If Santa Claus were a Democrat, his elves wouldn’t make toys. They’d loot them from rich kids and toy stores. If Santa were a Republican, he’d deport all the elves back to Middle Earth.

So Santa must be a libertarian.

How could he be a democrat? The government wants to stop him and make him immaterial. He does none of this with government approval. He doesn’t get government funds. His sleigh probably needs to be regulated. After all, if he is travelling over the entire world, he must be speeding and his carbon footprint must be huge. Above all, he is not paying any taxes and if he is providing presents to children with no payment, his wealth must be astronomical. He should be paying his fair share. Finally, the fact that he is guilty of breaking and entering to the tune of billions of households, he needs to be held accountable for his actions. That settles it. Santa belongs in prison and penniless.

He’s not a socialist. A socialist would give the same present to everyone then take the present from the rich person and give it to a poor person who already has two of them.

He was conservative.

First, the gifts are seen as charity. And looking at who donates more to charities, conservatives or democrats, that falls clearly with conservatives.

Second, he has a list where he keeps those who are nice (get gifts) and naughty (no gifts). That shows he values accountability, clearly a conservative trait and something democrats lack.

Third, he wears red. Red is commonly seen as the republican color of choice. Blue is more for democrats because it identifies them as the blue blooded elite (really, do we need to have yet one more Kennedy in goverment ever?).

My parents very early on corrected me when as a youngun I once said that the stuff from Santa was free. I was quickly told that they got a bill from Santa every year that they had to pay, and nothing was free. Too bad a lot of other parents did not tell their children the same.

  No, Obama wants to nationalize Santa’s operation and unionize all the elves. He’ll use the EPA to shut down the north pole and free Santa’s reindeer under the Animal Welfare Act. Meanwhile Michelle Obama and NYC’s Mayor Bloomberg will chide Santa for his belly and insist upon forcing government regulations upon Mrs. Santa’s kitchen recepies. You know, only the state can redistribute toys, not Santa.
