Shock Video: Alleged Union Activists Attack, Punch Conservative Outside Mich. Capitol

TheBlaze reported earlier that alleged union activists had attacked a tent owned by the pro-right-to-work group Americans for Prosperity.

Now we have more footage of not only the attack on the tent, but also of alleged union activists physically attacking conservative writer and comedian Steven Crowder:

“They were tearing down the tent,” Crowder explained when TheBlaze asked him about the moments leading up to the violent exchange. “Now that sort of becomes a melee. They were trying to tear down the [AFP] tent and people were trying to pull them off … there were people in there. It’s their property.”

“And as they [the union activists] did that, a few people tripped,” he continued, “this guy tripped over a tent peg and then got up and hit me.”

Following the altercation and the destruction of AFP’s tent, Crowder tweeted the following images:

“I never hit him at all. I know he tripped,” Crowder told TheBlaze in a phone interview. “And I know he was coming into me, so hands were everywhere.”

Crowder was actually at the protest to do some “man-on-the-street” interviews with union supporters.

“I went in there to ask them why they were against right-to-work and it immediately got violent. They immediately started tearing down the tent and they trampled it to the ground with women inside,” he said.

Speaking of which, here’s some footage taken by an AFP worker from inside the tent as it was being ripped apart:

“The union members went inside the tent to cut the ropes and knock down the poles that we’re holding the tent up,” Michael Moroney, Director of Communications at the Franklin Center for Government & Public Integrity, told TheBlaze in an email.

Ironically enough, according to Moroney, AFP was actually hosting pro-right-to-work union workers when the tent was brought down by protesters.

“Am I a bit of a smart aleck? Yeah,” said Crowder, “But does that warrant me being punched in the face and told they’ll ‘kill me with a gun’? I don’t think so.”

And you can clearly hear people shouting about guns in the video. TheBlaze asked Crowder, who is a staunch supporter of the 2nd amendment, whether he discussed with anyone in the crowd his support for the right to bear arms.

“No. I was not carrying a gun and never even broached the subject. They were not talking about me,” he responded.

Did the police at least try to break up the crowd?

“There was not one cop to be found,” Crowder told TheBlaze.

It’s important to note that the above video has been edited and that the moments leading up to the attacks on Mr. Crowder have been removed.

“I wanted to show the good stuff,” he said, adding that he wanted the keep the video to under two minutes. “Listen, if you want more context, there are dozens of videos taken by people with their cellphones. They’re about 45 minutes long. You can watch those.”

Now that these alleged union activists have been caught on camera, we’re left with one big question: Will Crowder press assault charges?

“I’m going to give this guy an ultimatum,” Crowder said, “he can either fess up and go to prison for a felony or we can meet at a racquetball court for five minutes and we can work out our differences ourselves. Jail or one-on-one. If he wants to play tough guy, I’m giving him the choice.”

In case you didn’t know, Crowder is schooled in both mixed martial arts and wrestling.

“Just to be clear,” TheBlaze said, “what do you mean by ‘one-on-one’?”

“I’m talking about lock us in a racquetball court for a whole sanctioned mixed martial arts bout, or boxing bout, or wrestling bout – whatever he wants,” said Crowder. “He can name the terms and I will face him one-on-one if he wants to avoid prison.”

“I am serious,” he added. “He can go to jail, or compete with me in a sanctioned bout for charity.”

UPDATE — Crowder appeared on Fox News’ “Hannity” Tuesday night to discuss his ordeal and to formally challenge the union activist who assaulted him [via Mediaite]:

  The 16 trillion dollar question is why in God’s name didn’t the conservative comedian defend himself? Enough of “behaving like gentlemen” because all that results from pansy behavior is an embarrasing asswhup. Take note people, when we’re at events that union goons show up at you better get ready to rumble. These communists know nothing but violence when they don’t get their way. I suggest that for those that don’t train, you had better start. Krav Maga is an excellent way to get into shape and to learn some self-defense tactics as well.

  This is great PR for all of us who know unions are a joke. Incompetence, intoxication, illegal behavior are all things that will get you fired in the private sector. In the union, you can’t get fired unless you commit capital murder – and even then, the murderer would likely file a grievance to get his job back, WITH BACK PAY ! It really is affirmative action for a protected class. Union members are held to lower standards than the rest of what remains of the U.S. workforce. Stories like this only help the right to work cause. LIVE BETTER… WORK !

  I have dealt with Local 98 in Philly!
  Did you know that if certain unions have a contract to build a building, and you (also a union) have a contract to install whatever (high-speed internet equipment, in this case) to each Condo, and THEY wired all Condo’s, that they still don’t even want you do the work YOU have a contract to do with your OWN equipment? That union, btw, didn’t even do the work we did.
  After I talked to their headquarters, we were ‘allowed’ to go in. But before we went in, the “big boss” told their shop steward to (in so many words) inform the ‘animals’ (my word) that we were to be left alone.
  Well, after we had been inside for a few minutes, the electric suddenly went out! SOMEhow, the temp electric feed got “acidentally” cut. Can you imagine? Work for the day was suspended.

  I own 4 firearms personally. But showing up to rally’s packing and looking for trouble is different than an intruder breaking in or something. This is a matter for law enforcement. And if that fat bozo would have swung at me like that I would have dropped him in a heartbeat. No patsy here. I just dont think many of the people that post about using a firearm against a human being realize how unpleasant it truly is. It’s not a game. It stays with you forever.

  The ones you see in the video get fat because they only work they do is behind a desk. 10 to 1 they aren’t rank-and-file and I’ll tell you why.
  
  Well, if you’re talking about the “bad actors” on the union side of this video, my guess is that these are either staffers, or officials of the unions. In my limited experience of dealing with unions activism (picket lines, demonstrations, etc.), after “wading in” to their group, and confronting them as to their specific positions, the rank-and-file guys and gals are generally civil and quite mannerly (if not a bit stunned by my precocious approach). On the other hand, the nastiest, most volatile members of the groups are folks that have either never been union workers (staffers), or were elected to their positions long ago and haven’t practiced their craft in decades.
  
  The best way to disarm the militants in the group is ask them why they got to the point of being on the street in the first place. When I’ve done this, the real workers turn around and stare at their leaders expectantly. In all cases leaders have been so surprised that they’ve never answered, but they received a lot of scowls from those they were supposed to represent. I’ve “evaporated” more than one demonstration in this fashion, but I wouldn’t want to do it to the same group twice. ;-)

  I’m from Flint Michigan moved to Texas in 09. Main reason unions and welfare. I have been a plumber for 20 years and have seen the harm of unions my hole life. I can’t tell you how many times I have had to pull off of jobs because of unions. Why because my company won a BID but was not union. They would protest tell the contactor gives in. Putting me and many other out of work. Why because they can’t compete with non union companys. From 1998 and on I have all ways made more then $20.00 a hour. All ways had INS for me and family. The unions don’t have to play by the same rules. They trick workers to vote them in and lie to the workers. Then the workers too the new union company wonder why the company goes out of buissness. Then there laid off and on the waiting list. Auto worker union UAW. How many of us can get caught doing coke and have the company pay for rehab then keep there job?
  I worked for two companys that went union. One gone the other only does only commercial work now. People could not pay the hourly rate. Not to mention the test are union apoved. Allot of the question don’t have anything to do with your trade. It took me 3 trys to pass Micigan test. Texas test was hard but was only plumbing questions I passed 92% first try. I was told by my dad back in the 80s all the way to 2001 how evil his union is GM 38 years God Rest Your Soul. I hope Rick Synder rips the unions apart I miss home so much. Texas is great but Michigan all ways be home. Be nice to go hom

  I unfortunately belong to a huge union and have received no raise (not even cola) for the last two contracts and see very little benefit. I just get to pay them $1200.00 a year for the right to work. Occasionally there is a need for someone to stand up for employee rights, but unions are just another branch of administration with thugs dealing out the consequences.

  There is an easy explanation why he didn’t fight back and chose to be submissive. He was running the risk of serious injury or death at the hands of the mob. A mob has no conscience and takes on the emotion of the most vocal and violent. Unions are trained in strike tactics and are like pack of wild dogs.
  
  I worked for Boise Cascade Paper in International Falls. We experienced the worst labor riot in Minnnesota history. My duty station was at the man camp for the non-union workers. A mob of about 2000 union workers stormed the camp, pushed over a chain link fence, turned over trailers used as living quarters and set fire to several trailers. Once inside, they turned vehicles over and kicked a security guard so hard in the testicles that doctors could not save them. The mob attacked the main office building but were held off by security guards and police.
  
  Prior to that my wife had been forced off the road because our car still had Pennsylvania plates and they thought we were scabs.
  
  The mob was made up of locals and union members from Minnesota, Michigan and Wisconsin. It took 53 buses to bring them to town.
  
  Crowder was lucky that only one man attacked him.

I was amused when Stu started reading an entry about it and it came out that it was actually showing the thuggery of Ford towards those trying to unionize. It was violent but not in the way that would help Glenn’s argument so he conveniently still talked about it as though it was Union violence. I love you Glenn and have listened for a long time, but your inconsistency lately is really making me question your reporting. It is as biased as the rest of the media. Want to get paid more for your labor? Make you product (labor) better than the other producers selling the same product in the market.

  Supposedly a federal court is going to review the UAW settlement in which Barry Soetoro did a complete hoodwink to the constitution and federal/state law to essentially shaft those with contracted ownership of the company (bond holders) in order to simply give it to the brownshirts.

  If you can carry, carry. These animals can and have killed people for little more than looking at them cross eyed. Their violence should never be taken as restrained and must always be treated as a threat on your life. Once enough of them go down after this kind of thing, their leaders may learn some restraint (though the thugs themselves won’t, being essentially mindless violence prone goons).
  
  Never go looking for a fight, but if somebody brings one to you, especially if that somebody is part of an organization known for killing its enemies, you don’t back down and you end the fight fast.

  Talk on a blog is fine but when you actually take a human life are you willing to be responsible to God for that action?
  As a believer of Salvation in Christ’s blood is why I no longer believe in the Union Movement since they are not a venue for “Peaceful” Civil demonstrations. Unions have done nothing but morph into Communistic movements and job killing because they have been so indoctrinated in hate against the “MAN”. Those inside the Union can not leave voluntarily either because they will come to your homes and harass you until you either quit your job and leave or relent to their harassment. And law enforcement is ineffective against them since they’re semi-protected by labor laws and lawyers.
  People have been murdered by protesters in past Union Strikes across the country.
  And if you’re a believer in Salvation in Jesus’ blood on Calvary being aligned with these organizations are you following God or Satan?

  @BAVA..I believe he was referencing the fact that the unions, panthers, socialists and anarchists are all sleeping in the same bed and have the same agenda. On a slightly different note, when watching the videos of thi went, really LOOK at the union members. Their demeanor, the language, the intimidation tactics…of course how can we forget the SIZE. Union work must be difficult these days at 84 bucks an hour. Back to the “it’s started” comment: if you think that this country is going to survive 4 more years of this evil man, forget it….Cleveland and Philly may have “WON” at the polling stations (ha)…I guarantee you that WE will win eventually…in the “field”.
